  1. From the Sagarin website: The SCHEDULE ratings represent what the rating would have to be for a hypothetical team to have a mathematical expectation of winning precisely 50% of their games against the schedule played by the team in question in the games that it has played so far. The schedule difficulty of each given game takes into account the rating of the opponent and the location of the game. This is the same concept that is used in computing the WIN50% conference ratings. In HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL the W-L records include ALL games, but ONLY games between the 327 TEAMS RATED here are used for RATING and SCHEDULE STRENGTH computations. Cathedral's only victory is to Chatard by 3 touchdowns, an IHSAA opponent. The remaining 4 games on the schedule will account for 50% of the schools out-of-state. According to Sagarin, Chatard with a 2-3 record apparently has the 3rd strongest schedule, to where one of their wins is to an out-of-state opponent and like Cathedral has 50% of the remaining schedule against out-of-state opponents. It looks like Chatard is carrying a lot of weight for the Sagarin system. And it's a mystery for the Dude, especially with out-of-state opponents and Cathedral on the schedule. 5-0 Roncalli sits at 7 overall with a 100% IHSAA schedule. They beat Chatard by two touchdowns. But the SOS is 19. Can someone on here explain to the Dude why Cathedral and Chatard is carrying so much SOS weight with out-of-state opponents on the schedule? Because according the to description above, out-of-state opponents don't account for the ratings. Also, how does Cathedral get such a high ranking with only one school to tie into the ratings system? It seems like there's a "base rating" for a school like Cathedral.
  2. Yeah, in the Dude's opinion, Calpreps at this point is probably a little more accurate. Comparing the two system what's interesting is the top 2 or 3 spots tend to be close, except in 2A. Six of one, half dozen of the other.
  3. Yeah, it looks like Chatard's schedule is the driving force for Cathedral's SOS. The Dude was just curious to know how only 1 school would impact that type of ranking. It appears to be a major flaw with the system itself. The Dude abides. Especially when a ping-pong ultimately determines the essential path to Thanksgiving weekend. The Dude is just trying to understand the logic/math/science/equation behind it. If that makes any sense. In the Dude's opinion, Cathedral's schedule points out the inconsistency of the equation. Folks tend to believe that this week - where all schools tend to be tied together within the equation - is what makes the Sagarin system pretty efficient. But a data point that only has one mean of measure halfway through the data load is far from efficient. Not to mention only a 1/3 of the data load will determine the outcome of that data point. Does that make any since? Or is the Dude over thinking this and not fully understanding the explanation Sagarin provides on his website?

Yeah the Dude put out-of-state opponents (two shut outs and a blow out) into account regarding the Evansville schools and any one of the top 7 could easily win against each other on any given Friday night. Also, both Columbus schools really haven't faced the same caliber as the Evansville schools, yet. East Central's SOS is lights out at this point and when it's all said and done they might be playing for the hardware Thanksgiving weekend. Floyd Central will have a chance to move up. The Dude wasn't really sure on where to place them because of the Madison game/score. Memorial has caught the Dude's eye and they've got a shot to take down #1 this weekend.

The front five have to get better. Otherwise it's going to be a long season. Without a running game typically means you lose by three or four touchdowns against teams like OSU. (More like four or five touchdowns if the Dude's being honest. IU's D played fantastic for 2.75 quarters! The big plays were essentially the gut punch that sucked the air out of them.) Ramsey in the game seemed to balance the offense and force OSU's D to play against the run. The Dude wasn't sure why they didn't bring him in more, especially in the 2nd half. Bringing him in the first half created some match up issues or at least that what it looked like to me. The Dude could be wrong though. In the second half OSU's D just pinned their ears back and said, 'I dare you to run the football because here's our pass defense and we're set up and ready to defend your passing game.' Lagow played his heart out but this team won't win games without a running game, and Ramsey in the game helped the running game last night. He's no starter but a nice complement to the offense that needs to add a wrinkle to defenses like OSU. Westbrook on special teams, fail. Last year he averaged 4.5 catches a game. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Dude knows he played on special teams last etc. etc. but that was last year. Cobbs at 1 and Westbrook at 2 with a breakout TE that snagged some really impressive catches creates a mess for most of IUFB's opponents. IUFB heads to Charlottesville, VA next week! Give 'em hell!
  19. 2017 Hoosiers

You owe the Dude a buck. Not sorry. If you don't pay up than there's no guessing about it.
  20. 2017 Hoosiers

Gift cards to email addresses will work. Still waiting. Or are you going to coward out of it?
  21. 2017 Hoosiers

Not asking for your mailing address. You can easily make this bet via other means. With all do respect, put up or shut up.
  22. 2017 Hoosiers

Ok, you're on. Send the Dude a PM for the logistics to finalize this bet.
