  1. FOOTBALL The Kingsmen go from having five conference games in 2023 to having seven next season in 2024. Penn is dropping Hammond Morton and Cathedral from next year’s schedule, and canceling the Carmel series that was scheduled to start in 2025. Penn will be adding South Bend Riley and South Bend Washington to its schedule next season. “We’re happy that we’re able to keep our rivalries with Valparaiso and Mishawaka weeks one and two, and we look forward to new challenges in the NIC,” Football Head Coach Cory Yeoman said. This is why they need a whole new mindset in the football program from admin through the coaching staff, if they both agree on this kind of schedule annually. They will play only one 6A school (Elkhart) every year now unless they leave the NIC or drop those traditional rivals of 5A Mishawaka & Valpo, which do nothing to show them the play speed and player strength of the HCC, MIC, Carmel & CG. How sad....."new challenges"
  2. How and where are you getting a monthly or annual subscription to all streams of IHSAA TV? I know NFHS Network offers monthly subscriptions for live and on demand.
  3. Penn still has over 800 kid classes and plenty of Rocket football players pouring into the feeder schools. Their parents, fans, faculty & administration still live off of the state championship caliber teams that Geesman had annually from late 70s to his retirement in 2002. They still think that Penn is on that level sadly. Those teams always overperformed and outcoached more talented teams to win those championships. Dont get me wrong, they had a few D1 kids on some of those teams but it was a system and a belief of success in that system (The Penn Way)that the kids bought into. The kids just arent buying/believing(take your pick) into the coaching philosophy from the current coaching staff who mostly played here under Geesman. Penn has not won a state championship in 22 years. People on here think it will never happen again because the 6A suburban Indy schools now go north in the tourney but Penn always had to go through Carmel and Ben Davis at some point. Geesman finally realized he had to upgrade the schedule and went out of state and scheduled Ben Davis in reg season so they could see the speed of the game difference from NIC to late round playoff competition. It paid off with competive games and state championships. Yeoman has tried that schedule upgrade formula. Penn even has more openings now than that 1 game vs Ben Davis or St. Ignatius thanks to the split divisions in the NIC. This should help the program catch up again to the 6A elite but the program just hasnt reponded to it like it did in the mid 90s. That Penn mystique when they hit the field and dominate your opponent confidence is gone now. Losing to 3A and 4A teams will do that to a HS kid's confidence wondering "how do we compete against the Indy schools"? Penn haters are loving this era and rightfully so. A program facelift needed. Baby steps are needed. 1st,Dominate in the NIC again. 2nd,Beat Duneland schools again. 3rd, Be competetive against 6A. 4th and finally, maybe compete for state. That is a long road to travel with a coach who is 60 now. Time will tell if "The Gold Rush" and "Wild Bunch" are just old glory day memories of years gone by.....
  4. What are you talking about? The Granger Rocket Football League(https://rocketfootballandcheer.com/registration) is one of the oldest and largest youth leagues in the state. They start registrations for next fall in a few weeks. They have done nothing but grow and expand since it started out for only the Penn School District students to currently taking kids from all over the Michiana area. NUMBERS of football players are not the problem at Penn. BTW...Mishawaka does not even offer bus transportation for it's own students, let alone bus other kids in..LOL. It is one, if not the only school district in the state that doesnt provide transportation for it's students.
  5. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/preps/football/year-by-year-rankings.htm These are the USA Today High School Top 25 Final Polls starting in 1982 thru 2005. The 2001 Ben Davis team is the highest ranked Indiana school in their polls.
  6. Im almost always in agreement with your opinions on Penn but the kids going across the stateline, which they are, is not causing what is happening at Penn. Edwardsburg won Div 4 state in 2018. They lost in Div 3 regionals in 2019 and in Div 4 semifinals in 2020 and neither opponent went on to win state. One of the Eddies' best returning RB this year "migrated" back across the stateline to Elkhart this year and was hoping for a monster year but got injured. So, i dont think this senior class at Penn (which will average 5 losses their soph thru senior years) was from some kids going up to Edwardsburg. With the loss to NP, this will be Penn's first losing season since the year before Geesman got here(winless in 1972). This Penn senior class is still way over 800 kids unless "they have left the nest in droves". There are still plenty of "Gold Rush" and "Wild Bunch" kids walking the hallways. Maybe not D1 kids, but Penn never has had them to rely on throughout the Geesman/Yeoman era. They have almost always overperformed against more talented teams to win those championships. The kids just arent buying/believing(take your pick) into the coaching philosophy that we followed and saw daily that produced championships. Penn has not won a state championship in 21 years. My 5 kids have only known the "Penn" way to win on the field at a state level from Dad talking about it and watching his VCR tapes from the 80s and 90s.
  7. Final Marian 20 Penn 16 First time since 1985 that Penn has two conference losses.
