Several hot topics that are currently flying below the radar:

* Kokomo is smoking red hot after demolishing a pretty good Richmond team this week. I think this team is ready to finally make a move in the post season. Brett Colby has set a consistent standard and expectations now have moved beyond just an NCC championship. Kokomo is a legit threat to make it through the north draw.

* Wonder if Decatur Central is having second thoughts about running off Coach Tim Able. Able has New Pal on a roll, as the Dragons drilled Greenfield Central tonight and are building a full head of steam heading into the post season. What has DC done this year in the first season post Able?

* Bill Melby at Lake Central and Wally McCormack at Hobart, both at 1-7, are catching an earful from dissatisfied fans and supporters up in The Region. Melby is likely out but Wally will probably survive as the Brickies lost a boatload of talented offensive kids from a year ago. Still, 1-7 is very un Hobart like.

* Greenwood beat Franklin in the Toilet Bowl this week as both schools were looking to avoid the Mid State Conference cellar. Franklin is just awful. What was Brian Harbin thinking when he left Franklin Central for Franklin Community? Maybe he thought he was going to Franklin County and got his signals crossed.

* Just when Avon gets on a nice roll, they go up to McCutcheon and lay an egg? This one surprised me.

* Got a feeling that Trent Grider is going to become the next head coach of my Highland Trojans. His freshman son saw some action at QB this week in a 39-8 loss to Kankakee Valley. Is this reason for me to be concerned about the future direction of my alma mater?

* I am very concerned about IU following today's beatdown against the Virginia Cavaliers. Indiana college football took a black eye today, thanks to the Hoosiers and Boilers putting on pathetic performaces on the road. UVA must be laughing at us tonight. Very disturbing. I like Ben Chappell but he is not getting the job done for IU. Time to give someone else a chance.

* Speaking of Purdue, Boiler fans have got to be wondering just what they've got in Danny Hope. Sure, the cupboard is barren in Lafayette when it comes to talent, but this team leads the nation in turnovers and points against off of turnovers. Fundamentals and discipline appear to be in short supply. Joe Tiller rode his donkey out of town just in time.

* I am pulling for the Wheeler Bearcats to finally breakthru and make a deep run in the 2A tournament this season. Wheeler just destroys everybody they play, but gets no respect due to recent early tournament losses. Maybe this will be the year of the Cat-Kat, with both Wheeler and Kokomo giving the northern draw something to shout about.

* If the tournament started today, LCC (1A) Ritter (2A), Chatard (3A) and Cathedral (4A) would be odds on favorites to win their respective state tournaments. Does this give any of you who support the theory of competitive balance any reason for concern?

* I expect Warren Central to begin their state title run with a solid win over Center Grove this week. Hart needs a state championship to validate his existence on the east side - nothing less will satisfy the Warrior Army.

DT, great to see you have Kokomo leading off your Dandy Dozen! They are really playing some outstanding football, both sides of the ball. Coach Colby has done just an outstanding job with the team since Day 1 and definitely this year. Kokomo is lucky to have him!

I'm glad to see you gave Kokomo a little love, but beware, I'm sure a certain Carmel fan will rip you for saying anything positive about the WildKats!

I've not heard anything, and from personal observation I can say that Highland is a very different team now than it has been for the last several years. It hasn't shown up in the record yet, but Ken Bye has done a very nice job of beginning the process of changing the culture there. After all, going back to 2002 they are 22-52, not counting this season. You can't change that culture overnight. But Ken Bye is no Spring chicken, and I have heard there are some health issues involved. So he has the Trojans on the right track, but he may not be the one to finish the job. However, he's clearly made a good start.

I also believe that Kokomo may be a force in the playoffs this year. Although their competition isn't the best, they are blowing them out of the water each week without fail. It'll be interesting to see how they match up with Snider in sectional 3.

OverUnder sounds like he may be an assistant coach who is looking to complete a stealth scouting report on the WildKats.

Don't give up all your secrets. Center Grove could meet Kokomo for the 5A championship.

The issues of a lack of fundamentals and unchecked attitudes have been on display since Purdues spring game brawl.

I have the feeling that not even a state title will keep Harts job at WC. Good news for him is that he shouldn't have to look to longf for his next one.

Purdue is very down this year as far as talent goes, but these turnovers are not because of that, they are because of lack of concentration and just plain being dumb. Lots of fumbles off of punt returns, shanked punts (Summers yesterday), blocked field goals returned for TDs, and Elliot is good for at least one or two picks a game. Some guys have not learned their lesson and still carry the football around like it is a sack of potatoes. This in my mind is just plain ineptitude. Hope continues to make very questionable decisions on a weekly basis. How much of the team's unpreparedness and constant fumbling should be on him? I'm thinking a 30 point loss is coming next week vs. Ohio State, and hopefully Hope gets some new guys in there.
