Tech in the MIC? Why are they still trying to get in the MIC?

Why is the IPS superintendent still delusional about Tech joining the MIC? The lower end of the MIC (TH schools) still offer WAY more than Tech. Is there a chance that any IPS school would EVER join anything other than there own conference?

Why would they want to stay? What good does it do them?
And the thing that you can't argue with is that he acknowledges that the program isn't there yet. I don't think he's being delusional yet, he just set a goal... a lofty one, but personally I'd rather aim high and come up short than be content with mediocricy(sp?) if that makes any sense. Delusional would be saying "we're good enough to hang with The Big Four," or "we'll be there in a matter of 3 years," or something like that. Who knows, he may not make the MIC but some other conference may pick them up if they keep improving.

That said, I don't think they will ever be competitive in the football side of things in the MIC, and I can't imagine some of the other sports working for them as well.
However, there is a scenario I see working. Pike wants into the MIC. At that point, the conference will need another school to balance out scheduling. That opens up the door.

I've heard secondhand that IPS is also trying to funnel the athletes in the corporation to Tech to create an athletic powerhouse, and boost enrollment to 4000+. The fruits seem to be working -- they've already got a stud "move-in" from Decatur Central for basketball who already has an offer from IU as a frosh. If Tech has 4,000 kids and all of the athletes, and most other IPS schools are 2A/3A-sized, then it makes no sense to keep Tech in the IPSAC. Not only that, but there are only five football-playing IPS schools now.
If I were the MIC, and Pike wanted in, Lawrence Central would be the most logical 10th team to add. If not them, then maybe possibly Tech.
Tech might be a good fit in Conference Indiana, which is a pretty good league in its own right (and the home of six state basketball championships since 1997).

I was kinda thinking the same thing. Pike and LC would leave great openings for Tech and maybe one other school to jump in there. The question is who.

If the Bar-Cons school board would allow it, Columbus East is the most obvious choice/fit, but they don't want North & East in the same league.
Decatur Central had they not left for the Mid-State, Plainfield in the Mid-State (rapidly-growing).
If they'd invite a private school, Roncalli/Cathedral would be good competitive fits in most sports.
Shelbyville & Greenfield-Central has a history with Conference Indiana's two predecessor leagues, but they both seem happy and fit pretty well competitively in the HHC. They'd also be on the small side enrollment-wise in Conference Indiana (but are two of the largest schools enrollment-wise in the HHC).
Connersville is a bit of a haul from Indy (and especially Bloomington), but they're basically conference-less right now.

Makes an already-hostile rivalry more hostile, and I guess, provides some distinction between the two schools.
A similar setup existed in Anderson & Kokomo (back when both towns had multiple schools) and exists in Muncie, but that more has to do with an NCC rule allowing only one school per community.
Tech was a member of the NCC back in the day. That might not be a bad league to explore entering.

I think you need to recheck on that ... I'm pretty sure Eugene White screwed that up... they moved the Super Bowl Practice facilities in late April my understanding was due to greed in the IPS administration... but again I would fact check...

Tech basketball also has another "transfer" student from Traders Point who is ranked #4 in the nation for the class of 2014.
If the Tech football program can attract the same caliber athletes as the basketball program ..... watch out.
