  1. To me the easy fix (that shouldn’t have to wait until next year) if a team goes go by 35+ run the clock and if a team cuts it to under 35 start stopping it again. That way the 2/100 that is possible can still happen.
  2. Stars lose 41-7 but win the second half 7-0 (silver lining)
  3. Exactly...and with this young team having Jennings & Madison back to back at home then at Seymour they can gain some confidence and be alright. I have all the faith in the world in Weber and his staff. North’s QB is fantastic he went to the Peyton Manning QB camp this summer. The North RB Xavier Trueblood is quite the player too. Scott Bless has a good team this year. They aren’t 41-7 better than the Stars though.
  4. Wheels have fallen off in Bloomington Stars trail at half 41-0
  5. North 13 BNL after 1 Stars just can’t seem to generate any offense They will keep plugging away and improving there.
  6. Bedford North Lawrence (0-1) at Bloomington North (1-0) Brown County (1-0) at Jennings County (0-1) Columbus North (0-1) at Columbus East (1-0) Floyd Central (0-1) at Providence (1-0) New Albany (1-0) at Castle (0-1) Seymour (1-0) at Jeffersonville (0-1)
  7. I wanted to share a positive story about how a BNL senior has responded to a set back. The article below is about one of our seniors this year who had his season end prematurely with a knee injury. It was written by Jeff Bartlett and was in today’s edition of the Times Mail in Bedford. BEDFORD — Two weeks ago to the day, Reagan Bowman was enjoying one of his brightest days as a football player. The Bedford North Lawrence senior had just been voted a team captain for his final season, and it was an honor he cherished. Then, just an hour or so later, it turned into one of the darkest days a player can endure. Bowman had waited patiently for three seasons behind Class 5A All-State center Roman Weber, biding his time until his day came to become the starting snapper in the triple-option offense. That day arrived. Bowman was poised to start the next night’s scrimmage against Mitchell, fulfilling a boyhood dream. Then away it went. In a flash of tearing flesh, a season was finished. On that same Thursday when he’d been named captain Bowman suffered a high-school-career-ending injury in practice. It occurred on a routine play when a defensive lineman fell into the side of his leg and a loud pop was heard. It was a severed MCL that pulled away from the tibia and fibula below his right knee. He will not play a single down of his senior season. He missed the Mitchell scrimmage, and last Friday when the Stars journeyed to Martinsville, Bowman was under the knife on an operating table. When BNL travels to face Bloomington North Friday night in Game 2 of the 2019 season, Bowman will be on the sideline, if he’s even allowed to travel with the team. Dark days? For most people, yes. For this young man, not a chance. That’s because Bowman is a beacon of light wherever he goes and in whatever he does. He is simply a fine young man. Many will remember that this summer he helped save the life of a Bedford man who had suffered a heart attack. Bowman was present when it occurred, and he instinctively and rapidly went for help, and emergency personnel were able to save the man’s life. Reagan is also devoutly religious — his father, Greg, is a former pastor — and he is trusting that God has a plan with this injury. Then, there’s also the factor that he is still a team captain, and he is not going to allow himself to be down because he does not want his team to be down. “I got angry at the very first and I couldn’t understand why me and why now?” Bowman conceded. “But He knows a lot more than I do and I know He has a reason for this to happen, so I never really got down about it. “Things happen for a reason, and if I’m down about it it isn’t going to change anything and it isn’t going to help anything. I want to stay positive for my team. I got voted team captain, so everybody sees something in me, and me being down is not what they want to see.” It’s a remarkably mature attitude for an 18-year old, and it is not lost on BNL Head Coach Steve Weber. “Reagan is an outstanding young man, and there’s a reason he was voted in as a captain,” Weber said. “I just hate it for him because he had worked extremely hard for his senior year and had waited on his chance. He was doing a great job at center, and then this happens, and it’s a pretty serious injury. “But he has never complained or been negative about anything. Until his surgery he was still coming to practice every day and was very encouraging and supportive of his teammates. I think that tells you a great deal about his character.” Bowman started rehabbing his knee Tuesday, but doctors told him he’s looking at three to four months of recovery. Yet, he’s determined to do all he can to help the Stars. “Not being able to play makes you realize just how much football means to you,” said Bowman, whose hopes to play college ball and then one day become a high school guidance counselor. “But I’m still on the team. I did everything that everybody else did in the offseason, so I’m going to be down there with them. “I may not be able to play, but I can still do some things to help. I’ve got to be the best cheerleader I can be and try to help keep my teammates up and keep them positive when things get tough. “It’s not ideal, but it’s the situation I’ve been handed, and I’m going to make the best of it that I can.”
  8. Bedford Stonecutters was great before consolidating into the BNL Stars. Shawswick Farmers also consolidated into BNL as did the Needmore Hilltoppers Bedford & Shawswick Middle Schools still carry on those nicknames as does Needmore Elementary
  9. That is my understanding of it as well...didn’t happen last night though the clock never stopped.
  10. I understand to intent of the rule but I believe at every score, flag , official discussion the clock should stop. I addition, if the opposing team cuts it’s under 35 go back to stopping the clock. And even understanding the intent of the rule it’s still a miserable rule.
  11. I’ll miss @Fkfootball after they play East this year. I always enjoy his opinion on this thread.
  12. Absolutely we will Good win tonight for you guys. So much respect for Gaddis and the East program over here in Bedford. We are headed in the absolute right direction over here. 36 Freshmen out and the 8th grade class is loaded too. Weber knows how to build a program.
  13. Stars lose 40-7 This team is young and not deep and has already had some injury issues that they are battling before the season even started. 3 turnovers and some busted coverage on three big TD plays by the Artesians Bloomington North next week Then Jennings County & Madison back to back which by then should afford them some time to jell. Coach Weber & company will keep working hard.
  14. Weber is building a program, Szabo tried to but the community didn’t let him. They have allowed Weber to be the strength and conditioning coach (weightlifting) Szabo wasn’t given that opportunity. They have now (after years go fighting to get it) gotten one middle school team and it’s already paying off. Well over 30 Freshmen out this year. BNL has been blessed to have two incredible coaches and better men to run the program.
  15. I do understand that...like every season though the Stars got outplayed and didn’t look sharp, same as last year and the year before that. Seems like it always works out though Weber has them ready.
  16. I’ll be in Bedford tonight They scrimmage Mitchell outside of gate revenue for two county teams I’m not sure how much BNL gets out of it but at least the boys get to him non-teammates.
  17. Good to read both of these comments. I know all of us (particularly parents) get upset at calls and I’m guilty of it myself but I have always had a hard time believing that on any level (high school and lower) that an official has it out for a program or a kid. In fact I don’t know single official that would say you know what I’m going to screw over team “A” in this JV game on a Saturday morning or Varsity Game on a Friday night. Obviously mistakes are made and calls are missed but the homer intentional thing is very very few and far between. Communication is absolutely what is necessary and good to read this.
  18. 2019 Predictions 1. East is head & shoulders above everyone else, last year a few teams missed their chances. I think they will surprise some 6A teams come sectional time. Gaddis always has his kids playing at peak performance come sectional time 2. Weber is starting to build a solid program at BNL. Not extremely deep this season with a small junior class but has 19 seniors and the sophomore & freshman classes both look good. 3. BNL, FC, New Albany & Jeffersonville hopefully all think they can win a sectional title this year and that’s good for the competitive balance of the conference. 4. Seymour will continue to improve 5. JC & Madison will continue to struggle 6. Some FC fan in forum land will have himself convinced they are one of the top teams in southern Indiana. 😃 Truthfully I have a lot of fun in this thread this time of year and expect this year will be the same. Enjoyed meeting a few of you last season and hope to connect again this fall. Best of luck to every team in the HHC this season.
  19. Last year was the year to topple East. Both NA & BNL had decent shots at it but fell short. I think the programs are coached well enough but just aren’t enough kids dedicated to working hard enough to beat East.
  20. Agreed but the B1G is not SEC or the ACC Good to see Michigan knock of the number one seed UCLA though
  21. If the young man has a chance to go to Vandy you sure couldn’t blame him for that. None better than Corbin in developing pitching. What about Mississippi State where Lemonis went who he had committed to at IU?
  22. Saw that yesterday Congratulations and good luck next week. I just wouldn’t feel right about pointing out the one or the few losses East has this season was to BNL 😂
  23. Where did the former coach go? After reading the article in The NY Times last year and his interview on Fox News I had much respect for him.
