  1. 40-Second Play Clock

If I am not mistaken, we were told with the implementation of the 40 second play clock to have the ball spotted within 8-12 seconds of the play clock starting. I feel like eight seconds is plenty of time for hurry up offenses. The only thing that got in the way sometimes was when you had a slow box. The umpire is supposed to stay over the ball until we have the box. If you have a long run and an slow person on the box, that is what can get in the way... But I am with most officials.... Keep the 40
  2. Rating question

We noticed ours as well. We went back to it and clicked on Crew Summary. Is that the full coaches vote though, because you are right. We never had access to the score this early in the process.
  3. We do have a mechanism to run the clock.
  4. I sell the idea of officiating to my students. I tell them to get started in college at the intramural level and if they enjoy it enough, they should get their license.
  5. I feel like I remember seeing 137 crews applied though or were eligible. Nevermind...I found our ratings from the year before and saw there were 160 crews who received a rating.
  6. Last year though, I do recall there only being 6-9 crews who did not get a game. I don't know if that accounted for the teams who had a week off.
  7. 7 Man Crews in the Playoffs?

I haven't gone back to look, so I do not know if this has been discussed, but if we go to 7 man crew in the regional and beyond; could the IHSAA not say: "Here are six guys from your association who are eligible for Regional, Semi State, State, choose two guys" Most people have worked with others from within their association at lower level games. That seems like a logical step.
  8. Switching footballs for PAT

We have started to see more teams asking to change a ball after a score. We have stuck to the rule. I will say this, we normally do allow them to change balls if it was a score off a turnover if they ask.
  9. Safety? Touchback? Something else?

Someone gets the IFOA C Leather Play of the Day too! haha... That one had me confused too.... The backward pass is not considered a new force
  10. Not sure if anyone knows, but why did Coach Schenk make the move to North Posey?
  11. First Touching

We had this come up at our association meeting. Had a lengthy discussion on it... K performs an onside kick. K1 touches the ball at the K 48 yard line. R1 picks up the kick and returns it to the K 40 where he is tackled and fumbles the ball and it is recovered by K2 at the K 39. While R1 is in possession of the ball, R2 spears K3 at the K 46. What is the call?
  12. DB Faceguarding

We have called it in the past and it was basically the defender not turning to make a play on the ball.
  13. 2017 MSC-PLAC

It would add to our conference to make up for a team that does not have football. Give us six conference games as opposed to five.
  14. End of game scenario

We asked someone in our association afterwards: He said it is a live ball foul, but would be enforced as a dead ball foul. We just discussed if the players stopped at the cannon fire, I said no, and we ended the game. It is an incredibly loud cannon too. Luckily we were on the other side of the field.
  15. End of game scenario

Let me set the scene: Team A is the away team Team A is down 5 with four seconds remaining. Ball is at the Team B 40. Team A launches a pass towards the end zone. While the ball is in the air, time expires. When time expires, Team B fires their cannon. Team B intercepts the ball in the end zone. What is the call?
