  1. Penn/Carmel

Not that it matters, but Lowell's record this decade against teams from the NIC is 1-4...that's including last week's win. By "per usual", you must mean once in the last decade...Not that I care. Back to the game at hand...for those closer to the program, what has been the key ingredient in Penn's vast improvement throughout the season. As with any well-coached team, they always show a lot of improvement throughout the year, but it seems like something really clicked for their offense after the Merrillville game.
  2. Lake Central and Merrillville's struggles are surprising. I think both have dealt with significant injuries, but the results are hard to believe. Not just losing, but getting blown out in some of these games. Hopefully they both can turn it around in the next couple of years.
  3. NIC Week # 7

Love seeing Riley's program on the upswing. That should be a good game with the Jimmies.
  4. Ryle has a solid program, probably top 15 in Kentucky 6A. Their QB from a year ago went to Western Michigan, so they rely heavily on the run this year, with a pretty good back in Chisholm. They got destroyed by Covington Catholic in their first game, but have faired better since then. I would expect Cathedral to handle them pretty well, but it should be a fun game to watch.
  5. 6A Championship Game

Carmel's defense was extremely impressive! What a great game.

You've got to think, if Nick Zachery couldn't win it (if for no other reason, a "lifetime achievement" award), its just probably never going to happen for a 1A player.

Whenever I think of a game that seems to be an absolute forgone conclusion, and think "is there any possible way this team could win?"...that game is always the one I think of. Probably the single most shocking result that I have ever seen in high school football.

North Miami (7-0) at Peru (6-1 3A) This has to be one of the most-anticipated games in recent history in Miami County. North Miami had their strong run in the early/mid 90's, and each team has had an occasional solid season here or there. But for a number of years, a game of this magnitude, between these 2 teams, would have been a pipe dream. For one, they didn't play each other, but also due to both programs struggling for awhile. I love to see these schools succeeding, and imagine it will be an outstanding atmosphere in Peru!
