It's very obvious that you guys are from the North seeing how All but 1 of these teams (castle) are north of I 70. Here's a few teams from the south that will deserve some credit.

Terre Haute North - Wont have to compete with the mega schools this year

Decatur Central - One of the largest 5A schools

Martinsville - Senior QB back & prime time 25 player list

Whiteland - Darrin Fisher always has his teams ready to play

& you never know what the Bloomington Schools will bring especially with Moriarty back at South.

Sorry forgot about Whiteland as I am still getting used to who is in the new classes. I would put them in the top 6.

Terre Haute lost a lot from last year and  Moriarty will need a couple years at South before they are back to a top 10 program.

I'm thinkin Mishawaka will have to find an ample replacement for Schrader b4 any talk of challenging Snider. Schrader was a phenomenal athlete for that offense and i'm sure will be tough to replace.

3. Zionsville

4. Castle

5. Martinsville

6. Mishawaka

7. Whiteland

8. FW north

9. Decatur Central

10.TH North

Concord, SB Adams, Westfield, Kokomo, Evansville North, Bloomington North, TH South, Floyd Central, BNL and McCutcheon.

Floyd Central may crack the top 10 at some point.

Cathedral could lose 2 or 3 regular season games (Warren or Ben Davis, Trinity KY or Moeller or St. Xavier). That will cause them to move down the poll.

Zionsville could also lose 2 or 3 games (Hamilton or Fishers, Brownsburg or Avon). That would cause them to move down.

FW Snider could lose 1 or 2 games (FW Luers, Penn or FW North). Same.

Castle only have 2 or 3 Games they could lose (Mater Dei, TH North or New Albany or Evan. North).

TH North is in Conference Indiana this year and should do better then being in the MIC. If they can beat Castle, could end up higher in this poll. But if they lose to Castle and struggle in CI (lose 1 or 2 games), could fall out of the top 10.

Martinsville could lose 1 maybe 2 (Guerin, Roncalli or DC).

The next 5 teams are in the same boat. Some could go up, some down.

Concord, SB Adams, Westfield, Kokomo, Evansville North, Bloomington North, TH South, Floyd Central, BNL, McCutcheon and Elkheart Central.  Could all make moves by the end of the season. Some into the top 10 and maybe even the top 5.

Last year Cathedral was ranked 7th in AP poll and 3rd in Coaches poll and won the state championship.

Mishawaka was unranked in both AP and Coaches polls and was state runner up.

Columbus East was 1st and Jasper was 2nd in both polls. East lost in the semi state and Jasper lost in sectional finals.

So you are correct, polls dont really matter. But until football gets here it gives us something to do :)

Agree - Mishawaka has a lot to replace, and will be hard pressed to come close to matching last year's success.  They had some great leaders in last year's class.

As of now I would expect SB Adams to win Sectional 9.

I am hearing good things going on at S.B. Adams. Still think Mishawaka maybe a little better but it makes for a strong sectional.

So glad Concord is in Sectional 10 and not Sectional 9.

Trevor Wilmore is his name. Started last half of the season last year. I hear he and the Glanders kid are getting a lot of looks from colleges.

Don't take a lot of stock in Sagarin rankings. I will be shocked/surprised if Snider is not playing either Mishawaka, Concord, or Adams in the north semi-state. Adams may have the best player in 5A outside of the McLaurin in Shaq Vann. Mishawaka does not need GREAT players (there is a reason Navy can beat Notre Dame). And my sources tell me that Concord has a faster more athletic team than last year.

Probably shouldn't have started this thread. I agree that polls are a joke. The best ten teams could all be in sectionals 13-16, but only one of them can play at LOS. Cathedral could be 5-4/4-5 again and they are still the class of 5A.

Was just trying to get some conversation started about 5A football and it seems to have worked.

5a last year will be much like 5a this year, in that there will be several teams in the southern half that will be formidable contenders for a state championship. It's logical for me to believe that those teams surrounding Indianapolis teams would still be considered favorites, or even goliaths. For cathedral, even though they just moved up from 4a, I think they fit this description. Even the same for Zionsville.

Snider has to be considered the favorite in the north. They have been a well coached and fueled program for a long long time in 5a. They are the defending 5a runners up. They don't have to deal with those teams that are now in 6a, which stopped snider every year for the past 10+ years in the playoffs.

Watch out for Munster in sectional 9...they are just about due. All this Adams and Mishawaka talk had me thinking about Munster...who will sneak up on someone in that sectional.

Having watched Terre Haute North compete in the MIC for a few years, you can bet that Chris Barrett will have his team ready to go.
