A&M in pursuit of Penn State's Franklin?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone leave happy valley for college station?

I think it’s a lateral move. If you are Coach Franklin, you can’t live up to Bear Bryant or Joe Parerno, so if you bail where can you create a legacy?

Not sure the timing is right. Unless someone dangles 10m+ per year then all bets are off.

Personally, I've never been sold on Franklin.  Some questionable character issues have dogged him, especially at Vandy.

His predecessor at PSU left for the NFL.  Penn State will always be in the shadow of Ohio State and Michigan, and he will be in the shadows of Meyer and Harbaugh.

A&M has a lot to offer.  Saban wont be around forever.  And Franklin probably feels like he matches up favorably on the recruiting trail with Tom Herman.

I think Franklin is right where he wants to be. He's a Western PA so I'm sure PSU has always been a dream job for him. Penn State won the East last year and look to be the best of the east year.

I don't think Harbaugh will be around for ever either at UM. Meyer. That is hard to tell. Isn't he an Ohio guy?

But would Meyer go to another university?  That is difficult. I am 50/50.

Yeah Meyer ain't leaving Ohio State until he retires. Notre Dame is a lateral move at best.

Complete agreement.  You also have to consider the geographical aspect as Franklin is from Pennsylvania which is a world away from Tejas.  Ask Baylor's coach, one time Temple coach.  The Irish, indeed, are a lateral move.  Gone are the days of the Four Horseman, Joe Montana, even Rocket Ishamil.  I don't know if they'd best to get up and comer (not their style, though) or a respected name.  It's not like they're not sitting on piles of cash in South Bend.

Everybody has a 'dream job" in their profession.  For Meyer, it's Notre Dame.

It could be the crowning achievement of a great career.  Leading the Irish back to the National Championship.  Looking at his track record, he might be nearing his final years at OSU.

Franklin AND Meyer aren't going anywhere, anytime soon.  Notre Dame is Meyer's "dream job"?  How do these rumors get started?  Meyer will retire from Ohio State.   Franklin is in the beginnings of building a national contender at Penn State.  Whether A & M throws big money at him or not, he's going to stay and see that through.  Look at what Penn State was before he got there and where they are now.  Maybe if Penn State wins a national title, but not before.

The ND job was Meyer’s for the asking before Brian Kelly got the job and before Meyer went to OSU. He’s not willing to deal with some of the restrictions in recruiting that come with the ND job. Never happen.

Sometimes, the job is "done," and guys want a new challenge.  Work becomes repetitive.  For some , its more about the process of building than it is about collecting titles.  Meyer seems to be one of those guys.

You are entitled to your opinion, but with the information I have, he's not leaving.  His "job" is far from done.

He took the job he "wanted" and that was to go back home and coach at OSU.
