Tough to judge completely with both teams not having played each other. This however is a small comparison between the 2 teams just on the eyeball test.

Roncalli Run Offense vs Cathedral Run Defense = Advantage Cathedral

Roncalli Pass Offense vs Cathedral Pass Defense = Advantage Roncalli

Cathedral Run Offense vs Roncalli Run Defense = Advantage Cathedral

Cathedral Pass Offense vs Roncalli Pass Defense = Advantage Roncalli (this might be more even if WR Collins were healthy for CHS)

Roncalli Special Teams vs Cathedral Special Teams = Even (After poor punting in the St. X OH game I might have given a slight edge to Roncalli but punting has been much better).

It will definitely come down to which teams units will come through and have a great game. Will Roncalli's run offense and run defense step up and play spectacular? Will Cathedral's pass offense and pass defense step up and play spectacular.

As always turnovers will be a big key for a game like this where emotions will be high for both teams. Both teams are pretty solid in that aspect.

Cathedral 6 total Offensive turnovers = 4 Int's (only 2 by starting QB) and 2 fumbles lost

Cathedral 11 total turnovers created by the defense = 7 Int's and 4 fumbles recovered

Roncalli 2 total Offensive turnovers = 2 Int's and 0 fumbles lost

Roncalli 15 total turnovers created by the defense = 11 Int's and 4 fumbles recovered

It will be a spectacular game on Oct. 27th!

Simplified even more, 1st down efficiency will not only control the game, but eat up clock...Moving the chains and no penalties are key...O-Line & D-Line will decide this game! (Along with 1.5 big plays on special-teams)

The availability of Markese Stepp is also a big factor in this game.  If he's healthy Cathedral has a much better chance of winning this game.  Of course that's a big IF.  He's not been totally healthy, according to those in the know, since the first play of his junior season.

What exactly is wrong with his medically?

He still has a bit of soreness in the hamstring he hurt last season.  I'm hoping the coaching staff was just trying to keep him healthy for the playoffs.

Did he play any other sports? I would say with this being something that was done last year he should have made a full recovery by this point in the season if not sooner.

He's run track but hasn't since the injury, iirc.

Honest question, how many "touches" of the ball has he actually had over the last 24 months?

That depends on how severe the injury is. He returned last year in certain situations during the tournament. He looked fine the first couple of games. He was really laboring with it during the Chatard game. It is easy to get another injury. His injury may be less severe than last year but resting it was best. In the CG game it was obvious they were using him only when they had a shorter field so it wouldn't chance over exertion. You can see him stretching it throughout the game and even riding a stationary bike to keep it stretched.

Roncalli has enough players on offense and more than enough on defense to advance.  Cathedrals downfall is the inconsistency on offense.

Thanks FO for the info.  It's roughly consistent with what I thought.

That said, he is incredibly efficient when he does play.

This opinion is primarily  based upon viewing the past 15+ straight Finals games.  Cathedral's size has seemed to be like a small college team, overwhelming over-matched opponents while Roncalli seemed like a well coached high school team.  So when a college team plays a high school team....  Has this changed this year and if so how?

Roncalli is a very good football team and well coached. Cathedral is a very good football team and well coached. Both teams have size. It is Cathedral vs Roncalli throw everything else out this is a rivalry game being played in sectionals.

Irish by 3 touchdowns!

It will be a great game, wouldn't be surprised if it the margin of victory is 3 or less points. The winner of this game playing Decatur Central will be a great game too.

Question?

is Roncalli QB healthy? I heard he has a hurt shoulder.

Read the first 6 posts of this thread and it should answer your question.

I would guess he's had less than 50 in the past two seasons.

If Markese Stepp is healthy it will make the Irish offense a lot more consistent.  Losing Dajon Collins, the top Irish receiver of all time, has hurt the offense too.
