The Hoosier Conference 2018

Saw a few other conferences getting things started.

Who are the front runners from each side? Who will surprise teams this year?  Who graduated a bunch of seniors?  Who are the players to watch?  Feel free to add comments or observations to the discussion.

Western loses QB, but return a lot of good players still.

Tipton I believe will return a lot of good players

Cass I believe had a nice sophomore class from chit chats

HH was supposedly very young in skill spots

NW.  Lose RB, but all I know about them.

LCC:  Needs a coach 1st.   They lose out on a good SR class who played in a lot of games, especially skill spots.

BC:  Loses big time WR.   Hopefully Coach Hammons continues to improve on their numbers, I thought I was told their incoming class is decent.

WL:   Lose some REALLY good OL but they still have Hood in the backfield and a couple WR to contend with as well.  SOPH QB got a lot of good reps and will be just fine next year.  Leader in the clubhouse in Hoosier West

TL:  3rd year in Coach Mannering system, will continue to grow, they were competitive in a lot of games, but as he stated in many of the articles, they were just lacking some real top end speed and athleticism to match up with some teams this past year.  I thought they played extremely hard all year long

RCHS:  We will be losing all of this:  http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/rensselaer-central-bombers-(rensselaer,in)/football/stats.htm

We return zero passing yards, of our 2914 on the ground, only 983 of it is coming back, leading rusher at 28 carries 226 yards.   Most of our production coming back came from WR spot with 698 yards coming back there.   We return on 2nd leading tackler who had 111 tackles, but next guy up after that was 52 tackles.

LCC graduates 11 or so seniors this year ... almost all starters.  Returns Dienhart (ILB, RB), Schwartz (WR), Beardmore (C), and Rogers (DE), plus a decent supporting cast including current sophomores Schrader (RB) and Roach (SB).  Most of LCC's size remains with mainly Held and Lee graduating at 200+ lbs.  Will be in search of a new QB ... most likely Dulin or Onken sliding in there or an "unknown."  Current freshmen to watch next season are Puskar and Rayman.  Freshman class will be small in terms of weight.  LCC will be likely in a second rebuilding year.

Has LCC started their coaching search?

Thought this was odd:

CLASS SECTIONAL JOHN HARRELL'S INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RECENT SEASONS
1A 42 E-MAIL CORRECTIONS MAP TO SCHOOL 0-0
TOURNAMENT HISTORY
LAFAYETTE CENTRAL CATHOLIC
KNIGHTS
Coach: , 0-0 in 1st year at school

HOOSIER CONFERENCE GAME

Typically, LCC has played WL at the end of the season or close to the very end.  Going to come really early in 2018.  With Jeff and Guerin at the front of the season, most likely, LCC will end up with a very tough front end again.

What no North Judson on the Bomber Schedule???  That has been a forever game/rivalry.  Great pick up of Western though.

Oh, by what I have seen of the Rensselaer JV the last couple of years the Bombers will be just fine!!!!

Judson New conference and Hoosier Conference shake up has led to this current form.   My understanding is that Each East/West team will play 2 other schools from the other division in Non conference game to help each other out balance schedules.    Western and Northwestern come onto the schedule and we lose Judson and Champaign Central/Hammond Clark 2 year gig we had to roll with post Delphi exit.   Stinks no doubt as many fond memories of Judson weeks both as a player (not so many fond memories, but we do have my 1996 year beating them when they were #2 in state) and of course the great run of the 2000's we had with them.    We have played Western 3 years ago with Knepley was a FR then this past year in Crossover.

LCC does not play Jeff in 2018, unless there is another 6a team you are referencing......

WL and Tri West no more week 1, instead Jeff inserts themselves there week 1 2018 and next 3 years after.

LCC will surely play Guerin still, but not sure who their other non conference team would be.   LCC will have 2 teams from the East as well as Non conf.

RCHS:  Western NW:  we kept North Newton and KV

WL:  HH and Cass :  They keep Mccutcheon and add Jeff.

Has something changed?  When the 2017 game was announced back in 2016, it was announced as a four-game series.

I would guess that Jeff strongly felt that playing LCC is good for the area, it does nothing to help them prepare to beat Carmel in sectionals.

Twin Lakes will have four crossover games? Odd.

That my friend will probably never happen as long as they play in the NCC.

Tipton will be similar to the 2013 State runner up team in that there will be a lot of Seniors and experience. The one difference is that the sophomores next year is a very talented class. 2013 didn't have much behind them. It all starts with Roudebush back at QB. He returns all his skill players outside of Burkett including big play Luke Stoker. OL should be pretty good as well with 3 full time starters and 2 others who played a ton. Offense should be even better next year. Defense still returns some very good player lead by DE's Carter and Baird, DT Brown, LB Connor, S Lillis, S Stoker, CB Flanigan. London and Edwards will be tough to replace at LB but have some kids that should be ready to step up. High expectations for this team.

Tri-West vs. LCC week #1.  Varsity teams have never played each other.  JV teams played a series back in the late 90s.  That was stopped when TW joined the Sagamore conference in 1999.  Looking forward to this meeting.

Somewhere along the way I must have missed the fact that Delphi left the Hoosier Conference a year or so ago. I see that in the IHSAA  conference listings they are listed as being an independent. Does anyone know what the Oracles future conference plans are?Hoosier Heartland seems like the most logical choice for a conference for them to join although it already has about 10 or 11 members and may not want to add another school for now.
