LC job opening

Recommended Posts

Now that it's official that LC's coach has flown the coop done the street to what is seen to be greener pastures the question becomes who does LC hire to take over what I think is an up and coming program. ( Yes I know they have won state in the near past but still hadn't reached the top and stayed there for any long length of time i.e Ben Davis or Warren). I can think of some great candidates. But who do you think would fit into that program and bring it to the top?

If I remember correctly, a name a lot of people threw around a lot during the previous opening was Emil Ekiyor (Sr.). I am not sure anything about him except for his son and that he coached at Tech, but now that Emil Jr. is done at Cathedral I could see that being a possibility. I would also guess they'd go after some of the smaller schools hot candidates like Kyle Ralph and Nick Hart. No matter what though, I hope that is a great hire.

Emil Ekiyor (Sr.) has been an assistant at Cathedral the last few years. He did a solid job at Tech, if he wanted to get into the Head Coaching ranks again he would be a terrific Head Coach.

Some young names that could be looked at K.C. Woods has done a terrific job at Danville and Nick Hart has done a terrific job at Gibson Southern. Would LC be interested in them or would they be interested in LC?

Could LC lure Kevin O'Shea from North Central? He has done a fantastic job at North Central. Could LC be enticing enough to get Coach Ralph lured away from New Palestine? What about John Hart, would he want to step back into the MIC and leave Brownsburg to try his hand at LC? There are possibilities just not sure who LC is interested in and / or if any of these coaches are interested in LC. I am sure we will find out very soon.

If I'm the athletic director at Lawrence Central, I can see that my football program is on the crest of breaking thru to elite status in Class 6A.

I am in my principal's office and pushing hard for the resources to recruit and sign the strongest possible candidate I can find to take my program to the next level.

I am focusing my in state efforts on the following group of high quality, accomplished coaches, in no particular order :

Kyle Ralph  /  60-4 at New Palestine - 5A is nice, but 6A is King.

Nick Hart / 67-9 at Gibson Southern - ready for his first shot with the big dogs.

Phil Mason / 16-8 at Michigan City - 129 - 69 overall -  Region guy gets his shot in Indy

Kyle Enright / 17-5 at Decatur Central - Nice program.  Develops athletes/players.  I want to talk to him.

Shane Fry / 53-12 at West Lafayette - Tremendous success at the small school level.  Can he translate his success with the big schools?

Scott Marsh / 8-2 at Roncalli - I want to talk to a PP to get a different POV.

Jake Gilbert / 50-33 at Westfield - solid program builder.  Hangs tough against bigger schools.  That's important in The MIC.

What do I (LC) have to offer :

* Deep roster with some Big Ten quality talent

* Great size and speed, as good as any in the state

* Excellent facilities

* Deep staff resources

* Administrative support - they want a winner!

* Excellent ties to college recruiting

If I can get one of the guys on the above list, my program will be positioned to push forward towards its ultimate goal.

I am surprised on your list you left off K.C. Woods 23-4 in 2 seasons at Danville with a trip to Regionals and a trip to Semi-State. Things were pretty down at Danville prior to him coming in and changing the culture. Heck the 3 seasons prior to him arriving they went 3-8, 4-6, and 2-8. He has definitely a coach on the upswing.

Lawrence Central's roster has a few talented players, but they lose several outstanding players from this year (notably Cam McGrone and Donyell Meredith). Their roster is at the middle to bottom end of the spectrum in the MIC as far as depth (Carmel 204, Warren Central 162, Ben Davis 145, Center Grove 103, North Central 90, Lawrence Central 90, Lawrence North 83, Pike 81). This next year will be a rebuilding type of year for Lawrence Central as they return a few good players on offense and defense (Notably Donivan Wright and Lashon Bright). They will have some big shoes to fill at QB and on Defense. They may be a little bit down from this last year.

Great list, but I am willing to bet that some of the names on that list are already in ideal situations, and are not interested in moving anywhere.

Exactly what I was thinking, except for maybe to the next level...

Good list.

I'd throw Tim Able on any list as well. I wouldn't totally discount a guy like John Hart, either.

I would stay away from both.

Able stepped down from big school football.  Doubt he wants back in to the grind.

Hart moves around too much.  Id look closer at his son.

The Hart interview would be interesting.  I would particularly be interested in his explanation for leaving Warren Central.

Didn't know Derek Moyers was back in the game.  Might be a good fit at Lawrence Central.  Similar setup to what he had at Pike.

Coach Moyers would be a great fit and was on the LC staff early in his career. He has a son in the Plainfield program so I don’t expect his hat to be in the ring.
