Conference Indiana 2018

Recommended Posts

Seriously looking forward to the Chatard games this season at Southport (6A) and Bloomington South (5A).

I really love the idea behind these extra-league games between the Circle City Conference and Conference Indiana.

Truly can't wait for these games.

Complete teardown and rebuild

Or, all new campus on different site.  I believe their preference was to stay in their current location.

They did that at Boulder City- https://bouldercityreview.com/news/new-year-new-school-bchs-set-to-open-40000-square-foot-building-after-winter-break/

the new Rancho HS was built on the former football field.

Just to stir it up....and get past discussions of public spending, does the CCC or Conference Indiana win more games in contra-league play?

How does it break down?

Should be competitive  . I think roncalli and southport already had been playing . The rebels winning the last two  overall i think their series was about even. But southport has taken a step down i feel since peebles left. Not a huge drop off but a shade at least.   I'm sort of shocked the Guerin gets 6A CN . Maybe they could have matched these games up a bit better. Roncalli wins vs bhsn and maybe a toss up at bhss. Brebuef possibly spilts vs southport/ths, i do not know what brebuef returns from their trip to state.  Chatard has a tough schedule beginning to end but i don't know the strength of their two late out of state opponents.  I am enthused

I admit to not knowing just what Brebeuf and Guerin look like.  Brebeuf had some way to go early in the year last year v. Chatard but were able to come out of the North in 3A.  I have seen someone here predicting Guerin to be at LOS at year end in 3A...no idea....but my opinion is that they have a bit of a way to go to to live up to that.

Roncalli, up or down (my guess is "up") will always play tough.  Pretty much the same for Chatard...(who effectively played a MIC schedule last year when looking at out of state games) who almost beat Lawrence Central (a team I personally think was 2nd only to Ben Davis)...yet Chatard got destroyed by Danville.

I honestly think all these games will be well worth watching.

My early top 3 in order, CN, Southport, BHSS. Watched my nephew at CN scrimmage BHSS at their team camp at IU. CN had very little trouble with the Panthers. To be honest, BHSS look to be a lot smaller upfront than usual.

Not always tell everything from team camps . Some football (& bball players ,multi sport guys ) players for south may be travelling with the summer aau  jr holmes ( souths basketball coach)  basketball circuit ( circus) . Either way CN  shut south out last season for their first win vs bhss in 4 years. I would agree with your assumption although cn may be better than southport this season. I remember they had some good players returning. BHSS will have their work cut out for them to place above cn or southport from what they have lost the last two years have been very injury ridden as well as some behavior issues where kids were being booted from team.   In fact i am unaware of what south returns  in a lot of places.  Return a little 5'5 160 lb rb who really ran hard last year real fast and can handle a lot of punishment.

Add to B. South’s problem that the two guys that started at qb last year are gone.  One graduated and one moved to Florida.

So  , the only thing i have heard about this years bhss team is that 3 time all state lb from a few yrs. ago (Tommy Richardson)    his little bro is going to be the qb. He had a somewhat serious spinal injury his freshman season and has not  had a huge career like his older bro. Other than that i am drawing blanks on what we will see. I think bhss will do good to end with a .500 record. But mo has surprised a lot in the past, seems like everytime i  'diss' the panthers i wind up regretting it.

BHSS will be pretty solid defensively.  Offense is where all the questions are, starting with QB and OL in that order.

I want to pick Columbus North as the conference champ but I'm hesitant after looking at their schedule. They have a brutal three game stretch from weeks 2 to 4: vs Columbus East, at Southport and vs Roncalli. Will they have enough left in the tank to beat Southport after an emotional rivalry game? I'm interested to see how they handle this stretch of games and how they respond from it to close out the second half of the season.

I think the Conference Indiana championship will be between Columbus North and Southport.  It may very well come down to their game the third week of the season.   North has one of the best quarterbacks in the state.  They need to find another receiver or two to go with two returning starters.  Southport-North games are usually close.  I expect the same this year.  I believe Bloomington South, Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South to be in the middle of the pack.  Unfortunately, Bloomington North will be in the cellar again.

The intra conference games with the Circle City Conference is an interesting new wrinkle to Central Indiana football.   Could the next couple of seasons be a preview of a merger of the two conferences?   If not the entire conferences, maybe the four largest CCC schools and Southport, C. North, B. South, and B. North?   That could be fun.

Probably a pipe dream.

It should come down to CN and Southport for the title.  They both have excellent QB's and will have more skilled talent than anyone else in the conference.  Not sure about CN's line, but was thinking they return several.  Southport may be hurting on that front unless there's a lot of improvement and/or growth.  They lost two good ones to graduation and there was a big fall off after that.  THN may be the sleeper.  BHSS looked more like pre-Mo BHSS last year and didn't seem to have that same level of confidence.  I'd expect a great coach to get the most out of what he has but I think that's less this year than were used to.  THS and BHSN round it out but I think they'll both have marginal success and should win a few games.

The Circle City schedule merger I think is great and should work well for both conferences creating some intriguing match ups but I don't see them ever combining conferences especially if this format works.  I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

You don’t think Chatard would rather drive to Bloomington or Columbus than Covington, Kentucky or Michigan to play?  I expect Columbus North would rather drive to Indianapolis than Terre Haute.

I think it makes lots of sense for both conferences.

I sort of look at chatard like i look at cathedral. Enterprising catholic schools. I think they would prefer to get out and play some real stiff competition  . I think the competition in ci is adequate but it isn't a top 5 conference in this state anymore in my opinion.

Can you imagine if they started from scratch?

Coincidently, their football program has gone in the tank since they opened that beautiful new facility.  Must be bad karma.  The old football stadium was called "The Burial Grounds."  :04_v:

Yes it was. And we defended those “grounds” w EVERYTHING we had. Loved that old ball field.

I think Chatard would love the shorter trips in general but they will probably always play one in the Cincy area.    I don't think either conference has a better choice in football right now so this arrangement works but not sure that's enough to dismantle a new circle city conference.  Plus if you combine you'd be in a ten team conference that wouldn't work well for football.  Again, Chatard is always going to want to play a Cincy school.
