Boilernation
Interesting story line at least to me is Vince Lidy making the return to Evansville as a 1st time HC. I'm sure there will be some sentimental emotion for him. He can follow in his fathers footsteps and win a Semi-State in Evansville. He's the only QB I've ever seen who was tough enough to also be a dominate LB on the defensive side of the ball. What did you think of MV when Noblesville played them? So Noblesville ended up winning by 21 in a shootout.

Noblesville has a massive O-Line and runs power formations (7 downed OL) and Mt. Vernon's front 7 couldn't handle it. Noblesville probably only attempted 2-3 pass the entire game, so I'm sure Memorial will present an entirely different offensive game plan. Offensive, Mt. Vernon spread the field and had a really good passing attack to go along with their running game. Noblesville couldn't stop it when Mt. Vernon was on. Self inflicted mistakes by Mt. Vernon really held their offense back in that game. Looking at last weeks box score, Mt. Vernon ran for 234 yards (6.2 avg) against a really good Roncalli defense. That's extremely impressive. So, you know they can run the ball and their QB can throw it. He's 6'2 with good ball placement. Averaging 198 passing yards/game.

Been studying MV since after the EC game on Saturday. I did see that their QB and RB are the same guys we faced off 2 years ago in the 2019 Semi-State (although they are heavily improved). Their Offensive line looks pretty big, but appears to be smaller than EC's, however, their D-line appears to average 236. But they do appear to have 2 way players on both sides of the ball, 2 offensive linemen are DE's, and like 2-3 other guys that play LB/CB. Their offensive power looks really strong averaging around 51 PPG. Looks like their punting game appears a little suspect, although I do believe they are missing stats from that. Should be a great game come Friday, going to be interesting see Memorial's D against MV's O.

TigerFan20
Memorial’s season Overall (11-2, 7-2 SIAC) Offense: Passing yards: 144 YPG CP% 0.64 Rushing Yards: 173 YPG 5.9 YPC Total: 317 YPG/32.8 PPG Defense: Passing (allowed): 93 YPG Rushing (allowed): 77 YPG Total: 170 YPG/ 11.0 PPG Regional Championship recap: In a game of mixed emotions, Memorial prevailed over East Central, scoring 17 straight points from an first half deficit of 14-0. In the first half of the game, Memorial already saw themselves down 7-0 in the early 1 Quarter, although it was a controversial call on the "fumble". Defensively the team did excellent from allowing East Central to blow open the doors by creating a crucial forced fumble outside of the Memorial RZ and causing an interception somewhere late 2Q. However, East Central drove 80 yards down for RB Josh Ringer to score a 5 yard TD to make it 14-0 EC, after Memorial's Offense failed to score inside the EC 5. But when it came to the 2nd half, that is when the Tigers woke up and shined on the field. The first drive of the 2nd half was rough for the Tigers, but that all changed later on. Around the 2 minute mark in the 3Q, Memorial marched its way downfield, after an 64 yard catch by Leo Collins and Memorial would score on an Ellspermann 6 yard shuffle pass to Xavier Tyler to make it 14-7 EC 3Q. Following a long EC Offensive that took over around 4-5 Minutes off the clock in the 4Q, Memorial would get the ball back after an EC punt around the MEM 43. And around the 5;50 mark after a nice 28 yard catch by Ray Brodie a few plays earlier, Ellspermann threw a tight TD pass to SR Dominic Norman to tie the game, 14-14 all. The next 5 minutes of the game were tense, as both teams traded punts, EC got the ball with 3:50 left in the game and drove all the way near midfield. However, with the Tiger D forcing EC's O some costly mistakes, forcing an intentionally grounding making it an 3rd and 23. EC QB Burton looked downfield to one of his receivers, but LB Sr Will Rogers was in the way and intercepted the ball at the EC 38 with around over an minute left. From there, Memorial would march all the way down to the EC 14 line, where K Nico Brougham kicked a FG with 3 seconds left, winning the game 17-14 in a comeback. Memorial's defense was spot on for the entire game only allowing EC to score 7 offensive points and forced 5 crucial turnovers in the game. With the Farmer Boys, Rogers, Shea, Russell, and Draper leading the way. Memorial now looks forward in meeting a familiar face in the Final Four against Mount Vernon-Fortville, in the 2019 SS rematch.

Indeed, his "give a crap" was broke a long time ago. He had that same attitude in high school. To this day (20 years now), I haven't personally seen a high school athlete that could do what he could do on both sides of the ball. Anymore, most these guys don't even play both sides, even in little schools like us. He was ridiculous at baseball as well.

I am trying to think of some others that were similar to Cutler on both sides of the ball. First one that pops to mind that I personally watched is James Banks (Ben Davis). Was a dangerous QB (passing and running) also was a ballhawk safety. What about possibly Jack Kiser?

I have always said Chris Kramer of Purdue basketball lore was one of the best football athletes I ever saw when he played at Huntington North. Our sectional game against him his junior year, he never left the field. Stud QB, stud safety, stud kick/punt returner. He did it all. He's a guy that I think always gets lost in this conversation because of his location and the fact that they never had an amazing record, but if you saw him play, you knew he was just as good on the gridiron as he was on the hardwood. TigerFan20
Saw on FaceBook that MV is planning to leave before 12 after their police escort sendoff/parade. Love the local support for teams. If I remember correctly, their visitor side during the 2019 game was completely filled up, so I’m expecting them to bring a big crowd. TigerFan20
Indy star article: Mt. Vernon (12-1) at Evansville Memorial (11-2) The last time Mt. Vernon made this trip, in the 2019 semistate, it did not go very well. The Marauders lost 28-3 to Evansville Memorial, which went on to win its second state title in three seasons. This fourth-ranked Mt. Vernon team, coming off a 27-21 win over top-ranked and defending champion Roncalli, should have plenty of confidence and have veterans with seniors Gehrig Slunaker (69% passer, 2,579 yards, 30 TDs), Keagan LaBelle (1,370 rushing yards, 21 TDs) and Ashden Gentry (1,027 rushing yards, 11 TDs). No. 8 Evansville Memorial knocked off No. 5 East Central 17-14 last week, rallying from a 14-0 deficit to win on a last-second field goal. Aiden Farmer leads the Memorial defense with 13 sacks. The Marauders are looking for their first state finals appearance. Mt. Vernon 26, Evansville Memorial 23.

My top 4 opponents during this run for Memorial. 2018 WL, 2021 MT V, 2017 Danville , 2018 Chatard. Don’t know about Mt. V yet, but I would replace 2018 Chatard with 2019 Mooresville. I recollect that Chatard was big names and hype that didn’t pan out on the field in the game I saw. Much like the big plays vs East Central with the Rogers one handed interception with clock winding down that set up the Brougham field goal, the Mooresville plays of Stepto pick 6 with spin move, Quick forced fumble on the KO, Stepto-Pence-Hurley TD in 3 successive plays to get 14-0 lead that was the game difference will be talked about for years. It appears they have a few guys from their 2019 squad still on their team, like their starting QB and RB. Should be an really good game in a packed Enlow, better get your tickets quick! tango
4A PLAYOFFS Mt. Vernon (Fortville, IN) at Reitz Memorial (Evansville, IN), 7:00pm EST [projection: Mt. Vernon (Fortville, IN) 31-30] A prediction doesn't get much closer than that. For Memorial to have a chance the D is going to have to hold MV to less than 31 points. I think we can do that, but we'll need to tackle better than Roncalli did last week. Our D has been pretty stingy, so hopefully we can keep it close and work a little Enlow magic. MV is very impressive though.

TigerFan20
Season Totals- Mt Vernon (12-1, 7-0 HHC) Offense: Passing: 200 YPG CP% 0.69 Rushing: 238 YPG 8.6 YPC Total: 438 YPG/ 49 PPG Defense (Connersville game not included): Passing (allowed): 92 YPG Rushing (allowed): 184 YPG Total: 276 YPG/ 18.5 YPG Regional Recap: How about them Marauders from Fortville? With the #1, 4A favorite, defending champion Roncalli coming into town, you know the Marauders were fired up. As this was their 3rd straight regional matchup since 2019. And of course, these Marauders wanted revenge from last year's 35-14 loss to Roncalli. In the First half, Roncalli jumped out to a quick 7-0 after a mid shuffle pass interception from MV at mid. However, MV would respond with 17 unanswered points until a late TD by Roncalli making the game, 17-14 at the half. In the 2nd half, the MV scored another 10 straight points to make it 27-14 in the 4Q. But Roncalli did respond with a really quick TD to make it 27-21, but MV had the ball left with 3 minutes left and Roncalli had no more timeouts. After wasting some time on the clock and having some clock issues, MV would put it with 15 seconds left, which opened the door for Roncalli. But that MV D took care of business and their Hail Mary pass was patted down. MV wins its 27-21 and wins their 2nd ever regional championship. But with a familiar team around the corner in the Final Four, the Marauders are going to remember and hold on their 28-3 beat down by Evansville Memorial in 2019. And hope that they can change that this Friday. Offensively, MV put up a whopping 380 total yards against a really good Roncalli Defense. QB Slunaker threw for 149 yards, even though he had 3 interceptions, some of his passes were game changers in the game. Rushing wise, the Marauders put up 234 rushing yards behind RB Labelle (71 yards 4.2 YPC 1 TD) and TE/DB Burhenn (115 yards 23.5 YPC) Defensively, MV shut down Roncalli QB Leffler in passing and only allowing him to have 81 rushing yards and a TD. And keeping Roncalli to just 205 rushing yards, while Labelle and Hiner lead the team in Tackles.
