Americans Reject Biden's Divisive Rhetoric

https://reason.com/2022/09/16/americans-reject-bidens-divisive-rhetoric/

Quote

President Biden is discovering the hard way that standing at a podium bathed in blood-red light, flanked by marines, and denouncing your political opponents as threats to the country is not as popular a move as he hoped. Poll after poll finds Americans repulsed by the September 1 fear-fest in Philadelphia, which drew comparisons to V for Vendetta and Star Wars for its over-the-top authoritarian tone. The president tried to convince the country that his critics are dangerous, but he seems to have convinced many, instead, that the real peril lives in the White House.

"It represents a dangerous escalation in rhetoric and is designed to incite conflict among Americans" was the choice of 56.8 percent of respondents asked by the Trafalgar Group to characterize Biden's speech. Another 35.5 percent called it "acceptable campaign messaging" and 7.7 percent weren't sure.

Sixty percent of respondents told the Harvard CAPS/Harris poll that the speech "divides [the country] and holds it back" while 54 percent added that it "was an example of fear mongering."

"62 percent of Americans believed Biden's comments about Trump and his MAGA followers 'increases division in the country,'" chimes in the I&I/TIPP poll. "Perhaps surprisingly, Democrats—at 73 percent—were more likely to say that Biden's MAGA comments increased division than either Republicans (50 percent) or independents (57 percent)."

That really is a bit of a surprise, though it might be that those who weren't already on Team Blue started with such low expectations that the president's exercise in frothing at the mouth didn't offer much more room for disappointment. After all, the Philadelphia speech came after Biden had already accused his political enemies of flirting with "semi-fascism."

It's true that President Biden's approval rating bounced back in recent weeks. The FiveThirtyEight average has him at merely 11 points underwater rather than the laughable 20 points he hit back in July. But the reaction to his "threats" speech suggests he's either poised to send his popularity back off a cliff, or that he's just firmed up his standing among the true believers while horrifying everybody else. Both Trafalgar and Harvard CAPS/Harris found a majority of Democrats favoring the speech in contrast to I&I/TIPP, so make of that what you will. Everybody found the event unpopular with the general public.

That said, Joe Biden isn't the entire Democratic Party. His foot-stomping doesn't necessarily mean bad news for co-partisans as they prepare for the midterm elections. But he's certainly not doing the brand any favors when he tears up his 2020 promises to act as a unifier.

"I don't look at this in terms of the way he does, blue states and red states," Biden insisted during the final debate of the campaign as he contrasted himself with then-President Donald Trump. "They're all the United States. … I'm running as a proud Democrat, but I'm going to be an American president."

An American president except for the half the country he calls out as representing "extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic" it appears. That he's not impressing anybody is clear when people are asked what really worries them.

"Do you think that the president Biden is fairly raising issues around MAGA Republicans or is the President trying to avoid talking about inflation, immigration, crime and other issues?" Harvard CAPS/Harris asked in its poll. A majority (59 percent) of respondents said the president is trying to change the subject at a time when people have serious concerns about the state of the country and the world beyond and his administrations is drawing lousy ratings pretty much across the board.

Even more concerning to the president and the ascendant progressive wing of the Democratic Party is where those polled see the real danger when it comes to political movements in the United States. Fifty-five percent of respondents in the Harvard CAPS/Harris survey said they're more concerned about "the socialist left" while 45 percent answered that they're more concerned about "MAGA Republicans."

Of course, it makes sense to focus on the "extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic" that you see actually controlling the White House and Congress, rather than an alternate extremism that's out of power. But the sizeable percentage worried about MAGA Republicans along with the looming midterm elections raise an important question: Why not both?

Authoritarian factions have taken dominant positions in both major political parties. Which faction is more dangerous is a matter of who is in a position to implement their policies and demonstrate how much harm they can do. At the moment, the Democrats control the presidency, the House, and (barely) the Senate and get to reap the lack of rewards for Americans' unhappiness with inflation, crime, and the general direction of the country. After the GOP inevitably gets back into a position of authority in D.C., it will have another opportunity to show how much damage it can inflict and maybe Americans will reconsider their assessment of relative perils.

But, right now, Joe Biden is president, and his party wields the power of the federal government. That includes the FBI, which raided the home of the last president, as well as the IRS, which just received an infusion of funds to extract more taxes from the population. Both vastly powerful agencies suffer declining public trust (as does the government overall). That leaves Americans, outside of the Democratic Party's core loyalists, deeply unimpressed when the person with the greatest authority over that vast apparatus tries to smear opponents as the real danger.

Keep in mind that a significant majority of Americans (67 percent as of 2017, according to Gallup) view big government as the greatest threat to the country. Standing at the head of that government and lashing out at your political enemies isn't how the president of the United States convinces people otherwise. Instead, it makes an already unpopular political figure look desperate, unhinged, and potentially the very danger he insists is posed by others.

Joe Biden did himself no favors with that inflammatory speech in Philadelphia. He almost certainly worsened political strife in an already divided country that certainly could have used the moderate unifier he promised to be on the campaign trail far more than the inarticulate demagogue he's been since taking office. Whether he damaged his party's prospects in the process is something we'll discover only when voters cast their ballots in November.

Uni-party to the max.  Vote third-party this November.

Biden Asks If Recently Deceased Congresswoman Is At White House Speech

https://www.zerohedge.com/political/watch-biden-asks-if-recently-deceased-congresswoman-white-house-speech

Quote

President Biden's latest gaffe - no not the pedophile one -  was quite the doozy.

joe%20biden%20finger1_0.jpg?itok=U5-K4It

While reading remarks during a White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health, Biden asked if the late Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN) was in attendance.

Walorski was tragically killed in a car crash last month.

"I want to thank all of you here, including bipartisan elected officials like Rep. McGovern, Sen. Braun, Sen. Booker, Rep. — Jackie, are you here?" Biden said. "Where's Jackie? I thought she was going to be here — to help make this a reality."

What's more, Biden issued a statement saying that Walorski's death left he and first lady Jill Biden "shocked and saddened."

"We may have represented different parties and disagreed on many issues, but she was respected by members of both parties for her work on the House Ways and Means Committee on which she served," reads the statement (which Biden totally wrote). "She also served as co-chair of the House Hunger Caucus, and my team and I appreciated her partnership as we plan for a historic White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health this fall that will be marked by her deep care for the needs of rural America."

.........

As one of comments to this sad story states:

"Commander in Chief."

"Think about that."

Harris hails US ‘alliance with North Korea’ in latest Biden admin botch: https://nypost.com/2022/09/29/kamala-harris-hails-us-alliance-with-north-korea/

Quote

Vice President Kamala Harris made an unforced error of global proportions Thursday by touting the strong alliance between the United States and “the Republic of North Korea” during a visit to the Korean Demilitarized Zone.

“The United States shares a very important relationship, which is an alliance with the Republic of North Korea,” said the veep, flubbing the official name of longstanding US ally South Korea, the Republic of Korea. “And it is an alliance that is strong and enduring.”

The gaffe was the latest foreign policy-related blunder by Harris, who was mocked earlier this year for a “word salad” discussion of the Russian invasion of Ukraine — in which she made the bizarre claim that the whole of Europe had known peace since the end of World War II.

“Please tell me this is a deep fake,” reacted former Treasury Department official Monica Crowley on Twitter.

“Diplomacy is back, baby,” former US diplomat Alberto Miguel Fernandez snarked on Twitter. “Evidently we switched sides in Korea under the Biden Administration and nobody told us. Unlike her boss, she can’t claim advanced old age as a defense.”

..

After Harris concluded her visit to South Korea, Seoul’s belligerent northern neighbor fired at least one ballistic missile off its east coast.

The launch, reported by the South Korean military, follows the firing of two short-range ballistic rockets Wednesday ahead of Harris’ stop in Seoul, part of a four-day trip that included a stop in Japan to attend the funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was assassinated in July.

North Korea also fired off a rocket Sunday before Harris embarked on her tour.

...

Gees, I don't know who is worse, sleepy Joe or stupid Kamala.

How's that visit to UAE working out for you Uncle Joe?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11283503/Biden-OPEC-oil-production-gas-prices.html

Saudi Arabia snubs Biden as OPEC CUTS oil production by 2 MILLION barrels a day: Gas prices set to rise HIGHER after White House 'begged middle east nations not to cut output' just five weeks before midterms

  • The cut is OPEC+'s largest since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic
  • It could help Russia keep financing its illegal invasion of Ukraine despite the West's efforts to cut oil and gas as a source of revenue for Putin's war machine
  • The White House was 'having a spasm and panicking' over the potential outcomes of OPEC's decision, an unnamed administration official told CNN
  • Biden aides took victory laps when gas prices fell at a record pace this summer
  • They have been relatively silent on the issue as they start to creep back up
  • Prices at the pump have jumped by 60 cents per gallon in some parts of the US
  • The president told reporters that he 'needs to see the details' of OPEC+'s announcement when asked for reaction on Wednesday
  • National Security Council official John Kirby downplayed the likely effects in an interview on Fox News and said the US needs to be less dependent on foreign oil

SF kinda remembers the Former Senator/Vice President taking a whole lot of credit for solving and avoiding this mess.  Are we finding out this is not true?

https://www.wndu.com/2022/10/10/large-rail-union-rejects-deal-renewing-strike-possibility/?fbclid=IwAR2u2Mz0d5mn_ic1IMnbtJpDiFIX2xkD1sTwYiVk1WCT_NLbpXGCWmMwYdg

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The third largest railroad union rejected its deal with freight railroads Monday — renewing the possibility of a strike that could cripple the economy — but before that could happen both sides will return to the bargaining table.

About 56% of the track maintenance workers represented by the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division union who voted opposed the five-year contract even though it included 24% raises and $5,000 in bonuses. Union President Tony Cardwell said the railroads didn’t do enough to address worker concerns about the lack of paid time off — particularly sick time — and demanding working conditions after the major railroads eliminated nearly one-third of their jobs over the past six years.

“Railroaders are discouraged and upset with working conditions and compensation and hold their employer in low regard. Railroaders do not feel valued,” Cardwell said in a statement. “They resent the fact that management holds no regard for their quality of life, illustrated by their stubborn reluctance to provide a higher quantity of paid time off, especially for sickness.”

The railroads didn’t immediately comment on the rejected contract.

Four other railroad unions have approved their agreements with the freight railroads that include BNSF, Union Pacific, Kansas City Southern, CSX and Norfolk Southern, but all 12 unions that represent a total of 115,000 workers must ratify their contracts to prevent a strike. One other union, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, initially rejected its deal but has since renegotiated a new contract. The voting won’t be completed until mid-November.

President Joe Biden put pressure on the railroads and unions to reach a deal last month ahead of a mid-September deadline to allow a strike or walkout. Many businesses also urged Congress to be ready to intervene in the dispute and block a strike if an agreement wasn’t reached because so many companies rely on railroads to deliver their raw materials and finished products.

In general, the deals the unions agreed to closely follow the recommendations a special panel of arbitrators that Biden appointed made this summer. That Presidential Emergency Board recommended what would be the biggest raises rail workers have seen in more than four decades, but it didn’t resolve the unions’ concerns about working conditions. Instead it said the unions should pursue additional negotiations or arbitration that can take years with each railroad individually.

The Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way union said it agreed to delay any strike until five days after Congress reconvenes in mid November to allow time for additional negotiations.

Heh Heh.   I just got a new property assessment from our County Assessor.  Our assessed valuation went up by over $16,000.   😞       Yay, more insane property taxes.  Have to help pay for that $7.5 million downtown park, a brand new police station, and a new pool/aquatic center.

In 2 years, mine increased 33K. Rather than it being a federal thing though, in my mind, this is local politicians figuring out how to get around the 1% cap.

Do they really think we are that stupid???  The average gas price today is $3.85 per gallon compared to $2.37 in January of 2021.  (Even after Biden begged the Saudis)

https://nypost.com/2022/10/19/white-house-says-americans-saving-420m-at-the-pump-as-it-prepares-to-tap-strategic-oil-reserve/

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was slammed Tuesday for claiming that Americans have saved $420 million on gas since pump prices hit all-time recorded highs earlier this year — even as President Biden goes to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve well for 15 million more barrels of oil.

“Every month, the typical two-driver family saves about $120 at the pump compared to where we were in mid-June,” Jean-Pierre told reporters during her regular briefing. “Everyday Americans — Americans saved about $420 million at the pump compared to mid-June.”

While the price of gasoline has fallen from a nationwide average of $5.01 per gallon on June 14 to $3.85 per gallon as of Wednesday, according to AAA, Americans are still feeling pain at the pump compared to when Biden took office — when the price of a gallon of gas averaged $2.37

“That’s like using a $.20 coupon to buy an item that is $.60 more than it was originally, then thinking to myself, ‘I feel better about my spending habits. Look how much money I’m saving!’,” one Twitter user reacted to Jean-Pierre’s comments. “Do people really not see this? They think we are really that dumb?”

“You can’t have it both ways, KJP,” another said. “If we’re saving that much, then the Biden-Harris administration COST us millions.”

"You’re probably aware I just signed a law that’s being challenged by my Republican colleagues—the same people who got PPP loans—during the, up to, in some cases up to five, six hundred thousand dollars. They have no problem with that—the individuals in Congress that got those," Biden said.

He then reiterated the details of his plan, which allow for up to $20,000 in loan forgiveness for Pell grant recipients, and up to $10,000 for all other college graduates.

"It’s passed, I got it passed by a vote or two, and it’s in effect," Biden incorrectly claimed.

Quick question:

Why is one political party allowed to question/deny election results and its acceptable while the other doing so immediately makes them a "threat to democracy?"

So much for "Jim Eagle/Jim Crow 2.0."

"When Democrats talk about "democracy," they're talking about the importance of institutions that ensure the voters get a say among multiple choices and the one they most prefer gets to rule. But they are also saying voters do not get to do that in this election. The message is that there is only one party contesting this election that is committed to democracy—the Democrats—and therefore only one real choice available. If voters reject Democrats' agenda or their record on issues including inflation, crime, and immigration (or abortion, for that matter), they have no recourse at the ballot box—they simply must vote for Democrats anyway, at least until such time as the Republican Party is run by the likes of Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.

This amounts to telling voters that they have already lost their democracy."

And Joe Biden is more than likely heading towards a win in 2024.

The fact the GOP isn't gonna win back the senate and barely have a majority in the house is not a good sign for them in 24.

Joe Biden won't be President past January, 2023.  Been predicting this since the 2020 election.  He is the placeholder until then.  Have no prediction what will take him out, just that he will be out.
