Never to early discussing next season!

Will Reitz go for the 3-peat or will there be another team(s) to claim the crown?

I think they will be capable of it. They do lose a lot of key players who started for 3 years, which is not easy to replace. But I think they return just enough and have talent coming up that they will still be good. I think there is a good chance Memorial takes the crown, especially if they have Fisher. However, Reitz has won 18 straight conference games and is top dog until proven otherwise.

WAY too early 2024 power rankings 😆

1. Reitz

2. Memorial

3. North

4. Jasper

5. Mater Dei

6. Castle

7. Vincennes

8. Bosse

9. Harrison

10. Central

Pretty much a short preview, Memorial and North will definitely be up there since they return 14+ starters. Reitz does take a hit losing a lot offensively, but returns a few on defense. Jasper is Jasper. I think Mater Dei will see more improvement this season. Castle’s offense should be great again returning nearly all of their WRs and McCool. The storyline for Vincennes is who will replace Hunt, but returning Mccrary is huge for the Alices. Losing Wagner is a massive hit for Bosse, no idea who they turn to now offensively. Might be another long season for Harrison and Central.

Of course there will be more discussions over the next few months, but I think those should be a good start for now.

Returning starter percentages will be posted in a couple of weeks. And will be updated once Calpreps releases their 2024 Preview in the summer.

Had a convo about this with somebody recently. They return 4 starters on offense (QB Davies, WR Leach, OL Thomas, OL Lopez) so obviously their offense will be a huge question mark. On defense they return 5 starters (DT Friday, LB Coates, LB Cartwright, DB Burris, DB Madison) which is a good core to return but can't really expect them to be one of the top defenses in the state again. It's never easy to replace that many starters (7 on offense, 6 on defense) and expect the same or more success. They will be asking guys to step up big time and it will take some great coaching to get them ready. This may also be the type of team that loses a few games in the regular season but then gets on a roll in the playoffs once they figure some things out. Hard to tell. Looking forward to next season being more of a mystery!

I agree, Sectional 24 will be quite interesting now with Memorial currently back down in 3A. I’m guessing Reitz/Jasper will be the ones that are favored in that, since idk who BNL loses or returns. Whoever wins it could have a legit shot making it to Semi-State, since EC moved up to 5A.

Exactly. Reitz or Jasper will probably win the sectional and then be the favorite in the regional. Semi-State would probably be quite the roadblock with the winner of New Pal/Roncalli/Chatard.

Memorial should have its best team since the 2017-2019 era. It will be very interesting to see how the IHSAA sets up the 3A sectionals down here.

Mooresville and Martinsville are pretty good 4A programs who are probably both itching to see what they can do without EC standing in their way.

I believe Mooresville got pushed to sectional 22, but I’m guessing the IHSAA will do more re arranging the Sectionals and what not. But yes, the Regional matchup should be intriguing this year.

RIP to Memorial’s time in sectional 24.

13-1 with 4 sectional titles over 5 years was not a bad run.

4A postseason in 5 years:

17-4

4 Sectional Championships

2 Regional Championships

1 Semi-State Championship

1 State Championship

Not too shabby and was just a couple of plays away from playing in a second 4A State Game in 2021 in the SS

Sectional 30 will be an easy fix with most likely West Vigo sliding up to sectional 29 to replace the team that slides to 28.

The question is how much of a cluster will sectional 23 and 24 look like with EC moving up and Memorial moving down. Yes, Chatard will push someone to sectional 23 (most likely), but not a lot of options for 24

Awesome run for the Tigers in 4A. I fully expect them to have similar or better success being back in 3A. Yes I do think GS will be a tough challenge as they are expected to still be good in the foreseeable future. Looking forward to those matchups. And there are some other great programs in the 3A south. However, I would not be surprised if we see Memorial back in 4A sooner rather than later.

I wonder if there is any chance Washington could bump to 4A which would put them in sectional 24 to replace Memorial. Beyond that, I would say Chatard goes to sectional 21, which will push a team to sectional 22, which will push a team to sectional 23. Just not sure which teams.

It's also possible someplace east like Scottburg, Madison, or South Dearborn could return to 4A. (They have been that size before.)  That might push an Edgewood to 24 like BNL was last year.

Also I could see Northview coming back to 24.  Unless the IHSAA keeps the bye there.

Does Coach Goebel remain as the longest tenured head coach in the SIAC?  Or has 40+ years patrolling the sidelines as an coordinator/HC come to an end?

I would hate for an unsuccessful two point conversion against 12(!) defenders to be his last play call as a coach.

I would be shocked. If there was a time to retire it would have been after the state title in 2022.

I would say he will be coaching the sidelines once again unless you have info indicating otherwise

Just to be clear…based on the new reclassification rules and the new enrollment updates, this is what class each team will be in next season?

3A - Vincennes, Memorial, Mater Dei

4A - Jasper, Central, Reitz, Bosse, Harrison

5A - Castle, North

Besides Mater Dei (Close to the 3A/2A cut), looks correct to me. Do you know when the sectional realignments come out?

Not sure. But after the success and enrollment factors, my early guess for the sectionals involving SIAC teams would be:

The 3A "gauntlet" sectional - Heritage Hills, Memorial, Gibson Southern, Mater Dei, Southridge, Vincennes, Mt. Vernon, Princeton

---Absolutely loaded sectional. AT LEAST three of them could make a deep playoff run but only one would move on, unfortunate but fun matchups.

The 4A "Reitz or Jasper" sectional - Reitz, Jasper, Bedford, Boonville, Bosse, Central, Harrison, Washington

---This sectional seems weak at this point. Hate to assume anything, but Reitz or Jasper would probably win it and then be favored in the Regional.

Sure looks a lot more exciting than Sectional 24 aka "SIAC Redux".
