Kevin Wilson

Kevin Wilson is goin to do good things at OSU. Hopefully bring them a national championship. Then get a fresh head coach start. If and when that happens, and he gets only half the assistants back that he amassed at IU, he will have one hell of a staff. Indiana lost another main cog in their coaching ranks. The merry-go-round continues. Without any success for 40 some years now.

Not fake news. coach Wilson and athletics director Fred Glass decided that all of what was being done by the coaches over the course of Kevin Wilsons tenure, had now been determined that it wasn't what Mr Fred wanted any more. The result is what became of it. The big issue was really non existing. All the positives of the program direction down the tube , for AD's ego. And that is what I thought all along. Proof was in the pudding with Coach Wilson getting snapped up so quick, along with his high profile assistants. So round and round we go, Indiana University Football Coaches merry-go-round.  Football coaches stopover job. Not a destination job. Keeps on keepin on.

Going thru a few newspapers this morning, and I found a nice article. Coach Wilson speaking for the first time publicly, and relaying the same message that I told previously, that there was no violations"dirt" as some on here insisted , with his tenure at Indiana. He seemed to still have an emotional attachment with Bloomington and IU, and not being able to have time with his players before leaving. And at the same time, praised his previous assistants. To bad for IU. Just another bad decision by Fred Glass and the Indiana Athletics department.

So THE game is 2 weeks away.  Does anyone think there might be some revenge feelings from coach Wilson? Or do you think the pro comes out in him, and he keeps the approach as another BIG game? I know the sentiment has to be strong for his old job but as coach what a big challenge mentally. For Indiana coach Allen as well.

OSU has struggled the last couple years with the Hoosiers. While revenge may be a nice thought, the ranking in the polls outweighs it.

Irishman, you're a coach. What do you think is going thru these two coaches minds? Other than the task at hand? The pressure has to up a couple notches, because of the awkwardness of the whole situation. So is the win by either team just another win ,or is this a one way street?Nothing to lose for Indiana, nothing to gain for OHIO?

I know I am not Irishman, but here's my 2 cents.  IMHO this first game is important.  I think that IU has EVERYTHING to gain with a win and Ohio State has a LOT to lose if they don't win.  That may sound simple, but I believe it's how it would work out.  The past couple of years have been close games between these two teams.  However, I am expecting a much different outcome this year.  While I believe IU's defense is vastly improved, I believe their offense will be on the weak side this season.  They don't have that stud quarterback running the show these days.  Plus I believe they've lost Simmie Cobb at least for a while to off field issues.  Haven't heard if he's back or not.  He is one of their best WR's.  IU's kicking game is somewhat of a dumpster fire as well, not to mention they lost some good linemen to graduation.  I guess we'll see in a couple of weeks.  Gonna get there early and check out College Game Day!

Don't know if the final score will reflect, but always prefer playing a top program like Ohio State early before they begin to roll.  If they are going to be rusty, this is the time.  Plus, the Bucks play Oklahoma next game, so Urban and his staff will be working hard to keep the team's minds on the Hoosiers.

It is a trap game for OSU. First game of the year; what changes has IU made in the offseason? If they win; they should have. If IU competes, then IU fans have hope. If IU pulls off a win, it could be a problem for OSU. However, history shows time and time and time again that it is far easier to bounce back from an early season loss that a late season loss. During the off season, it is fun to get excited about returning to play a team you were once a part of, but the focus for Wilson will be completely on the task at hand. If he gets caught up in any "hype" about his return to IU, then he is letting himself be distracted. Like I said before, the national ranking will be a bigger factor for that team and their staff than any sort of "revenge" for Wilson.

When you said this, I couldn't help but think, the OSU offense will be eyeball deep in Indiana for this game. Don't you think these guys are going to rally around for their new head "O" coach?  Wilson might play this chance encounter down, as much as possible but I'm betting team captains have circled this game for their coach. Just a thought.

You may be right....just not sure how much allegiance they've built for their O coordinator yet.  Just given their record historically for IU, knowing that there may be some rust on the first game with offensive changes, and looking ahead toward the big game next with the Sooners, I thought this might be a good time as compared to later in the season to play the Bucks.  But, I may be dead wrong with my thinking.

Ha I hear ya..Im thinking there isn't any good time to play em, this year. LOL  You know, in the past with coach Wilson at the helm we've pretty much been in these big games, and for the most part we did  competed. I guess that's the only thing you can ask for with coach Allen at the helm. A chance to win. I don't know if it will be a curse, or a blessing on Indiana with all the coaching distractions.

Now that we got the game over with, all the hype put aside. I'm convinced Kevin Wilson, in the  worst way, would still like to be the Head coach at Indiana. The things he was saying about the feelings he has for the players he recruited, the closeness he had with his coaches. But, it is what it is. Too bad Glass got in his way, for him and the university.. ... But I do know Tom Allen still has a good rapport with Wilson.

BIG press conference, Urban said the offense is going to have to get more creative. Is he turning Wilson loose? Bombs away?
