Hopefully the kids carry over momentum from the big win into Warsaw this week. One game at a time.

Northridge @ Warsaw - Toss up game.  I'll take the Raiders in a closer than anticipated game.  Not sold on NR yet.  If you can't beat a team with a +6 turnover differential, you have issues.

Plymouth @ Memorial - Rockies big.  While most teams get better as the season progresses, Memorial seems to typically get worse.

Wawasee @ Northwood - Panthers big.  Panthers have a better matchup this week.  Wawasee isn't real good up front which seems to be Northwood's weakness.  Wonder if the Panthers will attempt a few PATs.

Concord @ Goshen - If Concord can't win this game, they have issues.  Goshen always plays Concord tough so I think it will be closer than some expect.  I know Goshen is getting better, but the did get shut out by the 1-3 Fairfield Falcons.  Concord by 10.

NRRaider2001 - Why do you think Goshen will beat Concord?

This one just scares me a bit, maybe because we haven't been that great against Warsaw in the past, maybe because it could easily be a trap game between Plymouth/Northwood for us.

More of a gut feeling on this one than anything, I think Goshen is definitely better than their record as well as they're playing at home.  Plus my wife is a Goshen Grad/works at Goshen so I may score a few brownie points for picking them, though to be fair, she's become a Raider 100% since being married to me and supporting my son through the youth program!

Part of me would like to see Northridge @ Concord with both being undefeated going in to their October 6th matchup in Dunlap though!

I do NOT think that the Ridge and Warsaw game is a toss up....

Northridge 34  Warsaw 14:  Northridge > Warsaw

Plymouth 49  Memorial 7:  I do not know much about Memorial's woes, but scores indicate that the game shouldn't be close.

Wawasee 13  Northwood 49:  I think the Warriors might be one of the worst defensive teams in the NLC...they have been scoring points though.

Concord 28  Goshen 14:  Goshen sounds like they've improved with a new QB, but he throws some picks this week, and the Minutemen beat them up front.

Home game, good weather, I would not be surprised we keep it close. NR clearly has a very good defense, but even with a whooping 6 turnover difference and the entire game being played on the Rockies side of the field, they really only beat the rockies by 6(NR got ball on one foot line). This is why I firmly believe NR will lose to NW and Concord, can't score with them. I see a 21 17 type game this week NR.

All other games no way close. Sorry my Redskins friend.

As has been mentioned and speaking with couple coaches, the winner of Sectional 19 is going to either one beat up team or one confident team! Winner of 19 or Lowell comes from the North is my guess. Heck East Noble isn't even listed below, nor is a very well coached CMA team.

Grid Digest Poll:

 4A    Total
1    Evans. F. J. Reitz    128    12
2    Lowell    99
3    Evans. Central    88
4    Greenwood    73
5    NorthWood    70
6    F.W. Bishop Dwenger    62
7    New Haven    60
8    East Central    57    2
9    Northridge    23
10    New Prairie    18
Others Receiving Votes:    Angola    9, Plymouth    6, Mishawaka    6, Franklin County    4, Griffith    3,
    Lebanon    2, Hobart    1, Jasper    1, Silver Creek    1

Only Close game this week, is NR winning by 7-10... Good luck to all.

I'm with you on the first three (though I think the Northridge-Warsaw game will be much lower scoring).  The last one, though...

<meme of the guy with his finger to his head> You can't throw a couple of picks if you never throw the ball! </meme>

I'm joking, of course, but nothing Goshen has done up to this point, even if we just look at the time Wesley VanHooser (the young guy) has been in at QB suggests to me that they'll throw much at all, and if they do throw, it'll be really-low-risk stuff.  Heck, he only attempted 14 passes last week and I think all but one were little hitch routes or bubble screens.  Even so, and I know YOU didn't say this, Fairfield02, but I'll maintain that anyone who thinks this Goshen team is the same team as went up against Fairfield in week 1 is sorely mistaken.  Goshen looked miles better against NW (I know the transitive property of football is silly, but Fairfield lost to NW 42-0 and Goshen lost to NW 19-10 as NW was coming off an emotional NLC loss.) and were pretty clearly better in the trenches, by my recollection, some big rushing plays on mental mistakes notwithstanding.

I've also been really impressed with VanHooser.  He's got really good instincts in the read option and can really scoot.  In the first half last week, he nearly always read the DE correctly and got good yardage out of it.  But Goshen's reticence to throw downfield meant that if they ever got behind the chains, they were in real trouble.  Knowing how solid Concord is up front, I'll be interested to see if Goshen changes up the plan to reflect both that fact and the extra week of experience VanHooser has under his belt.

None of that means Goshen will be better than Concord or equal to them up front, but I'm skeptical there.  Goshen's biggest strength is their line on both sides.  Where they're most vulnerable is in the defensive secondary, where they're really young and inexperienced.  If Concord comes out and tries to ram it down Goshen's throat at Foreman, I don't think they'll win by much, if they even win at all.  But if they can establish the passing game as a threat and force Goshen into some passing situations, it'll be tough sledding for the 'Hawks.

So after all those words, here are my picks:

Northridge 17, Warsaw 7 - Warsaw's offense hasn't looked very good so far this year, even against EM, who, I'm sad to report, has a pretty poor defense.  Warsaw scores late to make it look respectable.

Plymouth 35, Memorial 3- Yeah, this'll be ugly.  Rockies get all the bad feeling about last week out of their systems.

Northwood 35, Wawasee 14 - Northwood wins handily, but Wawasee keeps the turnovers down this time.

Goshen 21, Concord 20 - Is this a homer pick?  Yeah, kinda.  There are some striking similarities between the two teams.  Both are trying out a sophomore quarterback as varsity starter (Concord decided to do so earlier, of course).  Both have stalwart line play.  Both don't throw very much, despite having not inconsiderable talent at WR.  I haven't seen Cain play, but his numbers as a thrower really haven't been super impressive.  Of course, neither have VanHooser's.  I think this game comes down to "which team can take the other out of their comfort zone first?"  I'll give Goshen the edge at home, picking up the quality NLC win they almost had at Andrews Field last week

Just trying to back up my Falcons here.....just FYI.  Fairfield has not had the same team on the field yet since the Goshen game, due to injuries.  In the end of the Goshen game, we got banged up a little, and then again vs. Northwood we got banged up some more.  We haven't had our best 11 out there since that 1st game.....we might have everyone back this week (I honestly don't know)...if not this week, hopefully next....long story short, we're not that deep...so there is a nice drop off between our 1's and 2's.

If Goshen would somehow beat Concord...good for you (and us!), but I still think that this will be at least a 2 td game in favor of Concord.  I honestly hope I'm wrong.

I guess you would know more than me....I am only going with what I see on paper. (And I haven't seen either of these teams outside of highlights on tv)

Sagarin has NR at 61 and East Noble at 72....you saw what EN did to Warsaw.....I know there are a lot of other factors...so I'm just going with what I see on paper.

So, maybe it will be close...I just didn't think so.

Oh, certainly!  I didn't mean to denigrate Fairfield's team (and I'm sorry if I came off like that), I just wanted to substantiate my claim that Goshen looks much better now then earlier (otherwise, I sound like some fan sitting 3 rows down from the pressbox at Foreman going "WOO SLEEPING GIANT AWAKE GOSHEN BACK!").  My point was more "hey, Northwood is a solid NLC team, and they beat Fairfield, who beat us pretty soundly.  We would have to be significantly better now than we were then to manage to keep it close at Andrews."

Just to give credit where it's due, you guys outplayed us in every facet of the game in week 1 and were thoroughly the better team.  I'd have to imagine that that game served as a needed wake-up call to our guys, letting them know that they were going to have to leave it all out on the field if they want to achieve their goals this season, because getting your butt handed to you really sucks, especially when it happens against a team whose community is so close to your own.

Hope your walking wounded get better soon, too.  It's absolutely no fun to have to watch your team from the sidelines knowing that you could be out there making a difference and it's definitely best to be able to put your best 11 out on to the field and have no regrets when it's all said and done.

My thought on this is that if we get into a shootout with concord or NW I agree we probably can't score with them... but I for one thought NW concord would be a shootout when it was really a defensive game. Our defense is giving up 9 a game right now I think we have a shot at keeping NW or concord under 20 and if we do that I think we can come out on top. But we'll see! Have to just worry about Warsaw this week.

I'm with ya , we will see how the secondary is , if the NR run game can grind out some long drives that should offset the shootouts as well , that's why they play

SlickHair NLC Power Rankings after Week 4.

1. Northridge: Pretty much because Northridge fans are saying so.

2. Plymouth: Northridge fans have proven their win last week to be gigantic and deserve our respect.

3. Warsaw: Just another huge game for Northridge to add to their resume'.

4. Concord: Good win agaisnt NorthWood a couple weeks ago that lost some luster after the NorthWood/Goshen Game.

5. NorthWood: Has a chance to go 7-2 (with losses to Concord and Northridge)

6. Goshen: Would have a chance to be in the top 4 during a typical Northridge year.

7. Memorial: Uphill battle so far.

8. Wawasee: Upcliff battle so far.

Sorry Slick but it looks like most of the fans praising NR you're referring to are from schools other than Northridge......Fairfield, Goshen, Warsaw to name a few....most of the comments from our fans on here and in the stands seem to be that of an unfamiliar excitement while tempering our expectations.

Yes I must admit that we aren't as used to being on the same level as the rest of the NLC, but for the last 5 years (outside of last year) we've at least been able to finish in the top half, which is saying something for our program.

Last year I followed your Panthers all the way to Lucas Oil to support/cheer for our local team, but at the same time, it sure seems like a few people have a problem with seeing us semi successful.  Sorry we aren't all kneeling down to kiss your rings, but we are all pretty damn lucky to be in such a competitive conference/sectional.

And hell yes we're proud of our Raider boys for good reason!
