What if the officials are the ones who are obnoxious and disrespectful?  Have heard officials drop the F bomb to fans, have had one tell me it's not my fault your kids can't pass or dribble in a bball game (and in a year we won about 15 games no less!!!).  Had another tell the fans "I may be one point bad, but I am not 4" If the fans should be removed, should the officials also?

Now I agree that there are man fans that go way over the line,  but at times it is the officials.  Of course most of the times I see someone asked to leave it is the official asking for them to be removed

Of course, any official who acts in that manner should be held accountable. No double standard here. But the topic under discussion in this thread is the shortage of officials, and the reasons therefor.

From what I hear coming from the sidelines and the bleachers, there isn't any shortage of officials. :)

True,  lol.

The pay needs to be better.  No one has more money that the IHSAA so why not supplement the schools to increase the pay for officials.  Just look at the pay structure for the playoffs is a joke. Aside from the politics of getting the playoff games the pay keeps people from wanting the playoff games.

Hey, I’m in favor of anything that increases officials’ compensation. But this idea, and others I’ve seen, shows a basic misunderstanding about the relationship between schools and the IHSAA. They are the same thing. The IHSAA is funded by its tournament revenues. At the end of the fiscal year whatever the IHSAA doesn’t spend on operating costs is returned to the schools. Like a dividend. So, if the IHSAA were to use part of its operating funds to subsidize officials’ compensation, it will just have that much less to return to the schools at the end of the financial cycle. It’s just one pot of money, in the final analysis. And I doubt you’d find anyone at 9150 N. Meridian who would agree that “[n]o one has more money than the IHSAA...”
