2017 IFCA North/South Teams have been Selected

As a coach of a small school (2a) I love to see 1a,2a,3a players in that environment and go toe to toe with the "big boys" of the state and hold their own.  Just like when our QB was named the North MVP in the 2006 game, when folks were shocked he was named to the team as the QB.   Small school players get dumped on all the time in our state because of schedules, conferences and school sizes of opponents.  So when players like Jake Kiger, and many others over the years can go down to the all star game and put on a show against the states biggest players it validates them as the player alone, not the "player from a 2a school"

On top of that, in its current form, its the longest running consecutive all star game in the nation, going on 51 years this upcoming summer, why change that?

Expanding to two different all star games cheapens the game and the experience from my seat.   Its ok that good players are left out on all classes, they will survive and be productive members in society.

I am with ya Coach.   I would add that it doubles the work for those behind the scenes that deal with getting sponsorships collected and ads together in time for programs to be printed.  Probably having to find another title sponsor for a 2nd game.  Two more coaching staffs to fill.  As much of an honor as it would be to do this, it is a big commitment from a coaches point of view.  It is during the middle of the summer with most everyone having a summer program going to prepare for the upcoming fall.

Instead of big school/small school, lets do a second game for the worst players in the state. Use the same rules/restrictions as the current north/south game. Central Catholic will donate the field, and we can rent folding chairs as there are no bleachers. We won't even keep score as there is no scoreboard. I'll coax the Perry brothers into reffing and we can tap the OOB to supply the coaching (imagine the hype of a Muda69/Lebowski vs Trojan Dad/Swordfish battle!).  Players can sleep on cots in St Rochs gym like in Revenge of the Nerds and we'll hold the banquet at the local CiCi's (lately of WorldStar fame).

What say you, IFCA?

Have any players that were selected originally declined, for whatever reason ? If so , who are their replacements?

The coaches decide that when and if any players decide not to play

LCC has bleachers; however, every other screw is removed on the visitor side to make sure that they are sturdy on the home side.  Scoreboard works too as long as you don't need even numbers (those are currently still in the gym, but could be returning since basketball season is officially over).

There's no CiCi's in Lafayette anymore.  The town wasn't big enough to sustain the interest from the national chain.  Will need to have the game played on a Friday in Lent to coincide with the KofC Fish Fry if planning to feed "the multitudes."

To be clear, I was talking about Central Catholic Grade School in Indianapolis.  It is located in the shadows of Manual High.

Yeah, but then my post isn't nearly as funny ... although still applicable ... except for Cici's. :)

I know the South team's punter has decided not to play, so a replacement will be needed there.

Chase Andries, who was Mr. FOOTBALL and Top 50 as a punter is already on the squad.  A player like Sam Helm, who was a Region all star,  could definitely help the team....

When and where will the game be played this year?

Sounds like a solution then.

If a player is labeled a punter in the game, he must ONLY punt. Same goes for the kicker. Again, the rules. Chase is a QB and I would say he would rather play QB than punter.

Just found out that, due to an injury to one of the officials scheduled to work the game, I've been assigned as a substitute and will be working the back judge position. Throwing a bone to the old guy in his last go around. Very nice. Should be a lot of fun.

Might have to get you a rocking chair for your retirement farewell tour. :)

We are ready to go.  Knew since Buck was in the 3rd grade that he was going to be competing in this game today.  Have a great game Bob Ref.

Why don't we have games like the Big 33? Have 4 games against our neighbors on each border and have more players involved for more schools represented.

Cost and time come to mind first. Just the one current North South game costs about $400 per player. To have 4 games requires a LOT of time. Summers are busy enough for coaches, no one will commit to an entire month away from their own program to do this. As for the Big 33 (top players in Pennsylvania are selected to play in an all star game). Several of the college bound players in Indiana are not allowed to play in the current game because the coaches at the school they are going to will not allow them to participate.

Great game last night. Two very evenly-matched teams put on a nice show. Exciting finish. And, of course, the officiating was superb. :17:

Buck looked great at the game, Tommy. Made it look even more incredible that that kid caught him from behind. Was like he was shot out of a cannon.

Concordia University - Ann Arbor according to the game program.  Peter put up some incredible numbers his senior year for the 3A state champion Cadets   3980 yards. 52 passing TDs, 66% completion percentage and only 4 interceptions.  376 passing yards, 6 TD and 68% completion percentage in the state title game.  He is something special.  Congratlations to Peter on winning the Tyler Roth game MVP.
