I didn't realize Brebeuf (who defeated Cathedral last year) and Guerin had left the IHSAA.

I would agree 100% , nothing against Linton at all. I like their program. But they lost almost everyone from last year's team, including they're all world QB Tyler Meur (spelling)  and move up a class and are ranked #1? I don't see it at all. Ritter is not #2 in 3A either IMO, they lost some key pieces as well including Hall the 2,000 yd rusher. I get that this is all "preseason " but still, wow!

Completely agree about Linton. If they were in 1A, I would still have Linton at about 7 or 8 just because of who we lost. We might be a top 10 -15 team come sectional time, but I do not believe preseason #1 is the case at all.

In the sage words of LT in the movie waterboy "Gentlemen that brings me to my next point, Don't Smoke Crack".   No way Linton is the #1 team in 2A.  They do have some quality players returning, and Ollie is still the head coach, but #1 with Mater Dei, Scecina and Eastbrook out there.  #1, no way, top 5 is a long stretch,  top 10 that is more accurate.

Hey I love love love my Miners.. but putting up at #1 in 2a is really a head scratcher given what we've lost in terms of talent on both sides of the ball..... I love the kids.. and I know they will give it all.... not gonna ever be an easy out... but it's gonna be a tough one with the schedule much better on top of being in 2a.  Now...if this was last year's team in 2A..I might consider it...  and boy oh boy I'd love to see the '17 Miners come out and do it!!!  But it's a lot to ask!!!

The Miners will be young is some key spots... Can't replace some of the guys we lost... At the same time... The cupboard is hardly bare. There are some guys that have patiently waited for their chance to play... Mixed with some young guys who are high on talent and low on experience.  It will be an interesting year.

As for polls, who really cares. None of it matters until the postseason.

Good points.  This is why preseason polls are silly in high school.  They are based on last year and few teams are the same this year as they were last year.  Interesting but mean nothing.

I disagree.  Everyone knows that the GID is the ultimate poll that everyone waits for! :)

Two Miami county schools as honorable mentions?  Interesting.

As for 6A, putting Snider in the top 10 off the bat is (even to a diehard fanatic) a bit over the top. We haven't played teams of the caliber of the MIC in a while, and despite the conference being weaker last year than ever before, it still is the cream of the IHSAA football crop. Snider has some key players returning (Haupert, Johnson, France), but they are rebuilding still on both sides of the ball. Hopefully I am wrong, but I don't see them preforming at the level of Avon, Fishers, and HSE this year, at least not early in the season.

Couldn't disagree more. Snider is and always has been a top ten program no matter the class. However, with an enrollment of 1800 kids, their biggest challenge is Top 5 status. Carmel, Ben Davis, Warren Central, Penn, and Center Grove hold the top 5 spots in my opinion. But you're way off base to say that Snider is not of the caliber of Avon, Fishers, and HSE...................100% inaccurate. In fact, I think Snider would have challenged for 6a supremacy in 2015.

Looking at these polls (and Linton's 2017 schedule), I see Linton playing #5 Southridge (2A), #13 Sullivan (3A), #9 Monrovia (3A) and #2 Ritter (3A).  The first three games of the season are against Southridge, Sullivan, and Monrovia.  Tough start to a new season even when you don't look at any polls.  I feel the same way a lot of people do:  several head scratchers for sure and not just in 2A.  Linton may very well be a top 20 team in 2A, but I would never have put them at the top.  Not all things considered.

That being said:...........IT IS WHAT IT IS

I completely agree with you about the 2015 team (of course I do, that was my senior season lol)! But this is not 2015. It's 2017. Snider's O-Line was horrendous last year, part of the reason we lost to Westfield in Semi-State, and if they don't step up, it won't give Christian Covington a chance to fight for best running back in the state or Michael Haupert a chance to show he is just as good as Isaac Stiebling was. Isaac had the three best receivers in the state. Haupert this year will have Michael Ledo. That's it, basically, no other playmakers at the WR position. Our defense, however, absolutely will be the most dominant defense in the state on the first two levels. NO ONE will be able to run on us. So they will have to test our secondary... which, I cannot think of a single decent player back there this year. Unless our coaches can work a miracle and bring the newbies up to speed within a few weeks, we're going to be constantly burnt downfield. So in summary, we don't have a strong enough offense to consistently make drives and score, and we have a huge hole in our defense. Any Indy team will capitalize on both of those weaknesses and crush us. I simply do not think that Snider is a Top 10 6A School at this point in the year. However, they could very easily prove me wrong and show up in the top 10, maybe even top 5! Who knows? We've had stranger things happen (Snider v. Fishers, 2012). Here's to an SAC Championship and hopefully a long playoff run!
