  1. There may not be one. Contraction, lack of interest, PP’s begin to concentrate on Lacrosse, etc., etc.

  3. I assume that the "GID brass" did it for the same reason I volunteer to coach youth football, serve on youth organization boards and to work varsity games on Friday nights; they love this game and believe in its value.

  4. The mercy rule comes up for discussion at the outset of each FB season. Ohio's results showed that about approximately 1/3 of their games hit levels where the mercy rule is necessary (a certain point differential that triggers running clock except for change of possession and scores). The have over 700 schools paying football, and there are lots of lopsided scores. Many Indiana HS FB games end in lopsided scores, but the greater percentage of occurrences are in the smaller school classes. My proposal: 6A and 5A schools - no mercy rule - HCs among these schools have numerous non-starting seniors. The running clock cuts down the time available to them to get these seniors in the ballgame. These programs usually have plenty of bodies (and available quarters) for the JV, frosh and C games. 4A and below - mercy rule - lead greater than or equal to 30 points anytime in H2 results in the running clock. These programs end up using available quarters and bodies Friday night, creating a problem for the JV, frosh and C games that ensue. These class levels also have a greater amount of lopsided games. Review historical data with the naked eye in John Harrell; higher win margins, more lopsided scores, higher per-game/lower per-game offense and defense (respectively) scoring averages. On the other hand, in 6A S2 Chesterton, with its losing record, still maintained a defensive scoring average below 20 points in the regular season, not far below the other three teams who were all top ten in lowest points allowed in 6A. Then look randomly at smaller schools and specifically at Pioneer, Southridge and other small-school powerhouses. You'll see what I mean. Love to hear your thoughts. BTW don't get me started on seeding (chuckle).

  7. I literally had 10 people reach out to me asking why their log ins do not work anymore in the last 2 weeks, they will get around to signing back in. Will it ever be the same as it once was during the heyday of the Holy Wars of GID, I would say probably not, why, as I have stated, the digital world we live in has transformed message boards from the go to place to the if I want to go to place. The go to places are for information 1st has been Facebook, Twitter. Me personally speaking see ZERO issues. So lets say the forum stays at 500 members come August, then our community is 500 members, still will cost you $0.00 whether there was 500 members or 5000 members. FYI: I am a twitter fella: Have access to GID twitter account: https://twitter.com/?logout=1549488372455 8000 followers : Hmmmmmmmmm

  8. I ain't going to lie, I haven't watched a SOTU since one of Clinton's marathons, if I were forced to do so, I would most likely be asleep as well, regardless whether it's an 11 year old or Notorious RBG.

  9. This is incredibly impressive, but is it truly unexpected? I think that's the main point of the argument here. If Carmel were to split into 2 high schools, would it there really be a decrease in either of those schools competitiveness? The fact that Bradley and Davidson are still both extremely competitive is a successful example as to why this kind of thing should happen in Indiana. At least, that is how I understood it.

  11. I would hate to see this site go to a pay site. I'm happy to donate now, but I think there are a lot like me who will lurk and post only once in a while. Youth and high school football in Indiana is driven by volunteers. Yes, there are paid coaches at the high school level, but for the most part it's peanuts. Assistants, parents, players, boosters, youth coaches, etc.... none of us are in this for the money or for profit.

  12. Lots of interesting debate and valid points for the pros & cons of going to a pay site. When I first found this forum I was a lurker, and now probably more of a topic guy than a conference thread guy since there's not much ACAC content here. However I do post there and also on the SAC threads .

  13. It happens. Knew somebody that worked at Tipton and coached at Heights. Shout out to Jason Werner at No.3. Can't believe they didn't put Pat Kuntz on that list if nothing else to put up a pic of his ND mullet. That Rebel defense was absolutely ridiculous.

  14. In my opinion, the church needs to open all the windows and doors, shine a light on the whole ball of wax and move forward from there. Their current MO of running around pissing on fires only fuels the growing disgust with the organization.

  17. There are some advantages to having so many on one campus; speaking strictly of academics. These schools are able to offer a much wider variety of courses for students. The only time I ever really noticed the large class size was honestly at graduation. We had close to 800 in our class. I never felt any of my classes were overcrowded. Having friends teach in these schools now, the same can be said. It may be limiting for athletics in these schools. I have said for a LONG time and still believe that the hesitation in splitting schools, at least in Central Indiana, goes back to the time when Lawrence Township split into 2 schools. That said, the HSE split was unusual, with Fishers going to a State championship in a very short time. To me, it shows just how much talent was in HSE prior to the split. I will say it was the best decision that Fishers made.

  19. IMO HC at Jasper is a premier job in just about all their sports. Jasper football has been a dominant program in SW Indiana. Only .500 1 time dating back to 1994. Not sure any team around has been as consistent as Jasper over a long period of time.

  20. I live in the middle of Homestead country and I've heard the same thing from Homestead fans for 20 years. Meanwhile Carroll another suburban school has surpassed Homestead in my opinion.

  21. One idea we have had at our school is to try and recruit officials for all sports from within out halls. We have looked at creating a class in the PE department that will look at team sports, rules, and game play. This class will hopefully be on the schedule for next school year. One part of this class will be helping students with the skills and information needed to take and pass officiating tests to allow them to be licensed officials after they have graduated. We have a lot of students who love the sport but may not want to or be able to play at the next level. Giving them this skill and comfort level in knowing rules, situations, and how to handle situations with coaches and fans will hopefully draw a new and youthful group to officiating in all sports. The goal it to have them look at two or three sports they may be interested in to help add depth to the officiating pool.

  25. Florida Secretary of State Michael Ertel resigns after Halloween blackface photos emerge: https://www.indystar.com/story/news/2019/01/24/new-secretary-state-ertel-dressed-blackface-halloween-2005/2649161002/ So should this one admittedly bad decision, made 14 years ago, ruin Mr. Ertel's career? Is he a racist?
