  1. They’re working. The risk of serious injury in high school football is lower than ever. The game is getting safer and safer. Take this back into your communities and spread the word to the soccer moms who are keeping their kids out of youth football. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/?s=Serious+injury+risk+in+high+school

  2. shame away However Your voice counts the same as the other members not on the site's leadership team, so yes, your opinion carries the same weight as does @Muda69 @Impartial_Observer @TrojanDad @DannEllenwood insert @ XYZ members. It does not carry the same weight as https://gridirondigest.net/staff/ Not trying to be difficult, but the idea that anyone is a booster before or has been self appointed content provided gets a voice in decisions made is a fallacy to the greatest degree. But keep barking up the tree that won't result to anything more than your self serving , pat on the back mantra of importance This place will go on with or without you as seen before. And NO this is not a threat, just a reality of the situation.

  3. Here are the new rules changes. Plenty for officials to learn. By state association adoption, video review is allowed for post-season contests. No word on whether Indiana will adopt a system. Effective in the 2024 season, jersey numbers must now be a single solid collar that clearly contrasts with the body color of the jersey. A legal scrimmage formation now requires at least 5 players on the line of scrimmage with no more than 4 backs. This is intended to cure the "wingback in no-man's land" issue that has existed for years. More on this later. It is now a foul to intentionally trip the runner. The 40 second play clock which has been in use in Indiana for 2 seasons, is now the standard nationwide. The definition of a horse collar tackle has been expanded to include "grabbing the name plate area of the jersey directly below the back collar and pulling the runner to the ground." The penalty for illegally kicking or batting the ball has been reduced from 15 yds. to 10 yds. Points of emphasis this year include proper procedures for weather delays, the expanded neutral zone as it applies to run or pass options, and the free blocking zone and illegal blocking.

  5. That's exactly why I love this new league. 250K over three years isn't going to make anyone rich. HOWEVER, it will put bread on the table and the season is only 10 weeks plus the playoffs, which allows the option for a second job, education, or ample family time. What I also love about this league is that they are specifically a minor league of sorts. They're not trying to go head to head with the NFL.

  6. Thank you for sharing! I've been re-tweeting the heck out of this. The empirical evidence appears to support all of the changes. Coaches should be printing this article and including it in their parent information packets.

  7. I got this from Wikipedia, so take it for what it is worth, but the Bengals, Colts, Saints, and Titans of the NFL and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL are affiliated with the Memphis Express. GB

  8. I had hyperlinked it. I've tried several times, but it keeps getting flagged as spam so I'll attach it here as a PDF if it will let me. The ads stretch the PDF out to be around 15 pages, but I promise the reading is not that much. Indianapolis Colts 2019 Mock Draft Monday_ Feb. 11.pdf

  9. So Indy Lutheran is out? And Attica? And 2013 state champ Tri-Central? And 2018 runner-up North Vermillion? Phew ... good thing that 2018 state champ and three-time state champ, Pioneer, and seven-time state champ, LCC, have those extra 8 and 7 kids, respectively, hanging around the halls to keep them from having to throw in the towel.

  10. On behalf of broadcasters and PA announcers everywhere, THANK YOU. I've been calling for this for years in all sports. Unfortunately, I'm sure there are a few coaches out there who will try to skirt this as much as they can to make it difficult to see them on film and order uniforms with, say, navy numbers on maroon with no outline (which are almost impossible to read), but at least this gets rid of the uniforms where the numbers are nothing more than a thin outline. It's very simple. If you have a dark uniform, use white (or gold/grey if they're in your color scheme) for your home numbers. For the white jerseys, use the darkest school color you have. Gold or grey on white remain almost impossible to see (but would probably fit within the rules) without a thick black outline.

  11. There's already a definition of tripping in the rule book, since it's always been a foul to trip anyone other than the runner. And it's not vague at all. It's an intentional act that involves striking below the knee with the lower leg.
    1 point
  12. The definition of tripping is intentionally using the lower part of your leg or foot to trip an opponent. Previously the runner was excluded but now they are. It very rarely happened when it was legal so I doubt we'll see it now either.

  13. It's a horrible situation for the kids who want to play Football. Long story short, they were sold a bill of goods by a snake oil salesman and started the program before they were ready. He highlights his kid, they shops him around Indy and move on to greener pastures, presumably. Life lesson, the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence. Football ends round one. They team up with another club team and compete for a year, a non-IHSAA schedule, then move everything on campus and call it Trinity Lutheran. Schedule a mix of IHSAA member schools and non-members, with multiple players who aren't enrolled at Trinity. An unnamed by me AD from another IHSAA member school catches wind that he has an athlete attending practices and contacts the IHSAA. Football ends round two. I believe they had 7-9 players who were not enrolled at Trinity Lutheran. As stated this is an awful situation for the kids who just want to play Football. The adults have failed them miserably. I know there were some kids who transfered after the program was shut down the first time, I have no idea if any are transfering this time. I have heard that some may possibly play on a club team. In the meantime between the two shutdowns, Trinity has moved from co-ed soccer to separate boys and girls teams, I would guess this only exacerbates their situation with numbers. I'm a Football guy, I wan to see the game of Football grow and prosper, and the situation at Trinity doesn't do the game any justice. I would guess the folks who write the checks at Trinity are going to have a tough time ponying up for a part three after two failures. Just please get your ducks in a row before there's another redo with Football.

  17. Relatively disappointed with the pace of the episode until the final scene.....Totally think the captured whisperer was not being truthful, and am anxiously waiting to see the next phase of these newly discovered whisperers. Also the Negan and Judith relationship coming along is interesting to see.

  18. It was posted on Twitter. I looked for the actual proposal briefly, couldn’t find it. I’m not following, what makes you think she’s a serf or a cow? Or that a skinny, bald, 30 something would have a shot to begin with? Based on most of it, it seemed almost ridiculous enough to be true.

  19. Several years ago, HSE was considering a third high school that would be an early college-only-type school with no extracurriculars, similar to Ben Davis University. However, the students would still be eligible to play sports for either Fishers or HSE based on where they lived in the district, and the enrollments of the students at the third school in each half of the district would count toward the original schools. It was a way of reducing capacity without having to build an entirely new HS campus - a building without a fieldhouse, baseball field, football stadium, et al, is a lot cheaper.

  20. I watched quite a bit of last nights game. The league seems pretty solid. It is obvious that this is truly a "developmental" league, especially up front. The offensive line play was pretty suspect in the SD/SA game.

  21. The Alliance League will be wrapping it up before baseball gets started. I'm sure most of these athletes have been experiencing "real life" for awhile now as they obviously have not been playing pro ball. Maybe some of them are just happy playing. Sure the dream of the NFL is always there but again, this league allows them the chance to get better. The whole world isn't under contraction as you continually speak. Sounds from the t.v. stations nearly 3 million people watched the games and other streamlined. Fun to continue to watch football for those who love the game.

  23. It took years to gather the data (my newspapers.com account helped a ton) and about as long to format the info into book form. The book doesn't have a conferences section but the new edition does have it broken down by school (plus by year and by last name). If you'd like to buy a copy, here's the link: http://www.almanacsports.com/article.php?news_id=2019011801 Also, I donate 10% of all proceeds to the gridiron digest if a forum member buys and lets me know. Thanks for being a fellow football nerd 👍 Dan

  24. The book only covers first team all-state players. To add junior, 2nd team, academic, etc. would have made this already long project impossibly longer. Maybe one of these days though lol. I'll see if I can get an answer for your question though. Was there someone in particular you were curious about? Dan

  25. I think you are short changing Coach Ech's accomplishments. Admittedly, my POV is biased, but I learned a lot from Coach Ech and am greatful to the opportunities he gave me at Zionsville. Look at Coach Ech's seasons game by game. Each year we accomplished one more thing. We beat multiple teams for the first time under Ech's guidance. This year we finished 3rd in the conference behind Avon and Brownsburg. As Coach Nowlin said, consistent performance in our sectionals, but our admitted weakness was getting over the Regional hump. Also the strength gains were a huge accomplishment. No disrespect to any previous coaches before, but the strength differences to when Ech came in and where they are now are drastic. You watch us on film and we were getting pushed around, even our strongest kids. Even with undersized DL we were able to hold our own much better than before. This is a great hire for Pike, and a great opportunity for Ech. I think both the school and he won in this hire! I wish him the best of luck this season.

  27. A lot these you can just go and clear your browser cookies for that site and voila!, you have another 5-10 articles you can view. In Chrome go to Settings-->Advanced-->Content Settings-->Cookies-->See all cookies and site data. Then simply search for the site(s) cookies you want to removed and hit the "Remove All" button. In fact just did this a few minutes ago for the Lafayette Urinal & Courier, and Indianapolis Star sites.

  32. 1. Define "affordable healthcare". 2. Define "good job". 3. Elaborate on how votes cast somehow "don't count" in the current political process. 4. We can mostly agree on this. Get rid of most regulations, and by reducing the size and power of government you reduce the influence of crony capitalism. 5. Define "pay their share".

  33. 1. Agreed. We can do this by getting government out of the health care business entirely. That means medicare and medicaid. 2. So everybody can work the same job as you do? 3. You mean the candidates are effectively controlled by Corporations either before they are elected or soon after? That may be the case; see my response to your original point #4 as a solution. 5. There are different flavors of a flat tax. Which one(s) do you advocate?

  34. I fail to see how that translates to your interpretation. Try again. Or better yet, don’t.

  35. Yet you appear to want everybody to get paid at least the same amount as you. Shouldn't a job with specialized skills and/or responsibilities be valued more highly in the free market?
