  1. Just saw this article on what the Bishop Dwenger players did for their state final opponents after learning of some hardships on the Evansville Central team. https://www.courierpress.com/story/sports/high-school/2019/02/12/central-players-get-donation-fort-wayne-team-lost-state/2847410002/ Nicely done.

  2. At least it didn't turn into a contraction thread.

  3. @Muda69 Does it ever get tiring finding something to argue in every every thread? I honestly can't imagine putting that much effort to do so. Truly mind boggling.

  4. Since we're on the subject of Presidential candidate's viewpoints on weed, here is Pat Paulsen's in 1968: “I think it must be kept out of the hands of teenagers. ... It’s much too good for them!”

  5. I know. I am so ashamed. The schools and mascot should be renamed to the South Miami Wild Squirrels.

  6. What on earth does most of this discussion have to do with the NFHS universally adopting the 40 sec. play clock? If we're going to discuss the rules changes from a philosophical standpoint, I'd much rather discuss the possibility of the IHSAA implementing some form of replay for the state finals.

  10. If it does happen I hope HH can keep Southridge and South Spencer as the two non conference opponents. Only other school I would miss playing is North Posey .

  11. Lots of Football Fields have been renamed for good clips of money: Hospitals and Care Dealerships seem to be the most popular choices.

  12. From another thread, compliments of @JustRules: This change was made because under the previous rule if you only had 10 players on offense with 4 backs and 6 linemen you were guilty of an illegal formation even though you were at a disadvantage of having not enough players. This change removes that as a foul and matches the NCAA rule. What both versions are trying to prevent is lining up 10 of your players at ends or backs so they are all eligible. They included the "minimum of 5 on the line" even though that's already covered by the numbering requirement. They really didn't need to mention it here but they did and it's creating a lot of confusion. You could legally snap with 6 players if you wanted (5 lineman and a back to receive the snap). From an officiating mechanics standpoint, wings were usually counting backs anyway. As long as the R/U confirmed there were 11 players, they only had to make sure there were no more than 4 backs. If the R/U counted 10 players, then the wings would make sure there were no more than 3 backs. Now the wings don't have to worry about how many players there are on offense for this formation rule.

  14. Muda, you know absolutely nothing about WARFARE. Please stop comparing the GAME of football to WAR. Laughable at best. WCGrad92

  16. No, because it is not required field equipment under either the NF or the IHSAA rules. Still not getting your point. My observation was that virtually every school in Indiana has them, from the biggest to the smallest. So the financial "burden" is obviously not much of a burden at all.

  17. There is a competitive side. If a QB and/or coaches can see the play clock, they can better manage the pace of the game they want to play at; which could mean hurrying the pace, or slowing it down to protect a lead or keep the other team's offense off the field.

  21. I agree, my mom was in a great deal of pain in her final weeks. We were finally referred to a pain management doctor who was hesitant to prescribe anything besides the OxyCodone she was on. After some heated words from yours truly, we left with a script for Fentynal patches. Under his care, within a week he actually had to bump the dosage up. In less than a week she was in the hospital on morphine. The point being, we're clearly dealing with end of life stuff with a 78 year old woman. She's never been to a pain management doctor in her life, she's in a wheelchair, and it's not hard to tell she's suffering. Why are we forcing people like this to suffer when there are drugs to alleviate the pain. Why the hoop jumping? Why am I forced to get upset and be a jerk to the doctor to get her taken care of? Even if addiction was a potential problem, at her stage of the game, so what?

  22. Yes it is pertinent because it only seems to matter to certain individuals. I posit that the supposed "edge" you put forth is minimal, especially in a form of the game played by children. Do you have statistics proving that this "edge" has won or lost a significant amount of high football games over say, the last decade?

  24. It may obviously be a burden to the schools that don't have it. And basically unnecessary. Only to hyper-competitive individuals like yourself and others, looking for any small edge to destroy the enemy. In this case an enemy made up of children.

  25. Football is a game based on warfare. Your opponent is the enemy, for the duration of the contest. With the hierarchy of command, boot camp-style practices, playbooks, strategy and violence, football is more warlike than any other popular sport. At its core the game of football is based around either the taking or giving up of territory, just like classic warfare.

  27. Meh, again this is children playing a game. Not adults in the college game or professionals in the NFL.
