  1. This REALLY bothers me. The stance is an absolute fundamental. Imagine a Little League baseball coach not teaching the kids how to stand in the batters box. Just the ramblings of a 35 year offensive line veteran...

  2. We need to do a better job of educating our young people on drivers education.... I have seen in the past 3 months a huge increase in the number of student athletes dying in car accidents. We lost 3 young people at North Central, Then Terre Haute lost a student, then East Central and now most recently, KeShawn Smith of Bethany Christian. Admittedly, I do not know the specifics behind each accident. In North Central case, excessive speed was the issue, I read in KeShawn's case his vehicle crossed the center line. I think we need to take a long look at our drivers education process. When I was in school, you had to log hours upon hours in the car with the instructor. Nowadays, parents are just signing off on drive time hours and kids are getting behind the wheel. I had to have a discussion with a student this year while I was at NC about stopping when the school bus arms where extended - even if you are on the other side of the road. I do not know the answers... but I am saddened and sickened that we are losing so many young people behind the wheel and I am left with 100 unanswered questions in the aftermath of devastation.. Its been 6 student athlete related deaths behind the wheel in Indiana since December that I'm aware of. Players reading this forum. Please slow down, Please wait to send the text, wait to change that song on your phone, Please do not drive distracted. We love you and when we lose you, please understand a piece of us dies as well. When I was notified by Kegan's mother he has passed, I collapsed, my soul and spirit was crushed. I can honestly say that it changed me as a coach, and as a man. Speaking at his service was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I know that I never want to hang another jersey in my office of a player we lost too soon - We need to do a better job as educators, parents, and adults of helping our young people understand and respect the privileged of driving. We need to take the extra time as parents to make sure we are truly preparing our young people as they get behind the wheel. We need to do a better job...

  3. http://www.sullivan-times.com/news/article/id/31128 Congrats to Brad Hudson! Brad was approved to be the next head football coach at NC ... Brad was a valuable member of my staff while I was at NC! He will do well for the TBirds!

  5. Does it? I'm a registered Republican. I haven't paid much attention to her. I was watching the Cohen testimony and she did a fantastic job in her 5 minutes there. She's a rookie in Congress. She's not going to get her way easily at all. We better be careful though, before you know it they'll be dropping Socialists off out of a van on our street in the subdivision to come in and take all our stuff.

  6. Tri-West has only gone North one time in 1A 1991 & 1992. I vote for Chatard to go North. It will be up to the 3A committee. Hopeful there's no one from the 3A North or West Lafayette on it. Put them in the "Region" sectional. They can hop on I-65 after school and be there by kickoff. State cops can escort them before they guard the tailgate party.

  7. We have our guys come out of a two point stance on offense. We're a run-heavy spread offense. Throw it maybe 15 times a game. Inside zone, power, counter, stretch. 2 pt stance hasn't hurt our run game at all.

  8. Not really sure this move changes anything. Typically the first move for the little ones is to stand up anyway.

  9. Put the phone away. I wish the consequence for anyone under 18 who is caught texting and driving would be to lose their license for 1 year. I see it in our school parking lot every single day.

  11. We live in a rural area. My kids drove a considerable amount before they were 16, with me. I felt it was important to impart wisdom I had gained from driving for years, and not just relegate them to standard driver's ed. I grew up the same way, drove box trucks, small trailers, large trailers, etc. from the time I was probably 11-12 years old. The one thing I always tried to impart on them was focus. If you make a mistake on your homework, you get a lower grade, if you make a mistake on the athletic field, you get a seat on the bench, no big deal, but if you make a mistake on the road, it may cost you your life. That's a big price to pay. I really tried to discourage texting and driving. And the were told under no uncertain terms, drinking and driving would be the end of their driving career.

  12. My name is Jonathan Gess and I am a high school football coach in the state of Georgia at Eagle's Landing Christian Academy (ELCA). I have recently written a book about the struggle of pursuing the god of winning verse serving Jesus Christ whole heartedly. I did not write this as one that has it all figured out or am perfect, but one whose deep desire is to create a program that glorifies God but find myself struggling to not bow down this god of winning. As coaches, I think we all battle this god of winning. I wanted to share it in case anyone is interested. Thanks! 14. You are correct. But North is a much bigger step up than Princeton’s previous opponent, Wood Memorial. Whether that was by choice or not.... My point is that I don’t see Princeton being afraid of an increase in SOS.

  15. I agree, but I also think that the meme I posted has some validity; the oil barrens have so much influence in DC, they have been able to hold back a lot of the R&D as well as the ability to use alternative energy sources to their own benefit; leaning heavily on the government to do their dirty work.

  16. It's likely only 5 people actually are; as is the case with many other green forms of energy; but they pay enough to so many others that matter, it would hit them too hard in their campaigns to do anything honestly.

  17. GOP had better be careful taking the bait. They'll spend a lot of time on her and miss targeting others who might be more dangerous. Folks keep underestimating Pelosi. https://www.businessinsider.com/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-pelosi-republicans-new-boogeyman-for-2020-2019-2

  23. When I teach it to those kids, I don't over complicate it. I just teach: step, punch, RUN RUN RUN!! LOL.. Seems to work. Teach the block backwords : start them in a good run fit and practice the Run ( drive) part then work the step and punch work the step Then try the whole block...... You can work step punch on air as well. You will be amazed if you repeat the same drill several days in a row, how well they will eventually get it. Just teach the drive step and don't worry about which step to punch on at this age. just get them off the ball stepping, punching and RUNNING:)

  24. Have to agree with my friend Knight82. The odds are it's either Tri-West or Chatard heading to 28....and knowing the IHSAA my bet is on Chatard. Fixed 29.

  25. Correction: Knightstown moved to south... Wes-Del replaces them in 44. Take your pick.......either Monroe Central or Union City in 43

  27. My post above wasn't meant to say one stance is better or worse than the other. If your kids are coached up they both work fine. We communicate our play calls by using signals, and we like to change the play sometimes after the defense lines up. It's easier to do that out of a 2 pt stance, so that's what we use. I don't think it matters what size the school is, we all have to coach against dudes relative to our level, especially in the later rounds of the play-offs.

  33. That is one of the toughest calls. Looking at the map it could go either way, and I thought I would send Tri-West north with Crawfordsville/North Montgomery. We have seen the committee's propensity to lump the P/Ps together in sectionals in the past, which would argue for Chatard in 28, but from strictly a geographic perspective it is a tossup. One of them will have to go North, will be very interesting to see which one it is.

  40. I've seen a lot of football but IMO. The best programs have a great gameday environment. Heritage Hills and Brownstown would be at or near the top. Evansville Mater Dei or Reitz in the bowl is a great atmosphere. Pioneer surely has a great environment and I've heard Linton is lit on Friday nights. I would consider all of these Premier jobs because the fan bases are very good.

  41. As a Pop Warner Coach I welcome this at these levels. One of the most difficult things to get a younger player to do at that age is to get into a proper stance. Often times this is simply due to geometry of a growing body. Their bodies just aren't built to get into a proper stance. This leads to kids who either squat like a frog; or kids who get their butts up, but can't lift their heads to see what is in front of them.

  42. Bobby Cox is embarrassing as a leader. The IHSAA could have easily not granted the waiver. I agree that the bulk of the blame rests with the school and this kids parents but the IHSAA has quite a bit of culpability.

  43. My stab at 2A.
