  1. http://www.ihsaa.org/Portals/0/ihsaa/documents/news media/2018-19/062419.pdf As I correctly predicted in a previous thread, Warsaw will be in Sectional 2 for 2019 and Sectional 3 for 2020 but the one I hit the nail on the head... CARMEL will be moving to 6A SOUTH in 2020 and moving to Sectional 5! WOW - I didn't think the IHSAA would really do it, but they did!

  2. I've seen Road Atlas' in use twice in the last year. Once in a hotel lobby, the other was just last week by 2 ladies at a gas pump. It's the strangest sight. I used to purchase a new one every year and had quite a few Indiana city maps I carried with me. Along with all the Hotel books from the different chains. Now all that stuff is in my pocket.

  3. This whole thing is such a cluster. The Archbishop's decision to make this particular issue a deal-breaker for Catholic schools strikes me as very cynically calculated. Just as a matter of statistical probability, the likelihood that there are or will be any significant number of teachers in archdiocesen schools who are in same sex marriages would be small relative to the likely number of teachers in the schools who have had multiple different-sex marriages without obtaining annulments, or who are engaging in pre-marital sex and/or "living in sin" with a different sex partner/significant other. The fact that he has chosen to focus on this particular, fairly rare example of "immoral conduct" instead of the (presumably) much more common ones mentioned above suggests to me he didn't have the balls to challenge "immoral" behavior among teachers of the sort that he knows many, many students' parents and alums of Catholic schools also have engaged in or are now engaging in. He went after a fringe group to minimize (he hoped) the backlash. The Archbishop's calculation appears to be correct for the most part, since for reasons noted in the Board's letter, Cathedral's situation was akin to Roncalli's in terms of the strong leverage the archdiocese holds over it. That made this pretty much a, "Is this a hill I am willing to die defending?" decision for the Board of Directors. Not exactly a "Profiles in Courage" moment on either side. But the reaction among Cathedral alums I am seeing online -- "I won't send my kids there; they won't get anymore money from me!" -- ignores the plain fact that Cathedral (like Roncalli) didn't have the luxury to say no, like Brebeuf did, and still stay open and essentially continue to operate as it has up to now, without archdiocesan support. If they truly want to put their money where their mouths are, Cathedral's wealthy alums, instead of threatening to withdraw their financial support, should step up and offer to fund the cost to buy the school the flexibility it needs to pursue a third option: surviving for a year or two simply as a non-denominational "private school" until they can gain sponsorship from a Catholic order independent of the archdiocese, ala the situation with Brebeuf.

  4. and make the adjustment for Fort Wayne Snider to stay up in 6A. It's not just a Cathedral thing, and it is 100% the right thing. There is no sense in making a rule change and then not applying it to ALL IHSAA sports.

  5. They have to adjust 6A and 5A I think. They made a retroactive change. Long story short they made the success factor to “stay up” 2 points instead of 3 but then only had it for winter and spring sports. People got upset because they believed it favored some teams like cathedral. So they changed it to make all sports from this past year reflect the new points requirements. The only issue was that sectional assignments were already released so they have to adjust for cathedral going “back to 5A”

  6. Great article about the challenges of finding new officials and keeping the ones we get. Sometimes technology isn't a good thing. https://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/id/27000520/a-crisis-mode-all-levels-how-technology-put-officials-tough-spot Yes there is some verbal and occasional physical threats, but overall it's still a great opportunity to stay involved in the game. Please do 2 things if you read the article. First, look at your behavior at games and ask yourself if you are proud of the way you act. Are you part of the problem? Most people aren't. Second are you or anyone you know a good candidate to become an officials. Men/women, old/young, tall/short, skinny/fan, white/black/yellow/brown/red none of that matters. The men and women who officiate these games love doing it. 120 people spent an entire day Saturday at North Central listening to speakers and being taught on the field by some of the best high school, college, and NFL officials in the Midwest because they love it. Another 500 will attend shorter versions of a similar clinic in their area over the next few weeks. 800-900 will put on the stripes in mid-August as the scrimmages start. Come join in the fun!

  8. I’m not criticizing New Pal for not playing up a class, regardless of their record in their current class. The success factor is the designated solution for teams that regularly play well above their classification. So, you play in your designated class and, if you overwhelm the competition consistently, the success factor takes care of that. Cathedral is where they are supposed to be, according to the IHSAA classification system, as modified by the success factor. They cannot, IMO, legitimately be criticized for that.

  13. In every discussion I have heard, the reparations would be paid by the U.S. federal government, not by any specific individuals of any certain race (or who live in any certain area of the country, etc.). The federal government would be paying compensation to surviving relatives of people the U.S. government victimized by systematically denying them basic human rights, like the right to liberty, self-determination, etc. I am puzzled how anyone could intepret that as "racist" toward white Americans? Can you help me understand your logic in suggesting that?

  18. It’s really quite genius of the IHSAA. By putting Cathedral in 4A and Snider in 5A, we are arguing the uniform application of the ‘keep up’ rule. In the meantime no one argues the stupidity of lowering it from 3 points to 2, or even the validity of a success factor rule. Genius.

Unless the stable of Democratic candidates strongly moderate their message they probably won't beat Mr. Trump in 2020. Why are they listening to the minority radical progressive wing of their base and not the moderate majority? Perhaps the card carrying members of the Democratic party here at the GID can shed some light on this?

  22. Off the top of my head, SIAC schools have played non-conference games against Henderson Co, Daviess Co, Owensboro, OCath, Apollo, TH North and South, Princeton, Washington, Pike Central, Crawford Co, New Albany, Jasper, and Indian Creek in the first two weeks of the last few years. There are probably a few more. There should be plenty of schools looking for partners if the SIAC decides on a 9 gamer. I am slightly disappointed that there won’t be a crossover game, but I can see the argument against it. The ‘championship’ game only makes sense if the conference it evenly split or done geographically.

  23. I am. Cathedral and New Palestine are both 4A by enrollment. If New Palestine had scored two points in the last cycle, I would also feel like they should remain in 5A. They've shown they can compete there. So has Cathedral. As for telling me that I should feel the same way the IHSAA does, that's laughable. I disagree much about how the IHSAA handles itself, including this disaster of enforcing a rule change at the end of the cycle to some sports and not others. Ridiculous. You also need to look up the definition of parochial.

  24. Mishawaka was in 5A and elected to stay, when they could have dropped to 4A. And you are missing the difference between a parochial school vs a public school that operate under totally different circumstance. And how is 5A not competive for them? They failed to win a sectional half the time they have been in 5A?

  25. One other thought on this witch hunt; The strict interpretation of this mindset is that he also has to exclude non Catholics from working in these schools as well. After all, living the Catholic faith includes the obligation of attending Mass every Sunday and receiving Holy Communion.

  26. Well, perhaps folks in the past were better at wrapping their motivations in loftier-sounding words, but don't you think that most folks, from the dawn of whenever "voting" became a meaningful thing, have cast their votes based on their own self-interests? People convince themselves that they aren't just voting of out self(ish)-interest, but because what's good for them is for the "greater good". I guess I don't see Americans voting based on their perceived self-interest -- or politicians pandering to that impulse -- as a particularly new thing.

  28. Wrong. Again, I clarified that I was referring to the Tournament Success Factor Era. Only one school has elected to not move down when they had the chance. No one has elected to play up. New Palestine has played in 5A for four years (not six) due to TSF, and will for at least two more. In their four years in 5A, they have lost a state championship, won a state championship, and lost in their sectional twice. As a public school with a enrollment less than 1200, that puts them in the middle third of 4A football. If they were eligible to move down, I would advocate that they stay up, if they've been competitive in that arena. But tournament success factor takes care of that. Cathedral operates under a different set of rules than a public school. New Palestines roster in 2019 had 53 kids. Cathedral had over 90. Their schedule suggests they belong in a higher class. If you can't see that, not sure that I can help you or your sauce. I'm glad to see Cathedral stay in 5A for this cycle. It's the minimum for where they belong in the tournament.

  29. Dang dude....someone hit the booze harder than me last night and seemingly tried sleeping with a badger too 😂 talk about having a bad attitude in short for GS...yes would have liked to join SIAC...didn’t happen oh well time to move on....PAC is beefed up slightly....it not the SIAC (clearly you’re a genius because only you would understand that the SIAC is and will always be the best conference in the area) I mean you just have that next level analysis making points NOBODY HAS EVER HEARD!!! Wow. 😊 GS’s schedule is better...bottom line...have plenty of flexibility...and yes, many teams would like to play GS....because of the team is pretty good (whether you like it or not) and the fans are willing to travel by the masses....so lots of money to be made for road games. be sure to down a few more shots and get all angry at me when you go to respond to this 😂

  30. Sure, Dave. From everything, I head Gibson was only going to join the SIAC if there were four teams joining not two. Easy on the back pats Dave. They would have left their PAC brothers if Boonville would have decided to join no questions asked. But obviously, Boonville would much rather play in a conference of smaller school that will kick their a##. Dave, you have been around long enough to know that they would have cared less if they left teams hanging and joined the SIAC. GS was going to do what was in their best interest and could care less about how that effected anyone else (or left anyone hanging as you said ). They just didn't want to be the 2nd school they were all in on being the 3rd or 4th school. The article makes it seem like they were all in on joining the SIAC so why did they not apply ( 19 to 0 vote by the coaches )? If you are the AD and all your coaches vote this way you should be fired if you don't follow what ALL your coaches want. They didn't want to "arm wrestle Vincennes" I call BS on that. If they wanted in they would have applied and the SIAC would have taken them over Vincennes. They would have taken them purely off of them being closer in distance. They always only wanted to apply as the 3rd or the 4th school to join. But I'm sure the GS fans will let me know how this will be great for them. They gain several bad 3A teams to their schedule and will still average winning every conference game by 40 with Boonville on the schedule. (I give Boonville no chance based off what their Coach and AD said in the last Courier Article) Which really prepares you for the tournament, good thing Memorial isn't in their sectional for now. But they have Southport on the schedule and will be able to schedule... no good local team from southern Indiana because they are all in the SIAC now. Good luck on finding a quality opponent for your two open weeks (this is assuming Southridge wants to play a cross over game with them). But I am sure every team in Indiana would love to have GS on their schedule just ask their GID GS fans right !!!

  31. Does the regular season mean anything? I guess that’s a question for your players/coaches. I’ve haven’t met many players/coaches that Friday night didn’t mean everything. It’s high school sports. It’s hard enough to keep kids involved...now tell them they can play the regular season but there is a chance they won’t get to play in the tournament. And for a good number of teams I’m sure they would realize from day 1 they won’t be good enough to qualify. If the regular season is ever meaningless to a team then that team has competitiveness issues and character issues. We are talking about programs that will likely be one and done. So who cares? And, if they shock the world....good for them! HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS! Let’s do all we can to give the kids a chance to play. Evansville Bosse would have never qualified last season in football. But they took a 28 point lead over an undefeated Boonville team. Boonville eventually won by 7 but that game was everything that is right with “all-in!”

  32. I like “all in” for high school sports. Regardless of how the season went it’s a chance to keep playing. Kids deserve that opportunity with their high school teammates, coaches and fans. Sports end soon enough for 90% of the kids. T32 is correct. 1 small adjustment can solve a lot of problems.

  33. I feel like we are making up the rules as we go. So no teams with a losing record get in. Now that can have a losing record of they play a strong schedule. What about teams with a winning record but play a weak schedule? Do they get bumped by a team with a losing record but better schedule? You're right. This will simplify everything.

  34. If you are a member of the Caucasian race you were implicit in the evil of slavery, the plight of the American indian, placing Japanese Americans into camps during WW2, etc. , and have to pay. Reparations for blacks, American indians, Japanese, Chinese, etc. all we will be paid via increases in the federal income tax for "whites only". Seems to be simplest and most direct method, does it not?

  35. Here is a few of my thoughts 1 the bye week add In is more for the 1-4 class then for 5 and 6 who most already have a bye week the first week of the playoffs. So the more think about this instead add 2 weeks just add one 1-4 purts in a bye week 5 and 6 add a game. 2 I use to think seeding would be a good thing and get ride of the blind draw. but the more I think about It. I feel if you want to add more mean to the regaler season then they should do away with whole idea of “neutral field”. The Ihsaa can still do their blind draw but home field would go the better team and let them treat it like a home game with all the fanfare that goes along with it

  39. And how exactly at the end of the day is the majority of U.S. federal government spending funded? I guess those receiving reparation payments would in effect getting part of their paid federal income taxes back, assuming they had taxable income. "Free" money! And why should the descendants of citizens from non-slave owning states be forced to pay for reparations via their federal income taxes? No, this whole reparations "discussion" is a ploy by democrats to ensure that African Americans keep voting Democrat. After all, African Americans are no longer the largest racial minority in the U.S.A, Hispanic/Latino Americans are.

  42. No, it is not a novel notion. Wealth redistribution seems to now be one of the primary functions of the federal government, something I don't recall being enumerated in the U.S. Constitution. And why is this particular case more offensive? Because it is basically yet another political stunt designed to give some class of people "free stuff" in exchange for their votes.
