  2. Coaches are coaches, teachers, fathers, husbands first. A lot of demands on them.

  3. I'm the white hat and crew chief on my crew and still have yet to receive the above mentioned email via the IHSAA or football chair of the two associations of which I belong.

  4. My only qualm about the MWC currently is that the majority of the schools in that conference have major issues with very low numbers. Some of those programs are only a few unfortunate injuries from canceling their seasons or canceling a game or two, plus the 1A schools in the MWC have got to be consolidation risks. I guess it's a risk worth taking though from a competitive standpoint. It just amazes me how fortunate Pioneer has been lately with the talent of some of their programs, despite having an enrollment of 270ish. Pioneer had state finals appearances in three sports last year alone. It's crazy because a lot of the surrounding 1A schools struggle to even compete in many sports.

  5. Love when these topics become about one or two teams. How about North Knox, Mt. Vernon, Southridge, North, and Reitz? Nobody would have had NK near this list 4 weeks ago. MtV replaces Mr. Everything Sam Thomas and looks better. Southridge loses a great Senior class and one of the best athletes in the state gives up football and they keep rolling along. What a great Job Coach Paridean is doing at North, those kids and families have clearly bought into his program!!! Reitz? Reitz!! What is going on on the hill?!

  6. One from NE Indiana that does really nice job and deserves to be mentioned. Mike Mosser from Adams Central always has good teams and AC probably would have at least one more state title if Pioneer hadn't been so dominant.

  7. We had a running clock in this game, so the coach is already in trouble;) The play had 0 impact on the game, but more to my point, this is why film is so valuable to us. We had two of these plays in the game that were not covered, one was worse than the other. This spurred conversation among the crew how do we get this covered. I realize most people think we just meet up before the game and go wing it, but there is a fair amount of preparation that goes into it. Our goal every Friday night is to be the best team on the field, I didn't think we were very sharp Friday night, working hard towards this week. I doubt anyone in the stands knew we were there Friday, but you know as an official when you walk off the field, we just weren't sharp.

  10. According to the 19-20 classifications, enrollments are: Caston - 211, Culver - 239, Triton - 270, Pioneer - 288, NJSP - 331, Winamac - 376, LaVille - 386, Knox - 571 It seems Caston is experiencing exactly what Culver and Triton were feeling in the old NSC (related to football). It was difficult to compete year in and year out. Pretty hard to build excitement for the program when you get trounced 5-6 times a year! Personally I would love to see Bremen (509) replace Caston in the conference. The Lions would bring excellent competition in almost every boys and girls sport!

  11. I believe the 1st offense is sitting 20% of the season (which I'm not sure how they calculate when it applies to other extra-curricular activities). I can't remember if 2nd offense is 1 year or 1 season. 3rd offense is death by honey and fire ants. The policy is stupid because it is not applied consistently across all schools in the conference. Plus, kid who does nothing at at school can't be punished because there is nothing to take away.

  12. Those 12-15 Memorial teams also all had losing records, and had played GS to within one TD for 2/3 years. 3 year memory? I haven’t forgotten that Memorial has gone to LOS 4 out of the last 11 years, how many times has GS made that trip? It’s funny how GS fans are the first to call someone out about having short-term memory, but forget they were irrelevant until 2012.

  13. I'm going to go with Kurt Tippmann. You don't hear his name thrown out there much outside of northeast Indiana (at least I don't) but he's in season 11 as a head coach (all at Snider) and has a 110-24 record. Of all the current coaches out there that have coached 10+ years, only four have won 80% of their games or more (Tippmann, Reed May of Brownstown Central, Brian Moore of Parke Heritage, and Cory Yeoman of Penn). Tippmann's Snider Panthers are in the third toughest conference in the state and he's one of three head coaches that have knocked off a Kyle Ralph-led New Palestine squad. Add in a 2015 5A state title and he's at the top of my list. Hard to deny what he's done.

  16. I've always admired the job Ryan Good does at Attica. 11 seasons without a losing record. At a school that small, you would expect a drop off at some point.

  17. https://mises.org/wire/walmarts-healthcare-experiment-has-begun-it-may-be-game-changer Working in partnership with wellness organizations, the Health Center will offer specialized community health resources, online education, and in-center workshops to educate the community about preventive health and wellness. You know what a service is going to cost before you sign in. .... To make room for all this, the Supercenter has reduced the number of checkout lines from 20 to 7. All of them are open, unlike the old Supercenter, which had maybe four or five open at any time. The store has added 26 self-checkout lines. I asked how many square feet this new addition is. I was told 10,000. Big. This is one-stop shopping. Are you sick? Go to Walmart. What if you get well? Go to Walmart. Sign up for an exercise program. Want a check-up? Go to Walmart. Sick pet? Go to Walmart. And, as long as you're there anyway, walk inside and buy something. It's convenient. There are 26 self-checkout lines. Selling health care services is going to get extra foot traffic into the store. My associate John Livingston grasped the strategy at once: "Amazon can't compete against this." .... 2. A Left-Hand Turn Alternatively, if I turn to the left on the highway and drive approximately 2.6 miles, I arrive at a five-year-old medical center. It is a major hospital: five stories high, plus a large ER wing on a sixth level downstairs on the back side. Because of the prices charged for services, this facility caters to people with high-end health insurance policies and Medicare. I was treated for stage III prostate cancer for two years. My PSA score peaked at 77 when I arrived. Any score above 7 is worrisome. It is now down to 0.2. This is good news. I received good care. But I did not pay for it. Medicare-based health insurance paid my bills. Without insurance, few people could afford the treatments, which ran $5,626 per daily radiation session (20 minutes) for two months, plus $947 each week for a consultation: a blood pressure test by a nurse and a brief chat with the oncologist. I had a fainting spell in late May. I had been on medication, Albuterol, that I had to inhale daily for 10 days to deal with pneumonia. I had been diagnosed at a local walk-in clinic. On the day after I ceased the treatments, I fainted. This had not happened before. My wife drove me to a different walk-in clinic to get an assessment. The first one was not yet open. I was told that I could not get an appointment for about six hours. My wife started to drive me home, but when I fainted in the seat, I agreed to be taken to the ER at the hospital. That was around 10 AM. They got me in very fast, since my blood pressure was quite low. I was in an ER bed for several hours. My wife and I both told the ER nurses and physicians about the Albuterol. I was given two different tests involving large scanning machines. Then they assigned me to an overnight room upstairs. The nurses began taking lots of blood tests. This testing lasted all day and all night. I got to talk with a heart specialist about 3 PM the next day. He said I was probably OK. He offered no explanation for my fainting spells. Everything had tested normal. He said I could leave in an hour. They took one last blood test. I was released around 4 PM. Total time in the hospital: about 30 hours. My insurance company was billed $29,653.20 — plus $156 for an EKG. I was sent a copy of the bill. Had this bill been sent to me to pay, I might have gone into cardiac arrest. I would have had to be taken by ambulance back to the hospital. If it happens again, I'm going to Walmart Health. Conclusion Here we see two rival strategies to marketing healthcare services. Walmart's strategy is based on price competition. Patients know what services will cost before they walk into the physician's office. Prices are rock-bottom. This directly benefits patients, who will come again. Word will get out. In contrast, the hospital's strategy is based on billing insurance companies for services whose prices are not revealed to patients in advance. Patients have no economic incentive to seek lower-cost services elsewhere. These two strategies reflect different organizational legal structures. Walmart is a profit-seeking corporation. Profit-seeking enterprises whose business plans seek a growing market, as Walmart's business plan always has, are forced by price-sensitive consumers to compete by cutting costs and then lowering prices. In contrast, the hospital is a non-profit enterprise. By law, non-profit enterprises have no owners. Employees may not profit directly from innovations that lead to higher profits. In non-profits, everyone is salaried. There is therefore far less incentive to cut costs and reduce prices. I hope Walmart's experiment proves to be profitable. If it does, more people without health insurance who live in poor rural areas will be able to afford basic medical care. Today, they just cannot afford non-profit medical care. It costs too much I hope Walmart is successful as well. A more market based approach to basic healthcare.

  19. I read it as they can’t override it being implemented. It’s absolutely stupid if it’s 41-0 in the 1st q and the losing coach asks for a running clock and we don’t give it to them. Another nonsense application of a rule that shouldn’t be that difficult

  20. Come out and watch 7th thru 9th grade teams play. Lol. Freshmen class best group I’ve seen in years at Memorial and 7th grade just as good. Future is extremely bright in cake-eaterville. Funny thing....last year was supposed to be the last year of relevance.

  23. [complete, 100% sarcasm] If this were a Cathedral or Penn thread: Why didn’t Gibson Southern petition the IHSAA to play 4A against Memorial? Scared?? [end sarcasm] I’m really curious to see how North stacks up with Mater Dei. MD has Lannert playing defense who might be able prevent McKinney from breaking a big run. Speed galore. Completely agree that Coach P has North going in the right way. And just in time, as I could see them going 6A next classification cycle.

  24. Gibson Southern left the PAC in 1979 when the Big Eight Conference was formed.....perhaps driven by Coach Jewell's success and the promise of a highly competitive conference... then dropping enrollment (well down into 2A) drove the move back in 1994 only made worse by the loss of the Emge packing plant in 1999 (400 layoffs). I wasn't in the fold in those days but I am sure there were real or perceived competitive reasons as well.

  25. I have long contended it will take a visionary to transform our current system. Amazon also comes to mind with regards to changing the game with their acquisition of pharma companies and dabbling in insurance. This may not be the answer, but it's a step in the right direction while all the also rans are clamoring for Medi-Care for all.

  28. It would be interesting to know if there is another sectional or two which compare to those in 3A: #s 28 and 32. I know there have been tough sectionals in the past where the #1 and #2 might be in the same, but am not sure I have seen the top heavy load of these two within one class. In some regards it makes the win that much sweeter when the challenge is that much greater (perceived). Lots of football to go and who knows how it will end up, but it sure is looking like a potential blood bath coming up. Every player should want and welcome that challenge!

  33. I live 15 minutes away & decided to catch this interesting game between a 3A powerhouse & a 6A program on the upswing. It was a really entertaining game-- big plays & hard hitting by both sides. Southport made a bunch of fantastic big plays in the passing game on critical 3rd & 4th downs which led to their victory. GS absolutely held their own against the big school & showed they have lots of talent too. It was hot...the Cardinals led by 2 scores...I wanted to beat traffic...so I left before the late hit/flags/ejections. Wouldn't have known about any of that if it wasn't for the forum.

  34. Thank you Cappy! I said after we played North that they will cause problems for some teams in the SIAC this year. They are much improved, tougher, and playing more as a team than in recent years. Coach P clearly has them buying in to the system. That is a good thing for the SIAC. I think they will get MD this Friday. I think Reitz will get things headed in the right direction by tournament time. Don't know much about NK, MtV or the Ridge. Doesn't surprise me that Buening has SR rolling. I like that guy a lot.

  36. That’s pretty cool! I didn’t hear about that. I think this game has been overshadowed by 1 moment at the end of the game that left a sour taste in most people’s mouths...but all in all the game was a great one and Southport is a great program.

  37. Me too. I also watched Chatard v. Cathedral. Without the QB Southport will be in deep, deep trouble. With the QB they might have only been in deep trouble.

  39. I think you need to jump on to ISC and watch a replay of the WL-Jeff game. 6A against 3A. 1st game of the season. Two ranked teams in their class. Athletes all over the field. Despite the score, great defense played by both teams. Eight point differential for the final score. How is this a bad loss?

  40. 3A looks accurate. The 1 vote for #1 of Mish Marian is cute though. Sectional 28 and Sectional 32 are brutal....7 of the top 10 in those two alone Whoever survives those two sectionals are definitely favorites to make it to LOS..but favorites or not they still have to play the game and win. There are definitely teams outside of the 2 sectionals wanting to fight for that bone and will look to play spoiler
