  1. Back in my day, we didn't have Sectionals.

  2. Clarksville had a 45 game losing streak heading into this season. Went 3-6, won last 2, and scored 62 last night against North Harrison (most since week 8 2003). Progress can be made

  3. Tied the scoring record tonight @ Delta (which seems appropriate). Congrats to a great kid, a great family, and a great teammate. Proud that my son got to share the field and these moments with him.

  4. My understanding is that a Pekin left 30 minutes after Friday nights final game and has hired Indiana Jones, 100 pack mules and several guides for the trip. Even then, they may never be seen again.

  5. Another incredibly uninformed, throw-a-dumb-idea-against-the-wall take from Driven Dakich. First off, there have been dominant teams in the HHC in the past - Delta & Mt. Vernon in the late 1990s/early 2000s, most notably. While some of the conference teams have been on down cycles, Pendleton Heights, Mt. Vernon and Delta are all trending toward being at that level of being teams who could make a deep run. The HHC sponsors 20 sports. There are dominant teams in a few of them. Should Yorktown & New Castle be kicked out because of their volleyball prowess? Delta has won 20+ tennis titles in the conference. Should they be kicked out, too? The bottom line is, the Hoosier Heritage Conference is a solid group of eight schools who are geographically compact and roughly the same size. One could argue the football team isn't even the most dominant team at New Palestine, given the softball team has won six state championships since 2004. Over time, as HoosierFB_JG noted, Mt. Vernon, New Palestine and Pendleton Heights could significantly outgrow the more rural schools in the conference and that might cause some realignment. Greenfield-Central will experience some growth, but probably not to the level of those three, who are closer to the growth explosion in Indy and Fishers/Noblesville. But that's not happening anytime soon. New Palestine is a member in good standing in the HHC, which has more sports than football, and has state championship-level teams in several of them (the HHC had *four* IHSAA championship teams last year - New Castle & Yorktown volleyball, New Palestine football & softball ... and Yorktown was the state runner-up to NP in softball).

  6. Although my Rebels couldn’t pull it out last night, they did come back from being way down only to lose in OT. Young team, good things will come their way...

  9. It is actually 6 quarters per week. 2019 is the first year for this as it was 5 quarters per week prior to this season.

  10. Meanwhile back at the game, IU picks up a needed road win. One more win and they should go bowling. Allen has a luxury having 2 starting qb's on the team.

  16. In high school offsides is always blown dead on all plays. There are no "free plays" like in the pros. You can decline offsides but you don't have an option to take the play as it was ran because there was no play. Declining offsides means there would have been a rekick with no half the distance to the goal enforcement.

  17. That was on display tonight. The score looks like they handled AT easily, and they mainly did, however; they are vulnerable in the secondary. Tech was far and away out-sized tonight and that, plus the Jeff offense, kept Tech from ever really being close to even thinking that they had a chance. Nonetheless, Jeff imploded on the opening drive coughing up the ball on Tech's 17 and then, in the closing minute of the 1st half, turned the ball over on a pickoff at the line of scrimmage. Tech also stopped Jeff's offense inside the Tech 30 on a 4th and four. Jeff's kicking game also saw a missed PAT from the 1/2 yard line after two Tech penalties in a row on the PAT and at least four kickoffs that were kicked out of bounds for penalties. Toss in a breakaway run up the middle and it's a good thing that Jeff wasn't playing Merrillville tonight. A couple of unsportsmanlike penalties and personal fouls tossed in and a sideline warning and there are a mix of items that should give pause/concern. They might have been looking ahead to next week, but they've got to get things ironed out this week or they are going to get the rug pulled out from under them.

  20. Columbus East has had an excellent Fall Sports season. HHC Champs in : Boys Soccer (won regional tonight) Girls Soccer (lost in sec champ) Volleyball (Sectional champs tonight) Football Baseball will be extremely good again this year, will be pre season #1 or #2. Ready for football sectionals now, but have to wait 2 weeks for 6A to start.

  21. They don't need to leave the HHC because more sports than football exist and the best fit for the majority of New Pal's student athletes is competing in the HHC. They have been on a very good run on the football field in recent years, and I agree it is not in their best interests to play football games against HHC opponents based off scores since Kyle Ralph has been there. However, Mt. Vernon, Delta, Pendleton, Yorktown scores vs New Pal are lopsided but no worse than what a Warren Central or Carmel has done in recent years in the MIC. The other schools are the issue...they have zero chance to be competitive versus a program like Ralph has built. Can't penalize New Pal student-athletes for playing the schedule in front of them. And these things go in trends....New Pal will likely continue to be an upper-tier 4A/5A program...playing in a conference comprised of 1 3A school and 6 4A schools (GC is right on the line I think). If they choose to seek a different conference, then that is their decision, but I don't think they should be forced out by any means...to suggest as much is simply illogical.

  24. Its really not an issue of running up a score on someone. It’s more to the point of why play your starters against someone else’s backups? I know first hand how exciting it is for the kids that are JV regulars to say they scored on another teams varsity, but why? What’s the point?

  25. I'm glad that not everybody shares your opinion. You seem to cherish Indiana high school football teams with 20+ long losing streaks. How does that make the overall sport better?

  26. I just can't believe we are discussing running up the score in a game with a 26 point difference.

  28. SF.. they are about 600 students less than the next smallest 6A school lol.. CE joins Cathedral as the only other school to bump up 2 classes due to success factor.. They have fallen from where they began, but still 187th nationally isn’t bad,. CG - CE games have been lowing scoring the last 2 times they played. I expect the same this game as well.

  29. Competitive balance is the NFL, where every team is around .500+/- and bores the hell out of me.

  30. So 2 weeks on this thread. Over/under 5 pages. BTW, Pickerington Central is ranked #17 in Ohio, #187 nationally. Keep this game low scoring (in the teens) if you want to win. If CG score 20+ it will be hard to overcome.

  34. I have to go with the same picks as MuleDriver. Southport - For me, a no-brainer. Columbus North - CN is the better team. Cathedral - Again the better team. Plainfield or DC - Either one of these teams should beat TH North. Bloomington North - MuleDriver's comments about the changing districts in town reminds of a joke I use to say about how at the current pace, South's campus would be in North's school district and it's just about true now. We can thank a very liberal school board which is using the changes to get what they believe is social economic diversity at the schools. Anyway, North should win this game. Bloomington South - Evansville North had a pretty good regular season, but with the long bus ride to Bloomington, I will go with the home school.

  35. I don’t know if you were there but I saw a lot of good things with South last night. Chatard is a very opportunistic team. They tend to score on breakdowns of the other team (if that makes any sense). I think they are, at core, a lot better team than that final score might seem to indicate. I wish them well going forward. As to No. 1 in 3A, I think there are 4-5 teams that win on any given day in 3A. It’s been a solid class for the last 3 years or so with at least 3-4 teams that would give the best teams trouble whatever their class. Chatard has had some atypical big fails in playoffs the last few years with some really good teams....not necessarily saying Championship teams but really close to that. Certainly they have been far better teams than what they demonstrated in the playoff games they lost these last 3-4 years. We’ll see if they can get back on playoff track starting next week against highly ranked Brebeuf.

  36. Charlie is an excellent player but New Pal has been very strong for the last seven years. What you fail to understand is their climb to a powerhouse position came at the time Kyle Ralph took control of the football program. Did you ever consider that coaching may have been a major part in the success of the program. Are they to be penalized or forced to leave their conference because he may be a step above his counterparts. In addition, should the players be forced to leave because they 100% bought into the program dedicating endless hours of hard work in the weight room and during the off season when conditioning is critical to a successful program. Here is a novel idea. If you don't like the manner in which your competition is beating you on a yearly basis, then get better. Get into the weight room, hire a tremendous coach like New Pal did and see if your programs changes in a positive manner.

  37. The rule is very clear. A player must be replaced for a down, unless the halftime or an overtime intermission occurs if: “The helmet comes completely off during the down or subsequent dead-ball action related to the down without being directly attributable to a foul by an opponent.” Only explanation I can come up with, without seeing the play, is that the helmet only partially came off, and the player took it off the rest of the way to make some sort of adjustment before putting it back on. But that’s just a guess.

  38. Cass is too SR dominated to allow for a 'letdown' doesn't mean that Pioneer couldn't win, but won't be because of any sort of let down when your best players are seniors.

  44. Statistically, it will happen. I don't think using statistical anomalies will boost the idea that some school corporations should cut the support, which is exactly what he is advocating for, indirectly or in this case directly. Shame. We are on a platform that aims to support Indiana HS football programs and their supporters. Mudas dissent is worrisome. My father always told me that you shouldn't complain unless you have a better alternative. Not sure what his is.?
