  1. Chris, you are being a little hard on him. We all know that with 10k-15k a year in Indiana for tuition at a P&P by default the "quality" of student-athlete is generally going to be "higher", for lack of a better word, than the equivalent sized public. Take for example a GS or HH who probably has some of the lowest free and assisted lunch in the state by percentage of the student body in 3A for publics. Even with that, GS and HH simply won't have the same number of quality student-athletes walking the halls as their p&p counterparts by the percentage of enrollment (with the exception of some generational aboratinon). Anyone who denies that is simply hiding their head in the sand. I can tell you that we have kids at GS who are only there because they have a pulse and the law says that they have to be (and we have much less than most other publics our size). Again, "generally", folks who can make the sacrifice to send their kids to a P&P have certain qualities in common that I don't need to list here that are both "natured" and "nurtured" into their kids. Does this quality "stock" always result in a strong tradition in any sport? Certainly not, however, when the key variables are in place, the same variables that it takes to have success at a public in a given sport...ie, community, youth league, parent support, coaching etc., those variables are multiplied by a factor "x" across a deeper bench so to speak. As I have mentioned before, as a case study in the SIAC, Memorial vs Castle. This P&P typically runs head to head with its public rival in terms of conference championships boys and girls. This would indicate both schools have a similar bench depth across a wide variety of sports, boys, and girls. Castle enrollment 1965, Memorial enrollment 609. Castle isn't exactly a district of struggling families. Some pretty easy math even for a public educated kid can see the disparity here in the ratio there of total enrollment to quality student-athlete. You see this all over the state. What does it mean? Does Memorial have better coaches? Do memorial kids have a better work ethic? Is it that the early poor immigrant Catholics into Southwestern Indiana were blue-collared people that instilled an incredible physical culture and work ethic over generations significantly impacting their ability to succeed in girls soccer? There clearly are some public representatives on the GID that are advocates of "everything is fine" or perhaps that are even against the success factor. Many of those seem to fall into one of a few buckets: Those who have advanced in the state tournament over a p&p at some point in school history or public's that are geographically aligned in such a way that they get quality imports or perhaps in such a way that P&Ps aren't an issue in their path. There will always be a subset with a certain machismo or the "put your head down and go to work" mentality that simply won't admit the above paradigm is simply a fact. That is the nature of our sport and I wouldn't' change that for the world. Those folks know it's true but the "football guy" in them simply won't let admit that there are certain inherent advantages. Reasonable, intelligent men and women can't debate on if a solution is necessary, if the one we have is adequate or if additional measures are needed at all. I simply can't wrap my head around how any reasonable person on either side of these arguments can say P&Ps and public are equitably measured by enrollment alone. Just simply say....sure they have advantages...but I don't care...I like the challenge. That I can accept.

  3. I dont post much on here only been on here since August. I have a kid that plays for Mooresville. I have never told him about this forum cause his job is to get ready to play and not read much into what is being said . Needless to say we were sitting at dinner lastnight and all of us were talking he looks at me and said dad have you ever heard of the football digest . Me yeah the indiana gridiron digest why? He chuckles and said him and some teammates were reading some of the post and said by the looks of it we r down 7 when we get off the bus and nobody has won on a Friday night at this Enlow stadium. All I said was be the first. Thought it was funny how even players get on here.

  4. It was 1991. Sectional championship. The middle of the field was solid ice. Valpo led 19-6 at the half and was "comfortably" ahead 26-6 in the third quarter. But after Valpo's TD to go up by 20, the Cavemen held them to only 1 first down for the rest of the game. The punt return occurred with 1:41 remaining in the third quarter - and yes @WolvesOnTheProwl, it was Mammolenti. He slipped and slid and at one point did a 360 spin, but somehow kept his feet and ran it back for a 64 yard touchdown. Mishawaka went for 2 and failed, making the score 26-12. After a Valpo punt, Mishawaka did use the pass because their running game was going nowhere. The Cavemen scored on an 11 play drive (5 passes). The touchdown was a 10 yard pass. After another Valpo punt, Mishawaka needed only 3 plays (2 passes) to go 30 yards to the Vikings 35 yard line where Mammolenti broke free for the touchdown run to tie the game at 26. Mishawaka made the PAT and went ahead 27-26 with 2:30 remaining. Valpo had one last chance but Mishawaka intercepted a pass at the Valpo 30 and ran out the clock. The Cavemen went on to defeat Crown Point in the regional, 14-7. They lost to Penn in the semi-state game.

  5. I feel like 8 of the 10 pages have been talking about geography more than football. And if you do the math that’s “at least 75%” of the thread.

  10. P74, love the passion for your Patriots. I think both teams are in for a battle this Saturday. The Bone is no joke, gave EC fits when Hondaburg ran it. But this comment right here

  11. No way you can compare the Pocket to the EIAC! Not even close! K9 agrees that HH would have one loss if they played the mighty red and black. Our neighbors to the East will show those Pats what multi dimensional really looks like. They'll have the Cheetahs running wild and family reunions in the endzone! The boney bone is ancient, and not that hard to handle. Just ask the boys at Hondaturd who were told to bring their offense into the 21st century. HH better hope they have Bo Jackson and Eric Dickerson, cuz that's their only chance. But the good news is, everyone's welcome at Connie's...even the losers. Bring plenty of singles fellas cuz the Clown will buy your drinks, but he won't pay for lap dances!!

  13. Eastside at Eastbrook--Eastside throws the ball well. Eastbrook has a history of having troubles defending the pass, however this year's team is better at getting to the QB than previous years. Eastside is the lone survivor out of the Northeast Corner Conference. Eastbrook has the stronger schedule. This year's Eastbrook team is a little different than past years and many have experience playing this deep into the tournament. I am going with the experience as Eastbrook wins this one. East Noble at Mississinewa--East Noble is ranked #1 Coach's Poll and #2 in AP. Mississinewa is ranked #5 in AP and #9 in Coach's. This game is going to be a very close game. East Noble has a good run defense, but at the same time so did Delta and Marion. Cade Campbell was able to gain over 500 yards in these 2 games while is brother Carson had over 200 in the two games. Mississinewa still hasn't had to do a lot of passing. Delta was a favorite to win State according to Sagarin rankings and Mississinewa knocked them out. Mississinewa has the #4 offense and defense in 4A while East Noble has the #8 offense and defense in 4A. In the end Mississinewa wins this one and advances to Semi-State for the second time in school history. Eastside and East Noble are not that far apart and it is interesting that Mississinewa and Eastbrook are both at home again this week. It is going to be a cold night so be sure to bundle up. Mississinewa and Eastbrook might have to borrow equipment to clear snow from the field this week. Would be nice to see both CIC teams advance to the next round. If Mississinewa and Eastbrook both make it the State Finals they will play on Saturday with Eastbrook at Noon and Mississinewa follows. Would be nice to see Mississinewa fans come early and cheer on Eastbrook and Eastbrook fans stay and root on Mississinewa. Then when they both win have a nice big parade back to Grant County.

  16. In their first game of the season, the Knights traveled 1 1/2 hours to Plymouth and had a slow start but came alive in the second quarter. Their trip to play Mississinewa is a little over 1 1/2 hours. The weather for Friday night looks to be a little chilly but clear with little wind, and this doesn't help the Indians. Mississinewa would prefer this game to be played in crappy conditions to limit the Knights passing game. As long as East Noble can get off the bus and get their offense moving from the opening kickoff, I see them winning 35-14.

  17. ART. 3 . . . After the ball is marked ready for play, and until the ball is kicked, the following formation requirements must be met: a. No player, other than the kicker and the holder for a place kick, may be beyond his free-kick line ...” The kicker may be beyond the free kick line when he kicks the ball. This is something I would suggest you address with the crew in the pregame conference, to make sure everyone is on the same page.

  18. I should have worded the question better asking how the three compare to WL and not are they better. Your definitely right on Andrean being the only team that has played a schedule tougher than Lewis Cass left. You could make the case for Eastbrook's early schedule but their conference opponents other than Miss, not impressive.

  19. Agreed, I have 0 confidence on what may happen Friday night other than it will be 2 very good, well coached teams playing and I'll be very cold in the stands.

  20. Dwenger reminds me of those teams that my dad used to drag me to watch in the 1970s or 1980s. I was bored to death. Then boom, they pull some %&$* out and they are fun to watch. What if their OC was at Luers? 🙂

  21. @dmizers3 I wouldn't pay much attention to it. First post by that screen name, and same with the "cathedral poster" with a prediction on the previous page. Probably accounts created yesterday. These big game threads always tend to mysteriously get new screen names with first time posters that like to stir things up. It gets some going sometimes, but when you step back it can look comical. Any rate most of us know who the regular posters for each team are. Then throw in the GID bookie @Olympian06 and always gets a good wager on a big game for a donation to the GID and I love it! lol FYI I actually really like New Pal's nickname of the Dragons. It is unique nickname that not many schools have!

  28. Going with Webo. The improvement at HC is really very impressive (and they are ostensibly members of the CCC although they only play Guerin) and the Scecina win surprised me but I still have to go with the defending champs.

  29. I will. Gotta pick up a buddy then we will be there. I'm sure we will have to fight the other 36 people that will be in the stands. Thanx for the advice Lol no one ever asked not even the HC. If you would like to know the reason you can send me a message and I'll explain.

  35. IHSAA has been doing it for 30 years. In the 90s, it was Chatard, Roncalli, and Cathedral in the same sectional. Most of those years, the sectional winner won the state or at least made it to the championship game. If there is a chance to get the P/Ps in the same sectional, the IHSAA will certainly get it done.

  39. Kind of a less happening playoff thread than past years so I’ll stir the pot a little bit. I’ve got Chatard BIG. The golden eagles have played both and I like the Trojans style of play. Chatard has had a running clock the second half of nearly every game this year (exception is those cathedral guys) and I believe this is the best chatard team we have possibly ever seen. The running back reminds me of another shorter workhorse they had back in 2012. Hartley has gotta be a chatard legend. I digress, but I’ve made my point before here in this thread. The O-Line is spectacular, great receivers, great backs, a qb who is deceiving, and linebackers and safeties that will hit somebody and come back for more the next play. I can’t wait for this matchup and as a neutral, I hope for a close game. I struggle to see it going this way. To the boys from West Lafayette, go play the best that you can and try to prove people like me wrong. To the boys from chatard, play the physical ball you’ve played all season, but dont get complacent. Get better this week. Complacency and overconfidence kills teams in the playoffs.

  40. Can’t agree more. Chatard has always had strength on the line and there’s another Solomon coming through the ranks. Seems like every few years there’s another one burying DEs all over the state. Also want to congratulate WL on a hard fought win tonight. What a game. Guerin did just as I predicted, controlling the pace of the game. Just wasn’t enough. Having seen both teams play my Golden Eagles now, I like chatard next week.

  41. Since this is Indiana and the format is locked and loaded for this year... Sectional 28 will have several great games. Personally, the first game for Chatard should be one of the best opening games in the state next. The first game of the season between these two really doesn't matter as both teams are much more developed and playing at a higher level. Too bad that the top 3A teams who could win state are going to winnow down to just one sole survivor. I believe the sectional 28 winner will win state

  42. I think one of the reasons many of the coaches and administrators support the unseeded all-in tournament is the chance you'll draw another weak team in the first round if you are having a bad season. There are a handful of matchups early in the first round where both teams have 2 or fewer wins after 8 weeks. They are ecstatic because now they have a chance for a tournament win. But is that really a great accomplishment? One of them will advance while someone from Brebeuf or Chatard or Cass or Pioneer will be turning in their gear. It's one thing if you get upset in the first round and have to go through that. The format does ultimately crown a champion, but the means to get there is very flawed in many ways.
