  1. considering 95% of the "drama" and "reports" stems from that section of the website that truly serves no purpose, @DK_Barons pulled the plug on it which I fully support. It truly has turned into a personal political playground for about 7-10 users and continue to go around and around and then it goes too far and lots of energy is used to to moderate that section that serves no purpose to our sport of Football. Coach Tim Adams original foresight into that section was a place where you could put on blast your favorite sports teams and players and to a lesser extent a place where folks could banter with @dawgieinthepound back in the day. Those days are long gone and now its just pure stupidity from my seat. Do not have to agree with my sentiment about it, but I personally have had enough of that section going on 4 + years, which is sad because it could of be utilized as a nice section to promote new ideas, pop culture, show/book/etc recommendations, express different Hobbies and such. Instead its a non stop FACEBOOK lite where everyone gets all twisted up and non stop political garbage spews... rinse repeat. That is my answer. I did not tell DK to hit the eject button, but I made my stance clear on what I thought about the section, however, I am just 1 lone voice. The fact that I have spent any energy on this even right now is tiresome to me, but I did feel the need to at least give @Muda69 my thoughts on it. Bottom line: Our website sole purpose was created for the promotion of Indiana High School Football, its players, coaches, communities that participate in it.

  2. I’m curious with Central Catholic missing so many starters, will Tipton put an asterisk next to the score on the headstone in the grave yard? I believe they should!

  3. I wondered in there probably 2-3 months ago and participated for a few weeks I think. Got old pretty quick from the left vs right jabs, so I decided to cease and desist.

  5. They sure did. Up three scores and no timeouts from the opposition, if I'm not mistaken. Unlike on Friday. There would be no flak from me if they would have chosen to run another play at the end, either. Would have hardly been "running it up" in a 17 point high school football game. Is this the hill you've chosen to die on? If so, its not very high.

  6. As the offensive coordinator at Tipton, the thought of taking a knee never crossed my mind! I have a ton of respect for LCC and their ability to score quickly. We were on edge every time they had the ball. It was not brought up until my father showed up on Saturday evening for a cook out and mentioned that the channel 40 folks were talking about it. I have a great relationship with Coach Nay. There is a ton of mutual respect between our programs. I texted him immediately once I heard folks were making it a big deal to make sure he was not upset. He was not. I think we can put this to bed!

  7. They definitely should! The asterisk explanation at the bottom will probably read: "LCC was down 4 starting positions. Tipton was down 5 starting positions. The final score was almost exactly what Sagarin predicted it would be." 😉 Would be cool to play LCC again. Coach Nay and his program are highly regarded in Tipton County.

  8. It would seem only fitting that Central Catholic and Tipton play in the Week 9 crossover. Let’s settle this dispute on the field. Tipton varsity vs Central Catholic’s varsity.

  9. Not like it was a blow out game. It was a two score game with a excellent LCC team. You never know what could happen. The kid who scored is a senior backup. These are not professional athletes. We are living on a week to week dealio right now with COVID and the kid who scored is a senior and with injuries and dang contact tracing/COVID, you never know when your last week will be. Just let these players enjoy the chances they get when every game could be your last game forever. (since many won't play after high school)

  10. That’s not lawyer-speak. It’s “white hat-speak.” 😉

  11. Let me try to explain this without lawyer-speak. 😎 K can legally touch the ball if it has touched the ground and traveled 10 yards OR has touched a receiving team player.
    2 points
  12. A loose ball is airborne until it touches the ground. Once it has done so, it is considered grounded. The point is, the distinction between an airborne free kick and a grounded free kick becomes meaningless once a member of the receiving team touches the kick.

  13. It's always nice to go unbeaten, but leaving Lucas Oil Stadium with the hardware on Thanksgiving weekend is what it's all about. Only six teams finish the season with a win.

  14. This may be specific to 4A and below but after closely watching area programs over the past 10 years it seems to me that what you are in middle school is what you'll be in HS. Success breeds success. If you're winning in middle school kids want to be a part of that ... so they stick with it and... those who aren't playing start to play. Area kids who aren't winning want to be a part of that so when 9th grade rolls around ... and if they have a choice... they migrate. I've seen coaching changes hurt a program. But i can't think of situation where a coaching change has turned a bottom dweller into a solid program in less than 3 years (enough time to turn 8th graders into Juniors). If i'm wrong please site an example. If not, it would seem... 1. Coaches should be looking primarily at the MS level when they take over a program. 2. if your program is solid you better be investing heavily in youth and MS or you won't be solid for long. 3. Winning is important in MS. I'm not saying it is the same as HS, but, you still have to play to win the game.

  20. I never assumed a conspiracy and couldn't really care less, but some advance notification would have been nice especially to those of us who have been on this board since 2006 and donate regularly. I'm sure there were some members of the OOB clan who would be high maintenance, as I'm sure exists on the football forums as well. My connection to the GID was made unnecessary after my youngest graduated in 2014, but I remained since the OOB existed and I enjoyed the political banter, as well as it gave me a connection to my local HS football conference, which I still step into now and then to contribute. In conclusion, I don't feel the need to "sell" you on anything so I won't. If you can't find a reason to keep the OOB, so be it. But if you would like to keep ole SF around and donating every year, then you will need to "sell" me on why I need to contribute to the GID anymore without the OOB. If not, no harm, no foul, I can easily redirect the double donation I gave this year to someone closer to home just as easy and pop into the NLC thread from time to time for free...... As I said - (IMHO) it is only an opinion since I am not privy to the innerworkings of the GID, nor do I want to be.

  21. Laville has definitely had their share of injuries.. I hope they do score, I just don't see it happening... Those Knox backers are legit and will fly around. I would bet Laville has less than 75 yards rushing.

  24. I peruse the list of topics and am most pleased: insights on the the Hoosier Conference, HNAC, Hoosier Hills Conference, MIC, Northeastern part of our great state, PAC, WRC, and many other leagues. I also like info on great players, polls, although hype pieces on certain schools leave much to be desired. With all that going on, why even bother with that OOB nonsense? I’d be very remiss if I didn’t mention the Region, lots of great tradition you here...

  25. I agree with your worries. To give you some context. East had a D end with 17 tackles but the other three lineman didn’t combine for that many. One linebacker with 18 tackles and then the safeties had 29 between the two of them. Have to get stops much closer to the line of scrimmage. East has always had the philosophy of don’t make a big mistake and challenge teams to make long drives and be mistake free to score. Your point about NA not doing that is illustrative of that philosophy. That being said, time of possession and keeping the defense fresh will be big keys to East’s plan while they must convert third downs consistently on offense to sustain drives.

  26. Huntington North at Dekalb - Over/Under for total passing plays in the game is 6. Dekalbs going to get much better between last week and this week. Rust is knocked off. HN game with EN wasn't as close as it looked and now, even that doesn't look as good as it did a few weeks ago. Dekalb 19 HN 7 Leo at Bellmont - 42-0 Leo New Haven at Columbia City - CC is overrated. NH got stung out of the gate against Norwell and never recovered. Am thinking they'll come to play Friday. NH 28 CC 24 Norwell at East Noble - EN offense isn't what it has been. Norwell defense always shows up... but will the offense? Taking the Knights 17-14 In the battle of the "Knights" i should clarify... Norwell 17-14

  27. They have more depth than any IU team has had. Playing the gauntlet early is a plus. Rutgers and MD are wins. MSU and PU are probable. PSU has escaped IU the last 2 years and will be looking ahead to OSU when they come to Bloomington. 4-5 or 5-4 is a likely scenario.

  29. Luers is not very good. Northrop should beat Luers easily. North Sides D is proving to get worse and worse every week. on the others. 1. Dwenger is easily the best team in the SAC. I don’t think Homestead is within 14 points if Devon Tippmann wasn’t out that game. 2. Carroll will beat Homestead. 3. Homestead is getting better. More specifically, Ormsby. If he continues to improve, it can open things up more for Hartwick. If that happens, they could(still don’t think it will happen) beat Carroll. 4. Concordia. Their D is very good. They have 2 DBs that are All Sac at least on Grossman and Vanderbosch. The games lost were without starting QB and Center which caused MAJOR problems. Look for them to play the Saints better than expected. 5. North Side. They may be lower but for now, this is the spot. 6. Northrop. If you look into the numbers, the D has played well against everyone. The O has let them down. However, they have the athletes to do it. 7. Snider. Because of coaching, they are here. The youth is getting better but a well coached Senior laden team will be too much for them which was the case against Homestead last week. 8. Luers. They are actually getting better. The only issue is they are not deep enough to beat most teams. 9. South Side. Only because they beat Wayne. Although I think big they play again, Wayne wins by 2 scores. 10. Wayne. They will get better each year Haydock is in charge. They are also better than their record. But for now, this is where they belong.

  31. Week 5 Picks BNL (2-3) at Terre Haute South (1-4): This one could go either way. The Braves have been smoked in all four of their losses but they have a solid win over their rival, Terre Haute North (2-3), who lost by seven to Bloomington South and by three to Bloomington North. The Stars have two wins but they’re Jennings County and Madison. I’ll take Terre Haute South. Connersville (1-2) at Jennings County (0-5): The Spartans got their first win since 2017 on Saturday night when they easily defeated a winless Rushville team. As luck would have it, they get another winless team to play and this one might be worse. Not much more to say here. Connersville beats the Panthers easily on homecoming night (Is that still a thing this year?) in North Vernon. Mitchell (1-2) at Madison (1-4): The Bluejackets had a bye last week so they’ll have had two weeks to prepare for Madison come Friday. Nevertheless, their one win was against an Eastern Greene team whose only win came against a winless Springs Valley team. Meanwhile, the Cubs have some offense. Aside from the shutout loss to Seymour, they’ve put up at least 26 points in every game. Madison is my pick. New Albany (3-2) at Bloomington North (3-2): Unlike the Cougars, New Albany has a win against Bloomington South this season. However, that seems to be an anomaly as the Bulldogs haven’t looked too impressive since then and Bloomington South has gone on to win their next four games. As for Bloomington North, they’ve stomped their opponents in wins against BNL and the 5A Terre Haute schools. I’m picking the Cougars. Seymour (3-2) at Brownstown Central (3-1): I’d have a much easier time picking this game if the Braves hadn’t been upset by a 3-2 Salem team in week 3. On the flip side, you have a Seymour team that has looked impressive in three straight wins after opening the season 0-2. They’ve gotten things figured out. However, this will be the first time Coach Moore has played Brownstown and their unique offense. If he has the answers to it in just his first game against them then I’ll be shocked. The Braves get the W. Columbus East (3-2) at Floyd Central (4-1): Saved this one for last. The Olympians have won 92 straight conference games as well as 103 straight games against conference opponents when including postseason play. I was a senior at East the last time they lost a game against an HHC team. The program turned around in 2004 and I was at the game for their week 2 win at Columbus North. When it happened, I felt like we had something special. We began HHC play against Seymour the next week and from that game on, I’ve never felt like East was going to lose a conference game (even when they lost at BNL in 2006). Have I been nervous going into games at times? Yes, but I always figured East would find a way to win. I say all of that to say this. I’m picking the Highlanders to beat East. Might get killed for saying it but I’m saying it. Other than the win at Columbus North in week 2, I haven’t been that impressed with my team. Offensively, Floyd Central is a less-talented Elkhart team and we really struggled against their two-dimensional offense. Defensively, I thought we did a great job controlling the line of scrimmage against North but I was completely underwhelmed last Friday when New Albany ran all over us. If they didn’t keep stabbing themselves in the foot in the red zone then it would’ve been a closer game. That’s the key against Floyd Central. If our defensive line can’t get any penetration, plug the holes, and get pressure on the QB then we’re sunk. Based on what I saw last week and against a two-dimensional offense like Elkhart’s, I have almost no confidence. Maybe Coach Gaddis pulls something out of his hat like he has done with tough opponents in the past and has the boys prepared. However, I’m not going off of what we’ve done in past seasons. I’m going off of this season.

  32. You need to be given an excuse for not kneeling in a two score ball game where the team on defense had two timeouts in their pocket? I recall LCC being up two scores against Tipton 6 or 7 years ago with 3 or 4 minutes left in the ballgame and Tipton ending up winning so you can appreciate the sentiment that its not over until its over. If Tipton takes a knee and Nay uses his timeouts and gets the ball back, then the game changes, especially against a team like LCC that throws the ball downfield. If the roles were reversed and LCC was up 13 points in the waning minutes, I would fully expect them to punch it in from the 5. This is silliness, but I'm getting the vibe that you know that.

  33. If that was the case then he would have left the starter in to score instead of putting a backup in. Also if you would have looked further at Max Preps you would have seen that he got those rushing yards in the 4th quarter of blown out wins. Tipton and LCC were missing the same amount of starters. Difference is Tipton was down an All State player, Lcc was not.

  34. I think this has the makings of a really good game and completely agree with 1 and 2 above. If Jasper can play disciplined defense and avoid giving up too many big plays, they will have a fighting chance. The game I saw them play makes me believe they can do that. I was impressed with how they flock to the ball and their secondary tackled well. Another thing that could impact the game is how often or early the officials flag Jasper for false starts. In the game I watched, Jasper looked to false start several times that were not called. In the 4th quarter of that game, the officials finally called a couple of false starts for the same thing they had been doing for the first 3 quarters. If they had been flagged earlier, it could have had an impact on multiple Jasper drives. There's a big difference between 2nd and 5 or 1st and 15, or 3rd and 3 or 3rd and 8.

  36. All good rules questions that, fortunately, have clear cut answers. Hard to say whether the kickers could have let the ball hit the ground and still recovered it. The ball’s not round, so it bounces funny. Thinking about the play, I’m not sure whether the players were actually coached to try and catch the ball on the fly or not. The crew initially threw the flag and, as soon as that happened, the kickers sent their defense on to the field, so I assume their coaches knew that they weren’t going to be able to keep the ball. As to the other questions, keep in mind the basic rule: The kickers can legally touch a free kick untouched by the receivers only after it has both gone 10 yds. and touched the ground. These requirements can be satisfied in any order. “Airborne” simply means the ball has not yet touched the ground. Once the kick does so, it is considered to be “grounded,” not “airborne.” But whether the kick has been grounded or is still airborne, it can be recovered (but not advanced) by the kickers if it has been touched first by the receivers.

  38. I don’t think they beat 06 Warren or 01 Ben Davis. Just an opinion. Pretty sure both those teams finished the season top 10, if not too 5 nationally. The amount of high D1 caliber kids on that 06 Warren team was staggering. The evolution of the game + size and strength of kids these days makes it impossible to compare teams from different eras.

  39. Needless to say, the IHSAA frowns on such things. I would not be surprised to hear some discipline was imposed. Ironically, I suppose he was the one who read the mandatory IHSAA pregame announcement about sportsmanship and respect for the officials over the PA.
