  2. Agreed. When Turkey Run was fighting to keep their program alive, the posts were about how proud we all were of the kids giving it their best. If you look at enrollment and roster, playing the games right now is a win. County officials and School Board gave them no help by going the route with most quarantine risk. (Not a statement about masks or COVID, just risk management on athletes staying in school to be eligible.) Cheap shots take no guts. Most every program in the conference have had their lean years too. Current players practice hard and do their best, respect them for loving the game enough to come out.

  8. Private donors???? Is that another way of saying Illuminati, the pope, secret private school recruiters, or even Russia? A lot of people on this site know these mysterious funds come from one of the above.

  9. Takes place in Monroe on Friday. Both teams come in with OOC losses. AC fell to Eastside by 2 in week 2 while SA was beaten by Monroe Central last week. The Jets have looked pretty good since the loss, but 2 of the last 3 wins came from playing rebuilding teams. South Adams has suffered key injuries during the season. I believe AC should win this game, but it's a rivalry. Each team knows the others strengths and weaknesses. I'm excited for a great atmosphere to watch in person. Like many I have family from both sides, but I'm a Jet and that is where my allegiance is this week.

  12. Nothing but respect for Attica Coaches and players doing their best to keep their football program alive. Also, the way they play, they don’t look like a team that dressed 15. Their level of play is much better.

  14. I would agree with most of what @Prospect provided. 6A - Warsaw proved last year they could beat and compete with Carroll and Homestead. I would say Carroll is more improved this year than last, and Homestead has a heck of a squad. It helps being in a 3-team sectional this year with the weird rules that were in place thanks to Covid as Snider dropped to 5A, so if all Warsaw has to do is win 1 game (at home) for a sectional championship? That helps. However, facing a Regional opponent of whoever wins Sectional 4 (Westfield, HSE, Fishers, or Noblesville)... I would be surprised to see the Tigers get any further than that. 5A - If Mishawaka had their senior QB 100% healthy, I think they could/would have the best chance in Sectional 10, but Concord and Michigan City would be tough opponents. Then the winner of that sectional would likely face Valparaiso in the Regional, and then likely either Dwenger, Snider, Zionsville, or Harrison (WL) in the Semi-State... tough sledding no matter what team win Sectional 10. 4A - Honestly no NLC team has a shot IMO, especially with Northridge's injuries that have been sustained and from what I saw this past Friday night against Warsaw. Sectional 19 might be the best sectional in class 4A and has an arguement across the state really. Leo and East Noble are without a doubt head and shoulders above the rest, while Columbia City and Angola are no slouches. My honest opinion? Mishawaka has the best opportunity to at least win a Sectional Championship this year, but it will be tough to come by. Beating Valpo in the Regional? I doubt it. As well, like I mentioned, if Warsaw only has to win a single game to be a Sectional Champion, that keeps them in the conversation. But I would not see them competing with any team from Sectional 4 with the exception of Noblesville... but the Millers are not winning that thing.

  15. Michigan City will be a tough out in sectional 10 which has both Mishawaka and Concord. Warsaw can beat Carroll and Homestead. The issue that might run into with both of these teams is that if they fall behind they can have a hard time getting back into the game. Last year Warsaw was the more physical team against Carroll and it showed. Northridge seems to have been hit with the injury bug, but they will be competing in Sectional 19 with East Noble and Leo. A ton of people are looking ahead to a rematch between Leo and EN, but Northridge showed last year that they are capable of beating either of those teams. I'm sure @NLCTigerFan07 can provide a better breakdown, but from the outside looking in this is how I see it.

  21. It wasn't that long ago that Center Grove had a very small Visitors bleachers (only a few years from renovation that increased Visitor seating). Prior to the renovation CG was a 6A school with visitor seating comparable to that of some 3A schools. It always has been a beautiful facility was lacking Visitor bleachers until renovation. Only point is the game shall go on, what matters is the 2 teams playing and the playing surface (field) albeit Natural grass will be more than adequate.

  23. Oh I don’t blame you for taking the high road but the results on the field speak for themselves. Not saying it’s fair, but plenty of “first-rate human beings who care deeply for their players” end up on the chopping block. It is just a game played by children, however which is sometimes hard to keep in mind.

  24. Agree but I think these rankings have a lot more to do with the overall W-L record than anything else. But at the end of the day, once you get into these huge metropolitan regions like Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, LA, Dade/Broward Co FL/etc that are all huge football cities, they tend to beat up on each other as the season goes. Plus you have all the East Coast prep schools that are D1 factories and then of course schools like IMG.

  27. I see your point, to an extent, by I think it is an issue tied to culture. The default that most people grow up with in sports is that "the older, more experienced guy gets the nod." On the teams that I coached, I always made clear, and it became known with parents and players that the guys that started were the ones that produced and gave consistent effort in that production. Every once in a while, I'd get a kid's parent, who moved in and didn't know the philosophy, who'd corner me after the a game and ask me why his kid wasn't starting even though he was in a higher grade. For the most part though, the kids and parents knew that, while everyone was going to get a chance to play, productivity was what determined how long. If a coach is constantly saying, from Day 1, "I don't care how big you are or fast you are or how old you are, but it's a question of what you DO with that," then I don't think anyone gets caught by surprise or feels cheated. On the other hand, if he lets the expectations go unspoken, then I think he's likely, and rightly so, to see folks get upset if seniority is passed over. I appreciate a coach who, on the first day of practices or before, tells the team "Not everyone is going to play and, if you want to up that playing time, you need to step up your game. I will work with anyone who is serious about improving to see how to get you to that level of more playing time."

  28. I'm not so sure. I've heard the IHSAA is not going to give out Sectional trophies this year, but instead "Top 48 Sagarin" trophies at the end of week 10. I could be mistaken though. 😄

  31. Yes, she is a friend of my son. At school, the call her the "Lebron James of HS Softball" because of all the HS attention she is getting. Top ranked So. in the nation last year and no reason for that to change. I think all of this underclassmen talk comes down to a question if they can physcially compete. Are they built like FR or upperclassmen? The Roncalli kid who started at QB was 6'2" and 200 lbs. The FR DT who started was 6'1" and 270lbs. I have seen the weight lifting videos from Roncalli's twitter of the young lady who pitches for Roncalli and she can physically compete with any older girl.

  34. I copied this message from facebook. Amy Hess Tempel is with Paul Tempel. 8tliShoe · Family and friends, I am sure by now most of you are aware that a member of our small community was injured in a farming accident on Saturday that involved a combine. Blake, the 17-year-old son of Ben and Valerie (Tempel) Duttlinger, sustained serious injury to his left leg after becoming caught up in the machine while working on the family farm. He was transported via LifeFlight to the hospital where he immediately underwent surgery. Blake is currently hospitalized and will remain so for the foreseeable future. He underwent another surgery today and is scheduled for additional surgeries over the coming week. As you can imagine, he and his family have a long, difficult road ahead. The family is continuing to travel back and forth from their home here in Spencer County to the hospital in Evansville to be at Blake’s bedside. The Tempel/Duttlinger family has diligently served our community in countless ways for decades. They are the first in line to help others, especially in their hour of need. I believe we, as a community, now have the opportunity to step up and help them in their hour of need. At this time, we can ease their burden by: First and foremost…Offering prayers for everyone involved - Blake, his parents, his brother, his extended family, and every single person who has had or will have the opportunity to provide care, whether it be medical or spiritual. We should also be mindful of teammates, coaches, and other students who have been emotionally impacted. Blake is a junior at Heritage Hills High School where he is a dedicated member of both the Patriot Wrestling and Football teams. Second…Assisting the family with gas and meal expenses as they travel back and forth so they can remain at Blake’s side. To ensure the entirety of every donation is received by the family, the following methods for donation are being utilized: 1. Cash 2. Checks* (can be written directly to the family OR to me, Amy Tempel, with the designation “The Duttlinger’s” in the memo line) 3. VenMo to @Amy-Tempel-1 *Checks can be mailed to: Amy Tempel, Re: The Duttlingers, 3805 E CR 2000 N, Dale, IN 47523 Names of individuals, but NOT amount donated, will be provided to the family UNLESS you specifically ask to remain anonymous. Third, a “meal train” sign up will be coordinated upon Blake’s homecoming. Plans will be made as that date becomes available. Finally, please be on the lookout for fundraising events being planned in our community. I will do my best to share each of those with you as plans are finalized. If you have questions, information, or ideas about how we can help the family, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me! Thank you in advance for all of the love and support I know you will give The Duttlinger’s. Much love and appreciation, Amy Tempel 812-455-6601 P.S. - Please feel free to share with anyone you think would appreciate the opportunity to bless the family!
