  1. How did you go from NFL football to youth football. Do you have any youth data to back up the doctor's claims? How do you know that rugby style tackling isn't already being taught at the youth levels? BTW, this study published by the NIH says something very different about rugby risks. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26786902/ Results: The overall injury rate was 4.9/1000 AEs in football versus 15.2/1000 AEs in rugby: IRR = 3.1 (95% CI, 2.3-4.2). Game injury rates were higher than practice injury rates: IRR = 6.5 (95% CI, 4.5-9.3) in football and IRR = 5.1 (95% CI, 3.0-8.6) in rugby. Injury rates for the shoulder, wrist/hand, and lower leg and for sprains, fractures, and contusions in rugby were >4 times as high as those in football (all P ≤ 0.006). Concussion rates were 1.0/1000 AEs in football versus 2.5/1000 AEs in rugby. Most injuries occurred via direct player contact, especially during games. The rate of season-ending injuries (>3 months of time loss) was 0.8/1000 AEs in football versus 1.0/1000 AEs in rugby: IRR = 1.3 (95% CI, 0.4-3.4). Conclusion: Overall injury rates were substantially higher in collegiate rugby compared with football. Similarities between sports were observed in the most common injury types (sprains and concussions), locations (lower extremity and head), and mechanisms (direct player contact). Upper extremity injuries were more common in rugby, and the rate of season-ending injuries was similar between sports.

  2. Was the original post out of a time warp? Most, if not all, teams in the IEFA teach the rugby style of tackling made famous by the Seattle Seahawks. I assume that's what foxbat is referring to as Hawk tackling. We've been teaching it league-wide for 4-5 years.

  3. I drive through western Boone county and the Dover area quite frequently (in my sticker free 2005 Dodge Caravan, btw) The sprawl is coming. Every day Lebanon becomes more and more just a bedroom community for the Indy metro urban sprawl. How is your Outback with the "wag more, bark less", "life is good", and "Feel the Bern" stickers doing?

  4. I'd vote out any team that doesn't want to be in my conference but that is just using your conference as a fall back in case something else doesn't work out...like getting into another conference.

  5. You need to get in your Prius with Bernie stickers and drive through the Webos area and find the sprawl. I swear to God you do

  6. Rushville and Connersville don't fit and never have. Was a dumb decision to bring them in. East Central would benefit from being independent but I don't ever see that happening.

  7. https://deadspin.com/youth-football-needs-to-start-embracing-rugby-more-adam-1848378608 Agreed. And as an aside while at a doctor's appointment a couple of days ago the doctor and I were chatting about the NFL. Doctor makes the comment "I think the NFL will be gone in next 5-15 years due to all the concussion lawsuits piling up". He then added: "My spouse and I refuse to let our children play tackle football. Too dangerous."

  11. Yes, I was referring to Hawk tackling rooted in the Seattle tackling regimen initiated there with Pete Carroll ... although Carroll was utilizing the early elements of the style back when he was at USC.

  12. There are already youth programs that teach Hawk tackling which is tied to rugby style tackling.

  13. You don’t like dogs either? That explains everything! Life is good stickers go on Jeeps, state law. I haven’t felt a good bern since my last time with Angel Skinners. And Outbacks are great cars made with Hoosiers pride but I don’t have one.

  14. Would you want Jennings County and Madison in place of Rushville and Connersville? I believe both Madison and the former North Vernon High School were once part of the conference. JC and Madison both seem to be a better fit for the EIAC these days than they do (or, in Madison’s case, did) the HHC.

  15. I have not heard anything about this from any WIC folks that I know. I would assume they try and get in to the PAC.

  16. I'd disagree with the equal part. Over the last 10 seasons, East Noble is 85-28, consistently competing for conference and sectional championships and a winning record every season. Granted, it was in 4A and in the Northeast 8/Hoosier conference, but during that same time frame, Chesterton has gone 54-51 overall, only 5 winning seasons and most years not competeing for a DAC championship. Again, I won't argue that 6A and the DAC are a step up in competition and skew Chesterton's "potential" and if you swapped the two teams situations who knows what it could look like. This is mostly my point and I think you agree, so I'm sorry for beating a dead horse. Would the Panthers prefer scheduling another 5A or 6A school from Indy or the Region? Sure absolutely. But I think adding East Noble to their schedule is a VERY SOLID pick up and is a benefit for Snider. Personally I'm excited to see this matchup.

  17. I think I am in agreement. As for football, if a 9-game conference schedule doesn't get you ready for the tournament, nothing will. Most other sports would be super competitive (taking out perennial swimming and tennis for Carmel). I'm not sure what sport CG excels in besides football.

  20. Sagamore Conference! A conference is made up of more than football. But taking only football into account. I think that Southmont would be better off in the Wabash River Conference and Frankfort in the Hoosier East.

  22. I’ve been watching all the armchair officials on the internet commenting something like this: ”The whistle had no impact on the play, but still, a rule’s a rule so the TD shouldn’t have counted.” This is often followed by demands that all or some of the officials involved should be fired, or tarred and feathered, or prosecuted for obvious corruption, etc. Please save us from “rule book” officials.

  23. Who said it was a step back? I don't recall anyone saying that. I do recall a couple of posters saying they were surprised. I don't think anyone was expecting a 4a school. But hey, I'm sure the Snider staff knows what they are doing.

  24. East Noble, under the leadership of Coach Amstutz, absolutely knows that this is a GREAT opportunity to prepare them for the juggernaut that the NE8 has/will be for seasons to come. For those that think this is a 'step back' for Snider....PULEEZE! East Noble is formidable is every way! I would suspect that other NE8 schools will choose to play SAC schools in the 2 'free weeks' and we can see cross-conference rivalries flourish in NE Indiana.

  25. I know this will come as a complete shock to you....SW Indiana doesn't want our need to schedule "Indy" schools. It's not our charter to help elevate the play of that part of the state. We also don't need the Indy media. We kind of have a really good "pocket" (no pun intended) of football going down here. Go talk to the Region guys...LOL.

  27. Nope, but being a pharmaceutical company, they want to keep treatments within their realm, so they oppose any alternatives.

  28. East Central, Connersville and Rushville from the EIAC. All for different reasons, but all three of these teams would likely be better served in different conferences. East Central may benefit from being independent, better competition available to them, and ability to keep existing rivalries (Lburg, SD, Harrison OH)
