  1. Nah, not to my knowledge. I just have to LOL at the way this story is being framed by @BDGiant93 and local media sources which is honestly a deflection from the truth. The MIC schools got hurt feelings and were getting their brains beat out in nearly every sport and garnered support by playing the victim card. In the environment which we live in 2022, its a way of life for so many...and it works more often than not. In what can only be described as karma, CG and Carmel dominated this last weekend's MIC wrestling meet on their way out the door. Until the conference expands to 8 teams again, every conference title won by current MIC schools will have an asterisk next to it in the Temp's book.

  2. Finally released by the DOE. Schools with an * do not report enrollments to the DOE, so their numbers are just what the IHSAA has in their directory and may not be current. Enrollments only include students in grades 9-12. Probably not perfect, but it should give an idea what the next alignment would be based off of. Dugger Union will become tourney eligible in 22-23, and Purdue Polytechnic will become tourney eligible in 23-24, so they are both included. 3. This 100%. There is a reason Warren Central scheduled Warsaw in 2024-2025. It gives them another look at a very run heavy team to help prepare for the inevitable matchup with Center Grove. In the case of Snider, I imagine they are trying to accomplish the same thing. EN usually has a good mix of run/pass and 2023 (assuming nothing crazy happens) should be year 3 for their QB with a bunch of the upcoming Juniors/sophomores having some good varsity experience. Wouldn't be shocked to see this series end up 2-2 at the end of the 4 year contract. Quality guy and coach. He definitely has the kids bought in and isn't afraid to play anyone. I am sure he was very happy when Snider agreed to schedule them.

  4. I agree with Foxbat and @Grover. The opinion piece seems a bit dated. My sons youth league has been teaching these mechanics for at least 4-5 years.

  5. Was the original post out of a time warp? Most, if not all, teams in the IEFA teach the rugby style of tackling made famous by the Seattle Seahawks. I assume that's what foxbat is referring to as Hawk tackling. We've been teaching it league-wide for 4-5 years.

  10. It's not fair to say he was never taught the proper technique. Just because he chose not to use it, does not mean it was not taught. While they may not have been taught in youth football, I am willing to bet they were taught in either high school or college. This style of tackling has been around for years now. When Bob Davie was the DC at Notre Dame, he was teaching it. I had a coaching video from that era of teaching techniques. That was in the mid 90's. Holtz' last year there was 96, so it was before that. Also, the coaching videos that we as Indiana coaches are required by the IHSAA (that the NFHS produces) to view have been teaching it for at least 10 years now.

  12. Instead of some retread or never really been much kind of guy, I think they should look to the draft before looking at Foles. I like the Ridder kid out of Cincy. He can play the traditional pocket passer role, but is athletic enough to extend plays and even run if needed. There is a lot of hype around Pickett, but the guys that usually get that much hype fizzle out.

  13. Report me then. I view it as akin to purchasing a newspaper, reading it, then leaving it on the table after I leave so others can read it. What's the real difference?

  14. That's possible. Lawrenceburg has distanced themselves as of the last few years but they also had an extremely talented group that came through and will be graduating. Not to say they still won't be successful but it will be interesting to see how they do this coming season. I wouldn't expect them to have a losing season, but definitely some closer games. While I think East Central would be better suited as an independent I don't think they ever will be. I've always gotten the feeling that East Central likes their position and won't do too much to compromise that.

  16. People seem to forget the real reason Carmel and CG decided to look at HCC. I agree with you. Also, I find it funny that there are still a handful of the remaining MIC schools who have reached out to Carmel and CG about keeping them on the schedule. Kind of funny to me...

  17. I like this idea and approach! Starting from the idea of protection and safety with kids before getting to the take-down part really backs up this ideology too.

  18. Yes. All the coaches are Heads-up certified. I was going to post that it's Heads Up/ Hawk tackle technique but didn't want to open up a can of worms about the nuanced differences between the two. LOL Tackles are like snowflakes. They are all unique and never happen the same way twice. So teaching just "one way" to do it is short-sighted IMO. Dang it, I'm getting all philosophical again.

  19. I agree that the HC-East fits with the HC better than removing them and adding Sheridan and Frankfort with them in a new league. I know the theme is kicking folks out, but as an alternative, I'd like to see Pioneer and WeBo added to the HC. For WeBo, they already play Western and they could still keep Tri-West and Lebanon or Danville on the schedule and increase the season competition. For Pioneer, they could still keep Scecina and Winamac or LaVille.

  21. Blitz thinks there is a lazy belief (of which this bear falls into sometimes) that a team from an equal or larger class automatically helps a team prepare for the playoffs. It's easy to say "Oh 6A Team A is gonna help get ready for the postseason." It's deeper than that in a lot of instances. Maybe a particular scheme needs to be seen to prep for the same challenge in the sectional. Perhaps your offensive line needs to see more in the way of physicality. Perhaps your kids play soft and need a punch in the gut so to speak from a program that is tough. A lot of times higher class = bigger challenge. But that's not 100%

  22. I think we can chalk that one up to recency bias. However, having those programs in the “average” tier actually goes to show how strong the conference is. Central had a really nice stretch of seasons recently, not sure about their near future. Reitz and North have struggled for awhile now but I’ve heard both have a lot of young talent coming up so maybe they up their level of play to compete better with the top 4 dogs. The SIAC is and will continue to be one of the more competitive conferences statewide. They beat each other up all season and there is always at least a few teams making postseason runs. Lots of talent in the area and spread out fairly well. Back to the VL news. I can’t help but wonder…when they leave and nobody replaces them…all the SIAC schools will have an open week. Could set up for some interesting and exciting non-conference matchups in the near future! (mainly referring to potential PAC vs. SIAC matchups)

  23. That does make more sense. Plus that brings Eastbrook back to the MIC. That would round out for a pretty good conference if teams like Cass and NW can get back to being competitive.

  24. I'm curious how many other conferences have a program with 700 plus wins in there "average" tier. 5 of the top 25 winningest programs in Indiana history are in the siac. Only two of them fit in your "good" tier.

  25. There are already youth programs that teach Hawk tackling which is tied to rugby style tackling.

  26. How did you go from NFL football to youth football. Do you have any youth data to back up the doctor's claims? How do you know that rugby style tackling isn't already being taught at the youth levels? BTW, this study published by the NIH says something very different about rugby risks. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26786902/ Results: The overall injury rate was 4.9/1000 AEs in football versus 15.2/1000 AEs in rugby: IRR = 3.1 (95% CI, 2.3-4.2). Game injury rates were higher than practice injury rates: IRR = 6.5 (95% CI, 4.5-9.3) in football and IRR = 5.1 (95% CI, 3.0-8.6) in rugby. Injury rates for the shoulder, wrist/hand, and lower leg and for sprains, fractures, and contusions in rugby were >4 times as high as those in football (all P ≤ 0.006). Concussion rates were 1.0/1000 AEs in football versus 2.5/1000 AEs in rugby. Most injuries occurred via direct player contact, especially during games. The rate of season-ending injuries (>3 months of time loss) was 0.8/1000 AEs in football versus 1.0/1000 AEs in rugby: IRR = 1.3 (95% CI, 0.4-3.4). Conclusion: Overall injury rates were substantially higher in collegiate rugby compared with football. Similarities between sports were observed in the most common injury types (sprains and concussions), locations (lower extremity and head), and mechanisms (direct player contact). Upper extremity injuries were more common in rugby, and the rate of season-ending injuries was similar between sports.

  27. You don’t like dogs either? That explains everything! Life is good stickers go on Jeeps, state law. I haven’t felt a good bern since my last time with Angel Skinners. And Outbacks are great cars made with Hoosiers pride but I don’t have one.

  28. I drive through western Boone county and the Dover area quite frequently (in my sticker free 2005 Dodge Caravan, btw) The sprawl is coming. Every day Lebanon becomes more and more just a bedroom community for the Indy metro urban sprawl. How is your Outback with the "wag more, bark less", "life is good", and "Feel the Bern" stickers doing?

  30. There's a whole lotta unnecessary salt in this thread. Being new to the league, I'm of the opinion that come playoff time I wanna see all the PAC schools go as far as they possibly can. How exciting would it be for the conference to see a team like GS represent us on the biggest stage in the state? Just as Heritage Hills did back in 19 and Southridge in 17.

  32. This article is premium content, and Muda should know better than to post it. Other than that, Doyel's take on things is always over the top. But I agree with getting rid of Wentz. As for the Pacers, meh. The best they want to do is get in to the playoffs for a 1st round loss.
