  1. When I moved to Hancock County in 1998, I largely knew Tim as the really kind DC at Mt. Vernon who loved to talk football. A few months later, I went over to his classroom at MV and interviewed him about the GID for a feature story. We became fast friends, a friendship that developed even more when we became broadcast partners in 2006 when he retired. Tim was one of my best friends. We worked together in some fashion from then until he passed four years later. We always drove together to games and the rides with him were among my favorite times of the week as we'd talk football, family, faith and much more - he'd update me on the church he pastored near Connersville, we'd talk about his daughters and grandkids and my kids, share classroom stories, and most of all, talk football. We had an incredible on-air chemistry. I miss him every fall Friday night. I still use the broadcast equipment he bought for us those years ago. Nobody has been more passionate about promoting Indiana high school football. He did so through this site and many other channels. He was beloved by nearly everyone in the high school football community and we miss him.

  2. The PAC made an argument that it was Indiana's best small-school conference this year https://www.courierpress.com/story/sports/high-school/2022/06/23/ihsaa-sports-pac-4-high-school-titles/7698910001/ "The 2021-22 athletic season was a banner year for the PAC with four team state champions – Gibson Southern football, Forest Park girls basketball, Tecumseh girls basketball and Tecumseh softball – and one individual state champ in track and field with Forest Park's Rachel Mehringer (100m hurdles). Only the Circle City Conference (six) won more team state championships than the Pocket this year. Not bad for a conference with an average enrollment of 563 students."

  3. It was 12 years ago today that the GID suffered a devastating blow from which many thought it would never recover. The founder and guiding spirit of the forum, Tim Adams, passed away suddenly. Tim was a long time coach, and a tireless promoter of Indiana high school football. I consider myself very fortunate to have gotten to know him and call him a good friend. I know many of the people on the forum now joined after Tim passed, and they know him only by the occasional references on here. Perhaps others who knew him might share some of their recollections of this very good man.

  4. Tim was an amazing man. Most of our communication was through email or on here, but when you saw him in person, he was just a warm, personable and larger than life individual. A little background, in Nov 1999, Rivals hired me to be the Indiana high school football editor for Rivals and I opened HoosierPreps.com. The 2020 season was my first covering football and I had a message board that was somewhat active but nowhere near TGD levels, even in those days. I can't remember if Tim found my site first or I found his, but we were online "rivals" (pun intended) but had a mutual respect for what each of us were doing. When the dotcom bust happened and Rivals went bankrupt, it shut the site down. I reopened it as AlmanacSports.com but didn't even bother to reintroduce the message board because TGD was already so strong. Tim and I had a meeting set up to talk about merging the sites or at least working more closely together, but it got postponed and ultimately never happened because he passed away 😞 Tim was an awesome guy and I miss him. Thanks @Bobref for starting this thread. Definitely brought back good memories. I would love to see him inducted into the Indiana Hall of Fame. He definitely deserves it for all his contributions to Indiana High School Football. Dan "Rudy" Engler

  9. I sent this out to several email lists but wanted to share it on here as I know there are people on here that are not on the email lists that I sent it to. Good Morning, I hope everyone is having a great June and has made it through healthy. I am writing to you to let you know that I have taken over the Facebook page for Hoosier HS Football. My goal is to use it as a medium to grow coverage of the High School game in Indiana by focusing on the athletes, coaches, refs, and fans. One of my significant motivators for purchasing the site was to ensure the focus stayed on the athletes and all of the positive things that football can provide for young people. I purchased the site from Tim Phillips, who did a great job of creating an initial audience. He has since made Pit Viper Sports and is conducting the same interviews that he used with this site to try and grow his following, which is certainly within his rights. I wanted to reach out to you to let you know that this brand (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and our Website) will be run with the sole purpose of highlighting what makes High School Football great, the development of young men into great people. One of my first projects will be to create a directory of every team's Social Media and graphics. This will allow media members to quickly and easily see the information you are putting out if you could complete this short Google Form so we can put all the information in one place to make it easier for the media to cover our athletes. I will also be sending out a round of interviews this weekend. If you can’t complete them, not a big deal, I know how much you have on your plate. I will attempt to ensure you can complete them in less than 10 minutes. I know some people prefer phone calls to emails, so if you would rather talk via phone, just let me know. For those of you that know me and have interacted with me through 60 Second Clinic, I hope my reputation of building a community for football coaches speaks to my goals for this brand. I would love your help in continuing to develop this into something extraordinary for our state! David Weitz Offensive Coordinator Hamilton Southeastern

  11. Guess I didn't realize I had been on this forum that long. I swapped messages with Tim many times but only met him in person once -- just a few days before he passed. He was the real deal and was in it for the right reasons. And he definitely had a weak spot for linemen. I remember him being anxious for the birth of his fourth(?) grandchild who I believe was to be named Gracie. I got Gracie a onesie that said "Trojan Football" or something similar. Never got to give it to Tim so I mailed it to his wife instead. Tim is definitely missed but what a legacy he left. Thanks for the post Bob.

  12. Those extolling the overturning of Roe as a victory for “states’ rights,” be careful what you ask for. Roe was grounded in an interpretation of the 5th and 14th amendments that recognized a fundamental right of individual privacy, which included the right to determine what happens with the individual’s own body. This decision is a giant step toward rolling back the notion that the Constitution embodies a right of privacy. Is that what you really want? If no, how are you going to stop the train as it gains momentum?

  13. I never got the chance to meet Tim, but I certainly was made to feel welcome by him all those years ago... which I have no idea on knowing when that was LOL. I know the forum was a totally different looking beast then. I did get to meet his daughter at a Linton-Scecina game at Linton when I purchased my treasured GID shirt that still hangs proudly here in Vincennes.

  14. Yet - they somehow found a way to get it done. And part of that was due to their offense finding an identify and becoming more consistent, which is the point I was making for this upcoming year's "predictions" for the conference race.

  16. My goodness we've had some tussles with the Senators... the one at Linton is always 'questionable' due to the strip/fumble. WW has always had some bruising RBs. Conrad comes to mind... but man McPheeters was a horse. Yeah we prided our D always on stopping the big back... but yeah.. he was at 125 on 26 carries at half. But he was big on D too... ended with 12 tackles... but I think he got wore out... he got hit every play... and he was a load...so hitting him wasn't fun LOL. I really seem to recall that he hurt his leg right before half.... seems like he was limping more as the 2nd half played out. But he onnly had 23 yards after half... still a stunning 40 carries tho! HE was the WW offense... his 148 was all but 22 of WW's rush yards... and Linton pass D held Sizemore and company to just 5 of 17 passing for 45 yards. That first half was back n forth!!! Keying on Meurer (he had just 34 rush yards) opened up things for Jackson (173 yards) Eberhardt (113 yards) and the FB Bason (86 yds). Course we didn't pass at all.. 1 of 3!! I remember the vibe in pregame.... such a buildup... but such respect as well. I really like Philip. We had great conversations all season via email.. and I really enjoyed talking with him after the games on field. Such a loss.

  23. I feel Linton & AC are mirror images of one another. They've both been successful at the sectional and regional levels and then struggling at semi state. Both did get over the hurdle & win the long awaited title. I feel this will be the last 2 year cycle in 1A for AC. It will be bittersweet as we've enjoyed success, but those rivalries will fall. It would be nice to get a win over Sheridan, Pioneer, and LCC in the playoffs for once. Hopefully those programs will be up bc of enrollment or success factor.

  24. Honestly torn if I miss you guys or not. 😂. I still read most Linton threads. Wouldve been interesting to see our 2019 2020 match ups unfold but I seen alot of our most talented teams fall to Linton. 2004 was fun game. 2012 was a good team that ran into such a good defense. But 2015 was my favorite. Was one of my first years on the board and it was me vs 100 fans in the game thread. Game was much closer then the final score of 35-14 as Linton scored 2 late as we got gassed. I remember fans talking about how Linton hadn't allowed 100 yd rusher all season and Landon McPheeters wasn't gonna be different. Had over 100 at halftime if I remember correctly but wasn't enough. I moved out here from Louisville in 5th grade so I wasn't around during WW 93-94 runs so my only 2 regionals we had at that point were both loses to Linton. 19-20 would've been 2 more great games I think. But we may have lost and still been searching for those SS appearances we finally got with you gone. 😂. Of course now we are rebuilding so I really don't wanna see you guys. Maybe in a few years. Holden Bowsman (Phillips son and QB of those SS teams) is now first year on coaching staff. So when he makes his movie moment of winning state as a coach for his father we have to beat Linton on the way. 😉

  25. I think it Linton's case....we were climbing the mountain in 1A... getting so close in semi state losses, and of course there was never a shortage of Linton fans ready and willing to shout the Miners glory into any topic anytime! It was a heady time in Greene County, and while I defend that most Linton football fans are level-headed and not the outrageous few that got a lot of attention. Unfortunately we've lost a couple of them in recent years to health failure. I think the robust Miner folks pulled other locals into the fray as the rivalries both historically then as teams started meeting seemingly every year in Sectional title games, regionals etc. Yearly there where spirited back n forths with the faithful from North Daviess, North Knox, North Central, Sullivan (altho not 1A)... then of course West Washington, and the battles with Perry Central...through Rockville, North Vermillion, Fountain Central.. then naturally the Scecina, and Ritter heartbreaks... and....well definitely the LCC banter... to the eventual win over Pioneer in 2016 was the pinnacle. I think the combination of a big talented graduation class and a bump up to 2A and into sectional with state champ Southridge and perennial power Mater Dei contributed to the slow face of boisterous Miner Faithful, altho there were still plenty of us representing. A lot of the guys I knew on the GID from Linton, and the area kinda came on as their kid or grandkid was coming up through the grades. A lot of Dads/Gramps/Uncles/older brothers are involved in youth league and junior high programs and of course as Linton was rolling in the late 90's and 2000's winning multiple sectionals.. word of GID talk spread and guys couldn't resist making comments here n there. As those kids graduated, parents sort of did as well, as this many of the GID Linton folks. I think Linton's 2017 team that lost to 9-3 Ritter, to 14-1 state runner up Eastern Greene (and a game I'd of loved a rematch)... and twice to eventual 2A champ Southridge (17-16, and 20-0 in rematch that was 0-0 at half).... I think that team would have relished a rematch with EG and made a run at seeing Pioneer again. 2018 saw Linton in a losing season for the 1st time sine 1996! and I was amazed at the amount of negativism that just came from all over. At 5-6 you'd of thought the world ended...which was crazy considering the youth of that team.. and starting 0-3. And sounding like the LInton guy I am.... I think each of the 2019, 2020, and certainly last years team could have made solid runs in 1A from the South. I realize we are 2A and likely will stay there... we are only 2A by 8 students. So we are a low end 2A school any way you look at it. The kids have responded well, we just have not gotten over the Mater Dei hump.. .much like we couldn't get over the Ritter and Scecina hump in 1A semi-state.... or the Perry Central stage in 1A Sect 40. This past year was a tough one to swallow and that class was so much like the state winning 2016 class... and we lose so many to graduation... but a great group coming back albeit big shoes to fill. I think a lot of the Miner folks that use to frequent GID have just faded away as they have from actual involvement in the program. I also think there was an active move to try and get less 'talk' on a forum that could be used as motivation for opponents! Since the move to 2A we've not been able to hoist a sectional trophy..as opposed to winning 9 out of the last 10 years in 1A. Honestly it's disappointed to see how people dropped off. But it's also been sad to watch the fall out just in attendance at the actual games at the ROy.... more and more people staying home to watch streams or going to the local watering hole and watching from bars and clubs instead of being there in the flesh where these kids need the see the support. I've always sad... on the air... that Linton fans can be spoiled into just expecting to win and win big. It isn't always going to be the case, but we've been lucky and blessed to have had some terrific teams in our small town.. .such as last year... and they deserve the kind of turn out at home and away that those teams in the 80's 90's and early 2000's did. yeah.. I miss you 1A .

  27. Once again, stop being so dense. The gentleman above just stated “safety” as one of the main reasons for moving his children to the suburbs. I believe it is often referred to as urban sprawl/white flight. As I have mentioned in multiple threads, the issues facing students in the city as opposed to rural/suburban schools are night and day. Just turn on the news every once in a while…especially if you want to be depressed. Look at the data as it relates to crime and where it takes place…(hint, it isn’t Hamilton, Hancock, Boone, Johnson or Hendricks County most often). If you cannot connect the dots, I don’t know what to tell you. Warren and Ben Davis’ best days as football programs are behind them. Side note: How in the hell are you telling me on about things that have been happening for 30+ years when I’m pretty certain you weren’t even fertilized before then?

  29. The Cass Kings were never happier than the day that kid graduated from Pioneer! 4 years against him was 4 too many. This young man was impossible not to like. An absolute unit on the field, and yes sir yes ma'am off the field. So cool to see the success he is having, and so very very thankful there are no more Kisers coming up!!

  31. Our crew made a rare trip to central Indiana during the regular season one year to work Fishers @ Avon. Dave Shelbourne, formerly at Highland, was coaching Avon and Rick Wimmer, formerly of Merrillville, was coaching Fishers. When TA found out we were coming, he got all excited and promised to come over and see us. We had a great time chatting before the game. This picture of the coin toss be fore the game was taken by TA himself.

  33. Little known fact TA had a soft spot for Softball players, my daughter was just starting her career when she met TA. Whenever I talked to him after he met her he always asked me how she was doing and how her career was going. I often thought of the big guy watching her play throughout her career. TA had a heart of gold and he did what he did for all the right reasons. Geez what was Jimmie in this pic, about 12?

  34. Personally, I hate the Facebook groups. It’s harder to keep track of the posts because they’re not separated by topic and it’s just way easier to miss posts. Also, I feel like the overall IQ is much much lower on there and I don’t have the patience for it.

Well Trump nearly died; you and several of "those people" got sick; I got paid for two jobs during the lockdown; my teaching positions upgraded since then; and my choice of trucking jobs got better, so yeah the pandemic was pretty good for me.
