  1. IHSAA calls it "unique," which is laughable. There's a reason only one state does it this way, because it's really kind of stupid. If the Brownsburg/Ben Davis game didn't open eyes, than nothing will. What would Texas, California, Georgia, or Ohio say if they were told, "by the way, the two best teams in the state are going to meet in the first round." They'd declare lunacy. Would these same people who voted against seeding vote for a blind draw for the college football playoff? We all know the answer to that. Kudos to Bob Gaddis for his politically correct response.

  3. I believe this is the “equity” I am always hearing about modern education. Punish the high end students/programs to cater to the low performing ones. Pretty soon we are going to have a “redistribution” of accomplishments and Brownsburg is going to have to forfeit 3 of their wins and give them to Pike so that no one’s feelings get hurt and everyone can tout their “accomplishments.”

  6. Man, I despise politics with a passion, but the right wing, extremist, attitude of the IHSAA is very troubling and reeks of the good old boy network. How many out of touch old fools does it take to use just a tad bit of common sense and seed a tournament?

  7. The Brownsburg and Ben Davis game of 2023 (if there already wasn't a better example) SHOULD have been the eye opener. Unless you're living under a rock (which apparently some of the powers that be are doing). Bob's a great guy and I'm glad I (along with all of you) have the reading ability to know what Bob really means/ wants to say here. Lol

  8. That game needs to be protested by the Catholic Church or something. A portal to Hell may open on the 50 yard line when two teams of Red Devils take the field.

  10. oh yeah...when I am filing my taxes each year, I fixate on that local tax....that one's the killer!!!! Seriously, my beef with taxes is the feds....I appreciate not paying additional taxes across the board and not a fan of rising property tax...but the vast majority of my tax dollars isn't consumed at the local level.

  11. "Unique," lol. "The blind draw gives teams with poor records a chance to play somebody they could possibly beat in the first round. " Didn't that ship leave the port when Team A spent more time weight training in the off-season than Team B? I know this for certain even though I'm over 100 miles away. Those Brownsburg seniors busted their tails for four years for their shot at the state title. This wonderful idea the IHSAA came up with (something 49 other states scratch their heads at), sent those kids packing after one game. Shame on the IHSAA.

  14. Alright, I am in the middle of a Bahamas cruise and way too much alcohol so I guess I rattled some cages with my “right wing” comment. I am way too lit to even try and have a normal conversation and the ball and chain is chewing my tail for even being on the “Net”. If the old cronies can’t figure out that it is best to seed the tourney then there is no hope going forward to have a good tournament. Seeing the best 2 teams playing in the first round is ludicrous. When I sober up in a few days, I will send BTF a PM and tell him where my right wing comment came from. At this point, I ain’t sure…🍺🍺🍺

  15. The majority of high school AD’s do not have quality or good high school football programs. For those ADs at those schools, it was an easy no brainer vote to turn it down. They prefer the random draw because they do not want to get stuck playing the best seeds and teams each and every year. It’s not right, it’ll be very difficult to ever get past this ancient random draw rule.

  16. Exactly. There’s the problem. Schools vote their individual interests. No one is interested in what’s best for Indiana high school football.

  17. PM me. Educate me on the IHSAA having a right wing extremist attitude. I too was surprised that 79% of AD's voted against. I would have guessed closer to 50/50. But if we really dig deep, 79% of the programs probably know they're not making a run to state anyway. So maybe the blind draw is a better opportunity for those schools to advance as far as they can.

  19. Really good point. Also, it's weird to be used as a prop for PR as a high schooler and the guys aren't exactly bouncing off the walls listening to the strength coach. @BLACKGOLD2007 I share a bit of the sentiment in that I don't care for handling our business through this type of contrived PR stunt––I have to believe this is Thacker's work. I'd expect a high school's PR misstep wouldn't be enough to affect your optimism given the number of your thoughtful and intelligent contributions to this board.

  20. Since 2018, states have taken in $4.33 billion in tax revenue from sports betting. Sports betting is now legal in 38 states plus the District of Columbia, with states raking in $4.33 billion in tax revenue since the Supreme Court ruled in 2018 that states could legalize sports betting. And that’s just the tax revenue. The amount wagered is many multiples of that. With that much money in play, it seems a foregone conclusion that there will be those who want to get a slice of that by manipulating outcomes. There is a potential gambling scandal brewing in the NBA right now, springing from the proliferation of “prop” bets based on individual statistics. It’s a lot easier for a single player to influence statistics like 3 pt. shot attempts, assists, turnovers, etc., than to determine the outcome of a game. The confluence of gambling and fantasy sports creates unlimited opportunities to skew results. The NFL and other leagues are now so heavily invested in sports gambling that anything that suggests to bettors that the games are not on the up and up will be dealt with swiftly and severely. And it is spreading to college sports as well … which are not nearly as closely monitored as pro sports. Look for lifetime bans and criminal prosecutions. We have been used to TV networks exerting major influence on game times, pace of play, and other aspects of the games. Is the day far off when the large gambling concerns like Bally, Draft Kings, MGM, etc., will have that type of influence?

  21. I know the trend has been to limit all kicks as much as possible. That being said perhaps I’m naive, but I don’t see onside kicks being overly used in the HS game, and much like a shot clock in BK, I don’t think it has a place in the HS game…..yet.

  22. To be quite fair to Faith, while most religious institutions tend to do for them and theirs, Faith has worked with the local government to provide some facilities for the use of the community as a whole and not just their congregation. Faith built the, currently, only skate park in the Lafayette area and it's open to the community. Even when folks were worried that Faith's current expansion efforts might end up overrunning that park, Faith has committed to the community that it will find space on its grounds to make sure that there will be an available skate park. My main surprise with them building a football stadium is that, they had a rental deal with Jeff last season for 8-man that cost them pretty close to nothing. The issue is likely that, with the move to 11-man, that arrangement would be much tougher to pull off because 8-man usually played on Saturdays. Then again, Cathedral has used other institutions' ground for their home field too and, with five other schools with very nice facilities in the Lafayette area, I'd have to imagine that at least one of them would be open on any given Friday night. Toss in Benton Central just up the road less than a half hour and there's a half dozen locations. Until Faith gets stable in football, it would seem like a better fiduciary route. Of course, Faith's always been known for soccer around here, so perhaps it's being built as a soccer venue that allows football to be played on the pitch as opposed to the traditional Indiana setup of a football field with the orange and blue spray paint on the gridiron.

  24. Who knows as one angy Chicago radio caller just said, Caleb could be the Black Baker Mayfield. My fear on this miss doesn't come from Daniels or Maye. Between those 2, I would take Maye. Here's me being picky: I don't like how smiley Daniel's is when losing. And I think he's benefitted greatly from Brian Kelley's offense and the WR's he has. Maybe I'm wrong and he's like Burrow was and is playing at an NFL level himself with NFL WR's. My fear is McCarthy becomes the best QB in this draft. He just strikes me as a Tom Brady guy that can lead a team of men, get excellence from his teammates and never be afraid of a challenge. I rewatched that Rose Bowl game during some down time over the weekend. That kid is loved by his teammates.

  25. Faith Christian fielded an 8 man team last year and will be going to an 11 man team in the 2024 football campaign. They are building a turf football/soccer stadium to be ready for the 24-25 season.

  26. Great story....I first learned of these ultra races from reading the book "Can't Hurt Me" by David Goggins. The audiobook is great too. His goal was to run the Badwater race that goes through the desert in Nevada. Pretty incredible. Nowhere near as intense of a terrain, a friend of mine ran one here in Northern Indiana, called the Indiana Trail 100 in the Chain O'Lakes State Park.

  27. Forget the NFL draft machinations and the NCAA basketball tournaments, this was the most important story in sports over this weekend: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/23/us/barkley-marathons-jasmin-paris.html If you haven't seen the aforementioned documentary I encourage you to watch it. And congratulations to Mr. Paris on her monumental achievement.

  34. No they wouldn't. The Texas post-season system while not all-in, does nothing at all to "seed" teams outside of, in the past, putting the two largest of the four "winningest" teams in district in the Division I and the two smallest of the four "winningest" teams in district in the Division II. They then square off with the next district numerically ... The top two largest teams of the top four "winningest" teams in District 1 square off against the top two largest teams of the top four "winningest" teams in District 2. If that produces #1 vs. #2 in the first game, called bi-district, then so be it. Just the way it is. You play who you play. No lunacy, no whining, no nothing ... you just go out and play.

  36. Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association board? The IIAAA? I have never heard of that group, and to be honest I am not sure how it could be much different than an IHSAA board. Don't really care to know the difference either. There is a quote circulating around social media the last week or so. Something to the affect of "Schools are being run by the same people who wouldn't dress out for Phys Ed." Seems appropriate in this case as well.

  37. The combo of Ryan Poles as GM and Kevin Warren as President of the Bears have drafted the same amount of QB's for the Bears as you and I have: ZERO. Poles was promoted within the Kansas City Chief's organization everytime a new GM was brought in. Warren built the Vikings new stadium before running the Big Ten. I have faith in both of them that they are nothing like the old regime (aka. CPA Ted Phillips and whichever McCaskey son you want to name)

  39. I wouldn't put too much stock into their "reaction". I don't recall our reaction being all that different when Cory was announced as head coach. We had a pretty simple team meeting in LGI A. There was no dramatic reveal, no hugging and cheering, and Cory didn't spend any time trying to fire us up. We wanted Cory to be the guy, he told us he was going to be himself, it was a relief when the announcement came, and it was business as usual from there.
