IHSAA calls it "unique," which is laughable. There's a reason only one state does it this way, because it's really kind of stupid. If the Brownsburg/Ben Davis game didn't open eyes, than nothing will. What would Texas, California, Georgia, or Ohio say if they were told, "by the way, the two best teams in the state are going to meet in the first round." They'd declare lunacy. Would these same people who voted against seeding vote for a blind draw for the college football playoff? We all know the answer to that. Kudos to Bob Gaddis for his politically correct response.

The trophy says IHSAA (Year) Football Champions (Class) Which is accurate. They are the state champion of that class. Are there some years the 6A State Champion might not be the overall State Champion/superior team? It's plausible. I think if you win your class, you earn the right to be called a State Champion.

why? there are some years where you can speculate some about a few of the larger class champions (mainly 4/5 being able to compete in a one off with the champion of 6a) unless ur putting all classes together for a gigantic tournament to find out who the real champion is i don't see the point in making one team of high schoolers state champions and everyone else class champions based on where they grew up

With the recent seeding proposal shot down quicker than ...well I can't come up with anything "catchy" - but anyway, with it being shot down it got me wondering. The NFL/NBA commissioner has to answer to the owners of the league. Who does the IHSAA "brass/higher ups/executive committees" quote/unquote have to "answer to??" Like...who hires these positions? And...who/do they have bosses to answer to? The IFCA presents a proposal for seeding...the IHSAA just says "NOPE"...and that is it?? The IHSAA decides they are going to do this new 1A-4A classification thing for non-football sports...and they viola - it happens! Meanwhile, their is a big contingent that thinks it would be a better idea in football to have the biggest 32 in 6A...smallest 32 in 1A, then rest split evenly...but the IHSSA says - NOPE!! I will admit I am ignorant on the whole deal so there may be an easy answer to this...but sometimes it just seems to me like the IHSAA higher ups are like the almighty OZ.

I actually heard that, upon the announcement that Faith Christian was going to go to 11-man this season, some 20-25 players from the LCC football team became Baptists and will be attending Faith in the fall. Lord, I apologize for that there.

You guys also seem to be under the impression that principals give two shits about seeding. Certainly some do, but for the masses, nobody cares. And make no mistake it is the principals who pull the weight, not the AD’s.

I’ve long stated, if you’re a sports fan, I can drive within an hour of my house on any given Friday night and see a quality athletic event for 5-6-7 bucks whatever it costs to get in. You can not beat that entertainment value anywhere. And I’ll never get my panties in a wad investing in our youth. You want to talk about property taxes, let’s examine why every cop in the state is driving a new SUV, why local police forces need APC’s, and all the high tech gadgetry that they do to basically enforce traffic laws and bust high school drinking parties.

Is this what your hatred is really about? Because you didn't get to play on it, you feel kids today shouldn't? I believe in wanting BETTER for kids today than what I had it. Turf solves a lot of problems for some schools. Take Sheridan. By adding turf, not only does our football program get a top-notch field to play on, but the soccer games can all be moved to the turf as well. For the past forever, they have been playing soccer on a very outdated soccer field that is off-campus, raising concerns for student and fan safety. The old soccer field will now be town property, where the plan is to build a new larger capacity salt barn, which obviously benefits the community. Also, the band will get to utilize the new turf. Moving their practices from the blacktop parking lot where they have been since before the 00s, to a safer (and cooler) turf field. Are some schools changing to turf just to spend extravagantly? Sure. However, to assume that EVERY school is doing that, is naive and ignorant.

oh yeah...when I am filing my taxes each year, I fixate on that local tax....that one's the killer!!!! Seriously, my beef with taxes is the feds....I appreciate not paying additional taxes across the board and not a fan of rising property tax...but the vast majority of my tax dollars isn't consumed at the local level.

I believe this is the “equity” I am always hearing about modern education. Punish the high end students/programs to cater to the low performing ones. Pretty soon we are going to have a “redistribution” of accomplishments and Brownsburg is going to have to forfeit 3 of their wins and give them to Pike so that no one’s feelings get hurt and everyone can tout their “accomplishments.”

Man, I despise politics with a passion, but the right wing, extremist, attitude of the IHSAA is very troubling and reeks of the good old boy network. How many out of touch old fools does it take to use just a tad bit of common sense and seed a tournament?

The Brownsburg and Ben Davis game of 2023 (if there already wasn't a better example) SHOULD have been the eye opener. Unless you're living under a rock (which apparently some of the powers that be are doing). I liken this to people wanting a national football tournament, because HS kids need to be playing an NFL length season I guess. The goal of every HS team is to win a state championship. They’ve done that when they won their class, there’s nothing more to play for. The goal has been achieved. Now we’re going to have another six team bracket so a couple of over top idiot dads can have bragging rights? I’m sure you guys will want to seed it as well, so we’d have CG v Tiny School that no one from CG has ever heard of. What the hell would entice Tiny school that no one from CG has ever heard to even want to play this game? It’s stupid.

Is this really what some people in big schools worry about? Does it eat away at your person every time a 1A champion is crowned? I mean, find something worthwhile to worry about in life. Sheesh. Oh, and they already do this. Class 1A State Champion Class 2A State Champion, etc.

The majority of high school AD’s do not have quality or good high school football programs. For those ADs at those schools, it was an easy no brainer vote to turn it down. They prefer the random draw because they do not want to get stuck playing the best seeds and teams each and every year. It’s not right, it’ll be very difficult to ever get past this ancient random draw rule.

PM me. Educate me on the IHSAA having a right wing extremist attitude. I too was surprised that 79% of AD's voted against. I would have guessed closer to 50/50. But if we really dig deep, 79% of the programs probably know they're not making a run to state anyway. So maybe the blind draw is a better opportunity for those schools to advance as far as they can.

The combo of Ryan Poles as GM and Kevin Warren as President of the Bears have drafted the same amount of QB's for the Bears as you and I have: ZERO. Poles was promoted within the Kansas City Chief's organization everytime a new GM was brought in. Warren built the Vikings new stadium before running the Big Ten. I have faith in both of them that they are nothing like the old regime (aka. CPA Ted Phillips and whichever McCaskey son you want to name)

Also, it's weird to be used as a prop for PR as a high schooler and the guys aren't exactly bouncing off the walls listening to the strength coach. @BLACKGOLD2007 I share a bit of the sentiment in that I don't care for handling our business through this type of contrived PR stunt––I have to believe this is Thacker's work. I'd expect a high school's PR misstep wouldn't be enough to affect your optimism given the number of your thoughtful and intelligent contributions to this board.

What problem are you trying to solve here? Is Lutheran walking around claiming they’d take down Ben Davis? Id assume all reasonable people can make a distinction between being the best in the state among peers. If your goal is semantics you need to add ‘high school’ to your state champion tag, otherwise Notre Dame might end up having a beef with Ben Davis.

Great perspective here. Each class is "weighed" based on their enrollment. Instead of playing the "what if" game that @BTF mentions, lets celebrate accomplishments. To get to a state championship in each class is a feat, so diminishing the accomplishments of a 1A school over a 6A school doesn't accomplish much.

In every school below 4A this is likely fact. Carmel has theirs made by skilled craftsmen from Italy.

How can it not be? Apparently this is what the American citizens want. I see NO positive outcome from this election. My only hope is whoever loses shuts the f…up and rides off into the sunset….. But we all know this ends in a shitstorm.

Saw reports there was 4 or 5 suitors asking for JF, but JF's Agent requested that those teams not be the final destination and led them to Pittsburgh. I believed Poles then and I do now, when he said he was going to "do right' for JF when he makes his decision. Rooting for the kid.
