  1. Quite a few on this forum thought we wouldn’t get to this weekend with HS foootball. I was optimistic but had my doubts. 95% of scheduled high school games in Indiana were played. We still don’t know all the answers for this pandemic, but congratulations to every member school, coaches, staff and players on staying disciplined and being a valuable source of entertainment in your communities. Let’s hope 2021 is closer to normal(whatever that will be) and we are all in the stands cheering our student athletes.

  4. I usually try not to "fall into the trap", but I have some time. We started our Mater Dei experience in 1983 as part of the Cluster system. They cursed us, spat on us, berated us and beat the crap out of us for many years. After 8 straight losses over 19 years, we finally turned the tables, winning six of the next ten. Yes, they have a bigger roster. And no they don't have kids who would rather play video games than excel at school and extracurriculars. Their parents don't pay tuition for them to be slugs. While the public school enrollment is increased with a diversity of kids who will

  8. Being a fan of big school football primarily, I havent always paid much attention to all the little private schools and charters that have opened up across the state over the past decade. If it werent for all these little guys, we would be much closer to the Magic 280 goal to achieve competitive balance. If Im reading the data correctly, according to Harrels site, CC began play in 2014 with one game, where they recorded a 40-7 win over another newbie, Traders Point. CC has steadily built and has now reached the 1A State Championship game in just its 6th full season of play. Undoubt

  10. Guess what high school football isn't about the fans, it's about the kids. If I can't attend a game for the rest of the season, but they can still play that's 100% a trade off that anyone can live with. See above. How would you like to see Ben Davis forfeit because they ignored the precautions and someone tested positive? This has been a unique year and we are a couple weeks away from the state title. I think we should be willing to do anything it takes to see that the season is able to finish.

  11. In 1A sometimes there's not so much grass either. Heard a visiting team kid complain once getting off the bus that it was a shame that their opponent made them park all the way in the back of this gravel parking and that they had such a long walk to the field. The bus driver said to the kid, "Quit your b*tchin'. What do you want? I drove you right up to the 50 yard line."

  23. In response to what Bob said above I think is extremely important to "control what you can control". Our crew too has been disappointment by lack of advancement for many many years (started our crew in 2008). We were observed week 1 in 2016. Our observer was completely honest with us. He said our crewed was over weight at certain positions and that we appeared to be slow because of the weight some of our guys carried. So you know what I did, I went and looked at our films. That game and of every game throughout the year. We did look slow, we were out of position at times. I challenged our crew

  26. On a hot summer’s night in August of 1982 my favorite wrestling tag team was formed. In my eyes Strike Force is the greatest tag team known to man. Tito Santana and Rick Martel could beat up anyone one out there. Due to politics it took them until October of 1987 to win the tag team title. For years they had to take a back seat to lesser tag teams like the islanders and the Hart foundation, but they were patient and stayed the course. The WWF robbed them again shortly after, and fixed a match so Demolition could win the title. Strike Force would never hold the belt again and after a couple of

  31. “Simple” and “easy” are great ... if you’re talking about puzzles. But that doesn’t mean they are “best.” The “best” solution is one that can be implemented easily, sure, but it also should address the problem, and fix it with the fewest negative consequences, i. e., collateral damage. The SF doesn’t “punish” anyone (I think that’s the word you meant to use.). But I understand how using loaded words like that serves your agenda. The SF is an attempt to go right to the “problem” and fix it at the root, not use a broad, non-specific remedy that accomplishes the purpose, in part, but t

  32. This is such bs. Man up and play the team in front of you. If you’re not competitive, get better. If a coach isn’t getting the job done, hold him accountable. Winning a state championship isn’t in the cards for some teams and it isn’t supposed to be, that’s what makes it special. Regardless if you are a public or private school you still have to put in the 17 weeks of work to get there and not have a bad week or half that gets you booted.

  33. The players I listed did not leave because of any “scandals.” Schott and Lezon’s fathers work at Southport. The Montefalcos have long been a Cathedral family. Fryar’s father coached at Beech Grove. Sparks’ family moved north. Not sure what McCahill’s reasoning was but know his dad was a great athlete at Scecina, so maybe has some ties from the east side. These are facts, not opinions. So “evaluate” all you want. Scott Marsh was a fantastic coach as is John Rodenberg. In Marsh’s first year, Roncalli was ranked #1 in 5A and only dropped close losses to Decatur Central and Cathedra

  34. Actually, what you want to see and when you want to see it are the difference. You want to see everything RIGHT NOW and don't seem to be willing to wait out SF to work itself out. Realistically, if Roncalli really is a TRUE 6A school, it will get there eventually via SF provided that IHSAA doesn't get too cute and put them in the same sectional with someone like Cathedral where it has to be either/or. In the same way, if Cathedral really was a true 6A school, and at best they are a lower-rung 6A, SF would keep them up in 6A. Similarly, should Chatard get to 4A, assuming the IHSAA doesn't d

  35. I have been thinking about this thread, probably a little too much this week. I am not naive enough to think the keyboard warriors of a message board will have much sway over IHSAA opinion, especially because your post and others in this thread are a little too logical and rational for that. But I digress. One of the issues in this debate is the strict lumping of P/Ps into a one-size-fits-all category. Hat tip to @Esso Ayche for his data dive into the last decade, but notice we are talking about FOUR (4) schools in Ft. Wayne, Lafayette, and Indianapolis and used their success as the c

  36. Just rediculous. You have been at this 20 years. GIVE. IT. UP. SF works. Roncalli has one State Championship in past 15 years. SF works. You might get 5% support in the IHSAA to support a 2 bump up in class. Want to know why? SF Works. It is enjoyable to come back on here every couple of years and see the calories you burn on this nonsense. Appreciate the entertainment. When my Grandsons who are two years old are playing for Roncalli and Guerin 12 years from now, I hope I can come back on here and get a couple of minutes more of enjoyment because I know you will still be at i

  37. After slogging through this discussion over the past several days I thought I would do a little digging and give myself more background on the topic (I know, weird). Admittedly, I am not an Indiana native, and over the past decade or so I've had to peruse my way through many-a websites, forums, almanacs, and more to try to keep pace with the ins, outs, abbreviations, and nicknames (I still can't read a STC thread on the EIAC to save my life)... let alone feel brave enough to post confidently in any PP-themed topic. So today I did what I do best: Look up a bunch of stuff, put it in a spreads

  39. SAC thought it was impressive that they sent 6,5,3,2A representation to regional. Disappointing only Luers advances in 2A. Concordia was competitive but Chatard was the better team. Dwenger wins that game 7x out of 10. At which point I think the Narrative on the SAC changes to “Neutral”

  40. If you truly think that not playing is an advantage, you don't know what you're talking about. You can have injuries in practice, so resting doesn't make a bit of a difference. Give any coach or player the option of playing a game or resting and taking a week off, and I'd bet no one would want to give up a game.

I have a side gig that I spend a lot of time doing, but at the end of the day best case i break even and it doesn't cost me money. That's hard to beat. 42. Financial considerations are definitely a factor, especially since there was no revenue from the boy’s basketball tournament. But to say that’s the only reason they went forward with the season is a gross overstatement, and does a disservice to the people at the IHSAA, who are working hard to give the kids some aspect of normalcy in these goofy times.

  43. I'm not sure why what we are currently using doesn't work. If a team is successful and earns enough points they "bump up". If they continue to be successful they continue to move up the ladder. Maybe we change the points system or what it takes to "bump up", but just moving all private schools up based on twice their enrollment regardless of success seems ignorant. There is no reason a school of any size should be penalized and placed in a class well above their enrollment when they might have an absolutely horrible athletic program. Indiana classed all sports many years ago to give more

  45. Many of those schools only have 12-15 kids per class, some have more but likely not more than 25-30 and as stated not all of those attend Mater Dei. Trust me, the school is trying to increase the enrollment, not keep it down for athletics.

  46. Since I have been unable to actually attend a Mater Dei game this season and have never seen the Miners play, my non-expert, totally un-educated guess is MD 24-14. This is based entirely on my being an MD fan & admitted “homer” so take for as little as it is worth. Best of luck to both teams for a well-played and injury free game and may all fans travel safely. We have all had more than enough to deal with in 2020 already!
