  1. IHSAA calls it "unique," which is laughable. There's a reason only one state does it this way, because it's really kind of stupid. If the Brownsburg/Ben Davis game didn't open eyes, than nothing will. What would Texas, California, Georgia, or Ohio say if they were told, "by the way, the two best teams in the state are going to meet in the first round." They'd declare lunacy. Would these same people who voted against seeding vote for a blind draw for the college football playoff? We all know the answer to that. Kudos to Bob Gaddis for his politically correct response.

  3. I believe this is the “equity” I am always hearing about modern education. Punish the high end students/programs to cater to the low performing ones. Pretty soon we are going to have a “redistribution” of accomplishments and Brownsburg is going to have to forfeit 3 of their wins and give them to Pike so that no one’s feelings get hurt and everyone can tout their “accomplishments.”

  6. Man, I despise politics with a passion, but the right wing, extremist, attitude of the IHSAA is very troubling and reeks of the good old boy network. How many out of touch old fools does it take to use just a tad bit of common sense and seed a tournament?

  7. The Brownsburg and Ben Davis game of 2023 (if there already wasn't a better example) SHOULD have been the eye opener. Unless you're living under a rock (which apparently some of the powers that be are doing). Bob's a great guy and I'm glad I (along with all of you) have the reading ability to know what Bob really means/ wants to say here. Lol

  8. That game needs to be protested by the Catholic Church or something. A portal to Hell may open on the 50 yard line when two teams of Red Devils take the field.

  10. oh yeah...when I am filing my taxes each year, I fixate on that local tax....that one's the killer!!!! Seriously, my beef with taxes is the feds....I appreciate not paying additional taxes across the board and not a fan of rising property tax...but the vast majority of my tax dollars isn't consumed at the local level.

  11. "Unique," lol. "The blind draw gives teams with poor records a chance to play somebody they could possibly beat in the first round. " Didn't that ship leave the port when Team A spent more time weight training in the off-season than Team B? I know this for certain even though I'm over 100 miles away. Those Brownsburg seniors busted their tails for four years for their shot at the state title. This wonderful idea the IHSAA came up with (something 49 other states scratch their heads at), sent those kids packing after one game. Shame on the IHSAA.

  14. Alright, I am in the middle of a Bahamas cruise and way too much alcohol so I guess I rattled some cages with my “right wing” comment. I am way too lit to even try and have a normal conversation and the ball and chain is chewing my tail for even being on the “Net”. If the old cronies can’t figure out that it is best to seed the tourney then there is no hope going forward to have a good tournament. Seeing the best 2 teams playing in the first round is ludicrous. When I sober up in a few days, I will send BTF a PM and tell him where my right wing comment came from. At this point, I ain’t sure…🍺🍺🍺

  15. The majority of high school AD’s do not have quality or good high school football programs. For those ADs at those schools, it was an easy no brainer vote to turn it down. They prefer the random draw because they do not want to get stuck playing the best seeds and teams each and every year. It’s not right, it’ll be very difficult to ever get past this ancient random draw rule.

  16. Exactly. There’s the problem. Schools vote their individual interests. No one is interested in what’s best for Indiana high school football.

  17. PM me. Educate me on the IHSAA having a right wing extremist attitude. I too was surprised that 79% of AD's voted against. I would have guessed closer to 50/50. But if we really dig deep, 79% of the programs probably know they're not making a run to state anyway. So maybe the blind draw is a better opportunity for those schools to advance as far as they can.

  19. Really good point. Also, it's weird to be used as a prop for PR as a high schooler and the guys aren't exactly bouncing off the walls listening to the strength coach. @BLACKGOLD2007 I share a bit of the sentiment in that I don't care for handling our business through this type of contrived PR stunt––I have to believe this is Thacker's work. I'd expect a high school's PR misstep wouldn't be enough to affect your optimism given the number of your thoughtful and intelligent contributions to this board.

  30. Way back during my high school days Maconaquah had a home & away series with scheduled with Madison. It was a Saturday afternoon game IIRC. The Braves were the first to make the trip down south, and the team got to stop at a steakhouse for dinner on their way back home. Unfortunately the next year Madison canceled their reciprocal trip to Bunker Hill. 😞

  32. As gambling becomes more prevalent, it’s only a matter of time before there’s a big scandal. All the gambling apps advertise on sports tv, as I see it the various sports governing bodies are OK with it, as long as there’s money coming in.

  34. I think we agree it was an error for Penn to make their public announcement this way. It always going to be connected to and viewed alongside the masterful production for Notre Dame football by Fighting Irish Media after Freeman was hired with no chance of capturing any of that energy––let alone editing. My contention is that the players' reactions tell us nothing about their willingness to play for Pete. The answer to that question will come on Friday nights.

  35. When Indiana was relevant their roster was dominated by Indiana kids. Look at the IU roster today and look at Purdue’s. Schools that have sustained success have rosters full of local kids. Am I saying don’t go to Illinois to get Isaiah Thomas or Eric Anderson, absolutely not, but geez don’t let Calbert Cheany or Kent Benson go someplace else!

  36. It plays out every year, kids leave before they’re ready, kick around in the G-League for a few years, maybe a year or two in Europe, and then go sell used cars or insurance, best case scenario, we all know where it leads all too often.

  40. Your first sentence leads one way and your second sentence leads the other. You must be an independent. Seriously. I do think there's a correlation between taxes and quality of life. Sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. But I'll never skimp when it comes to our high schools. Professional sports take take a hike.

  41. It's fun to watch as a fan, but the best team doesn't always win in that scenario. I'll take the turf. As a taxpayer, I'm all for anything that improves the high school experience for young people. If that means the band gets to perform on a 1.5 million turf field instead of the mud, then I'm all in. The reason many people gripe about taxes is because it takes away from things like their $150 North Face jacket when they could buy an off brand for $40 that's probably just as good in quality. God forbid if you can't afford to go out and enjoy dinner for two for $100. Go to Applebee's instead. Sure it's less trendy and you're not going to impress your peers while they are out at St. Elmo's, but at least you'll have more money in your pocket for things that are a bit more important.

  42. They need to get their swagger back. "We are Penn. We have 5 state titles. And we have the best record in all of Indiana spanning four decades. Come one come all." If they can do it at Center Grove, they sure as hell can do it at Penn.

  45. More wasted taxpayer dollars. And increased serious injury opportunities for the children playing on such a surface (this is well documented, I will not get into another discussion concerning this proven point again.) All so somebody doesn't have to mow the grass, paint some lines, and sometimes wash muddy uniforms.
