That 1983 team is important despite going 0-10.  It was the impetus for the development of the youth program.

This reminds me of Pioneer in the early 90s, right before Mike Johnson bought in to using the Delaware Wing-T and implementing it in the youth program. However, Pioneer had a very young program and had never really achieved anything as a program. There's an entire story somewhere chronicling Coach Johnson's journey to using the Wing-T, in which he attempted to attend a Wing-T clinic, in another state, just to realize that he had gone on the wrong date. He and his assistant, I want to say Clay Scott, then located the guy who ran the clinic and the guy, feeling sorry for them, let them pick his brain for a few hours, as the story goes. I absolutely love this story because it shows what can be accomplished when dedication and passion are applied to situations of adversity. Also, remember that this was in the early-90s, so there wasn't any internet or probably even cell phones involved.

I thought the article said the coach

I thought the article said the coach was fired, but the brother of the girl involved was being denied a transfer, by both IC and the IHSAA because he was being harrassed.

He was fired as a coach, but the article didn't disclose whether or not he was a teacher as well.

In doing some HNAC searching of girls golf, boys soccer, girls soccer, boys tennis, boys golf and girls tennis, I found the following schools to have the respective sports during the 2022-23 school year.

    GIRLS GOLF

Caston, Culver, Knox, LaVille, North Judson, Pioneer and Winamac.  Triton did not have girls golf this season.

    BOYS TENNIS

    Knox, North Judson, Triton did.

    BOYS SOCCER

Caston, Culver, LaVille and Winamac did.

    GIRLS SOCCER

Culver and LaVille did have a team.

    GIRLS TENNIS

Knox, LaVille, North Judson and Triton did.  The rest did not have girls tennis.

    BOYS GOLF

Caston, Culver, Knox, LaVille, North Judson, Pioneer, Triton, Winamac all had golf this season.

From what I have observed, there seems to be a lot of movement in several conferences this particular school year for whatever reason.

I only hope that every school that would like to be in a conference can find one.

Being in a conference can benefit the student-athlete in a variety of ways, from academic compeition to athletic recognition.

as always, the game is better

Which schools have swimming programs? Pioneer does and I know that Caston and Winamac do not.

no one has mentioned what this brings to the HC.... Mr Happy Burger !

    Wagonmaster going down !

Unfortunately, Bob Shanks sold his remaining restaurant to the owner of Penguin Point and the quality has basically fallen off of a cliff ever since. Employees didn't even receive their paychecks a few months ago and there was speculation that it was going to close down for good. The ice cream bar hasn't been opened since COVID, and I've seen reports that the buffet is no longer open, either. I've had a drive-thru meal since it was sold and it was okay, but I could tell that cheaper, lower quality product was being used.

The other Hap's, on the west side of town, was turned into a pretty good Japanese steak house, however.

I also highly recommend the arcade/record store Bonus Pints. It has a bar and really good food too. It's on Broadway.

Foxbat:  I can assure you that having "the inside track" for NCC/regular seasons victories in football had absolutely nothing to do with Jeff being part of the 70% to vote TSC out of the NCC.  Additionally, your continued posts stating that Jeff is the largest school in the county is not factual. Look up the Fall 2022 ADM enrollment numbers. HHS has officially surpassed Jeff.  Look for Jeff to be hanging out in the range of 1,980-2,090 students moving forward. HHS enrollment growth or the highly competitive games dating back to 2017 had absolutely nothing to do with why we are where we are today.

It is my hope that those within the Lafayette community will continue to see Jeff/HHS/McC continue to play each other on the gridiron in the future.  It is unfortunate we are we are. However, the kids and the communities deserve to be part of those games.

Okay, so what is the actual reason? Transparency is needed here.

Supposedly it was enrollment gap, geography, and competitive imbalance.  Realistically two of those make no sense at all as Jeff is situated between Harrison and McCutcheon geographically and Jeff is currently larger than both McCutcheon and Harrison.  Competitive imbalance because Harrison wins a lot of country club sports like tennis and wins the NCC all sports titles, but when it comes to the mainstream sports there's little dominance by Harrison that also doesn't show up in the Jeff history too.  See post below for more details, at least through 2020, on the competitive balance claim ... especially taking into account that Jeff was one of the schools voting out Harrison.  In essence Jeff is saying in that vote that 1) they can't compete with Harrison or 2) they want to have the inside track to easy football victories again ... because they sure can't be saying that Harrison and McCutcheon are too far away and that Harrison and McCutcheon are too big.

Maybe Jeff will be the next member of the HNAC?

  7. Logansport has seemed to be treading water in many sports recently. They haven't been horrendous in most, but they were a 4A school in a mostly 5A/6A conference. However, they have stuck out like a sore thumb lately demographically in the NCC.

    NCC school population by city

    Indy - 887K

    Lafayette - 70783

    Muncie - 65914

    Kokomo - 59604

    Richmond - 35720

    Marion - 28310

    Logansport - 18366

Keep in mind that I only used the "city" populations, not the metro populations, which are much larger in the larger cities.

This is interesting. A lot of potential dominos could fall depending on the decision the HC makes. I don't know why they would vote them in. Logansport is too big for them. Does this Conference work if certain members can swallow their pride and/or make big changes?

    Logansport

    Harrison

    West Lafayette

    Lafayette Jefferson

    McCutcheon

    Northwestern

    Western

    Kokomo

Logan and Western are both 4A in football.

  9. I was interested in the league until I realized that it involved a reality-house show that I could give two craps about. I also found it to have far too many rules, including not being able to leave your feet, which part of the facial area can be slapped, which part of the hand can be used and etc. I understand that there are safety concerns, but are there really? I mean, it's a sport involving two fit and strong men repeatedly slapping each other, in the face, without any protection or the ability to move.

I watched the first episode and none of the rules were really explained and several fights ended with a slapper losing by DQ, but moving on to the next round because they injured their opponent with an illegal slap. Without the idiotic reality TV formula, both fighters should've been eliminated. Many of the fighters are only receiving a few thousand dollars to compete in the show, which is a joke when considering that Dana White owns it.

Poor analogy.  Even you have to see the difference between celebrating with the fans/celebrating with a "fist pump" vs flexing in your opponents' face and staring them down and holding your hand inches from the floor while running back on D.

There is celebrating and then there is rubbing your opponents' face in it.

    You're trying too hard.

That we can both agree on. So are you against all celebrating?

Perhaps because we’re trying to teach kids fundamentals … including the fundamentals of good sportsmanship and an attitude that focuses on team rather than individuals, since we know that likely none of those kids is ever going to make a living playing football.

While I understand what the point is, I've always found it to be too strict, but maybe that's just me. I see no harm in changing the rules as long as the rule change is simple.

If they're not going to play pro football, why not let them celebrate now and have a bit of fun?

I would be highly in favor of this. I rather Purdue hire someone that isn't going to use Purdue as a stepping stone. Monken is mid '50's with a lot of experience as an OC in college and the NFL. I would like to think he would pull a Joe Tiller and just ride a HC job out to retirement.

He seems like a very good coach, but he has never stayed anywhere for very long.

I haven’t disappeared and that other tag isn’t me. I been here. I’m actually in the hospital. Been really sick and had surgery

If you look at it. It says they were suspended this year and are in probation. Problem is. The transfers we got for this year didn’t play they were only given JV eligible. So they will be here next year. We still have 3-5 more good years coming. Especially with the rest of 5A not looking strong

I get it. I was briefly hospitalized with a bad case of Limp Lip, a very rare condition, after Pioneer was upset by LCC in the 2005 sectional final.
