Back in the one-class era, LCC won zero State Championships. I rest my case.
  2. Maybe it's dumb (to you) but it's also accurate.
  3. Maybe we can start a grass-roots movement in all sports-- the school that wins the highest class tournament is the STATE CHAMPION...the school that wins all of the smaller class tournaments are CLASS CHAMPIONS.

  6. 2 privates just beat 2 publics in 3A Semistate semis. St Joe & Guerin Catholic may meet up in 14 days at State Finals. In 2A, Park Tudor got knocked off by Brownstown Central (hooray!) In the other bracket, defending champion FW Blackhawk is looking for yet another small class title. In addition to the Success Factor, the IHSAA should incorporate an enrollment multiplier as some states do-- multiply p/p enrollment by 1.5 to determine their class. But they never will...
  7. P/P won 12 of the 16 1A sectionals. So I guess you could say that P/P's do have their own class-- unfortunately, it's called 1A.
  8. THREE points to stay up. (IHSAA should have stuck with 2pts) *** I feel bad for the programs that get bumped up at 6 points after back-to-back runner-up seasons. In my opinion, you should stay in enrollment class if you don't have a State Champion trophy in your trophy case. My proposal would be this: 1pt = Sectional champion 2pts = Regional champion 3pts = Semistate champion 5pts = State champion Change the bump-up number from 6pts to 7pts-- State+Regional (or better) would still be a bump-up but Semistate+Semistate would not.
  9. I watched some of the Florida & Texas championship games on Ballys...for free. Gee, how come those states still have title games shown live on Ballys but Indiana does not???
  10. You are exactly right. Due to the covid stuff, Chatard was only moved to 4A for the 2021 season instead of the usual 2-year window. I thought that was kind of BS because nobody benefited from the decision more than Chatard football as evidenced by their State title last year & likely State title this year.
  11. For those who missed the IHSAA October 31 news release about changes to how/where you can watch State Finals for ALL SPORTS & the cost. https://www.ihsaa.org/media/news/all-2023-24-state-finals-stream-exclusively-ihsaa-champions-network-presented-indiana
  12. Every school is now using Digital Ticket services (like Eventlink) who add on a reasonable fee, usually less than $1 per ticket. But then Ticketmaster steps in for the State Finals-- maybe Ticketmaster is forced upon them by Lucas Oil Stadium.
  13. Yes, lots of gray areas & valid arguments to tweak SF in various ways. There is no exact answer as evidenced by the IHSAA's adjustments every few years.
  14. Here is what I see for the Success Factor changes in football for the 2024 & 2025 seasons. Please correct me if I am wrong. (This has been UPDATED AFTER the Semistate games were played.) 1A - Lutheran 7+pts will be moved up to 2A. Adams Central 6+pts will move up to 2A. 2A - LCC 3+pts will remain in 2A. FW Luers 5+pts will move up to 3A if they win State. 3A - Chatard 7+pts will move up to 4A. 4A - East Central 7+pts will move up to 5A. Ev Memorial 2pts* will drop back to 3A. (*due to change made by IHSAA in July '23) 5A - FW Snider 5+pts will move up to 6A if they win State. 6A - Cathedral 3pts will remain in 6A. So the only remaining unknowns involve FW Snider & FW Luers... Adams Central may be back-to-back runner-up but still moved up to 2A. Personally, I don't like this as I feel a school without a State Championship should not be bumped up.
  15. In baseball, basketball, etc, the IHSAA already has the neutral Semistate sites lined up months before the tournament begins. Once the Semistate competitors in each class have been determined, then the IHSAA decides which teams go to which sites based (mostly?) on travel distance. If the IHSAA wanted neutral sites for football, they could do it-- but I don't see that happening. Regarding seeding, I was on the fence until my local team (Franklin Central) unluckily drew the 3-time State Champs Center Grove for sectional game 1 in 2021, 2022, 2023 & counting. So I am a proponent for seeding now. However, based on past history & Commissioner Neidig's public statements (to me, he is saying "No" without actually saying "No"), I just don't think seeding will ever happen. Also, I believe that if the IHSAA seeds for any team sport, they must also seed for all team sports. Football & Basketball have existing Sagarin ratings-- other sports do not.
  16. Both 6A games were phenomenal. Congratulations to all 4 excellent teams.
  17. Here is what I see for the Success Factor changes in football for the 2024 & 2025 seasons. Please correct me if I am wrong. (This was posted BEFORE the Semistate games were played.) 1A - Lutheran 6+pts will be moved up to 2A. Adams Central 5+pts will move up to 2A in they win Semistate. North Judson 4+pts will move up to 2A if they win State. 2A - LCC 3+pts will remain in 2A. FW Luers 4+pts will move up to 3A if they win State. 3A - Chatard 6+pts will move up to 4A. 4A - East Central 6+pts will move up to 5A. Ev Memorial 2pts* will drop back to 3A. 18. https://www.ihsaa.org/sites/default/files/documents/Tournament Success Factor.pdf Looks like the IHSAA did sneak that change past everybody in July. Going forward, 0, 1 or 2 points earned in 2 years sends the school back down. On a positive note, any Success Factor changes (up or down) will be implemented every year instead of after each 2-year window. This will put an end to smaller schools winning 3 straight State championships before being bumped up.
  19. Personally, I would like the IHSAA to make this change to Semistate weekend-- play 6 games Friday & 6 games Saturday instead of all 12 games kicking off at the same time. This year, you could play 1A, 3A, 5A Friday (State Finals are played the following Friday) & 2A, 4A, 6A Saturday (State Finals are played the following Saturday)-- so nobody has a shortened week of practice. Pros: You might sell more tickets because big-time fans could attend 2 games in person. You might sell more all-12 PPV packages because stay-at-home fans could follow twice as many games live. You already do this to a certain extent in other sports with staggered Semistate gametimes in basketball, baseball, etc. Cons: Saturday conflict with college games.
  20. Westfield lost their best WR Gabe A. a couple weeks ago to a knee injury.
  21. FC physically controlled the game for the first quarter & a half. But then the clearly-superior Westfield staff made smart adjustments to put their players in position to win. Westfield's three 2nd half TD passes were beautifully designed plays & executed to perfection-- TE sideline out & up for 81 yards, seam pattern using mismatch of best WR on OLB for 46 yards, wheel to RB with play action misdirection for 60 yards. None of those passes traveled more than 10-15 yards downfield & those receivers were WIDE OPEN. Gilbert & his staff coached circles around West.
  22. Avon (0-7) has a combined 3 wins over the past 3 seasons...Carmel (4-3) lost to BD 45-16...Warren Central (3-4) got mercy-ruled by LN. 10 coaches vote in the 6A poll. If a pollster votes a team #1, that team gets 10 points, #2 gets 9 points, etc. down to #10 gets 1 point. Avon received 4 points this week, Carmel 3 points, Warren 1 point. So it appears that one 6A coach/pollster voted Avon 7th, Carmel 8th, Warren 10th. My theory is that either A) that coach doesn't want to be a pollster anymore & decided to say F-U to other 6A coaches, or B) that pollster mistakenly submitted their ballot from 2019, which is the last time Avon enjoyed a winning record.
  23. To obtain 7 points in a 2-year period, a team would have to be in the championship game both years. In my opinion, 7 points is too many. My guess is you would have considerably fewer teams move up. I have not read the full paper yet-- but my guess is that North Harrison girls bb is a relatively rare example of a team moving up WITHOUT winning at least 1 state title. Many folks on this forum have floated the 4-year cycle idea. I kind of like the 2-year cycle with a "look back" at the previous 2 or 4 years as mentioned in the article.
  24. Does anyone know how this will work? Due to enrollment, North Daviess (2022 boys 1A basketball champion) was going to move up to 2A in boys basketball. However, they opted to play up in 3A for the 2023/2024 2-year cycle. In the just finished 2023 season, North Daviess was a Regional Champion in 3A. So with that 2 points already earned during this cycle, will North Daviess have to continue to play up in 3A boys basketball for the 2025/2026 cycle?
