  1. Saw this tonite. As QB pulled away from nearly being sack, he used the ball to steady himself putting it on the ground momentarily & then the QB avoided a few more tackles for a nice gain. Many of the home fans around me erupted yelling "He's down! The ball touched the ground!" In an effort to be helpful (lol), I told the closest fans they were completely wrong. One guy told me to go sit on the visitor's side. I pointed out that none of the home team coaches seemed to be arguing that call -- a timeout had been called so they had time to argue if they wanted. He didn't accept that rationale either.
  2. Well, we need to get the full scoop on that 1924 & criticize whomever is to blame! I bet those poor kids on the losing end never recovered. Maybe we can ask their Great-Great-Great Grandchildren for some stories of woe. Agree 100%. Back in my day, we were on the short end of a few 40-0 type games. Basic plays by 2nd or 3rd string was just fine. Kneeling down would be akin to taunting.
  3. That's exactly why the IHSAA split 6A from 5A. Due to the large enrollment gap (Schools #1-11 at 3000+, schools 45-64 below 1800) & other factors, the largest schools were dominated the 64-team 5A tournament. So they added 6A in order to make it more equitable amongst those schools. And having a bye week is the best way for it to work. As many have TRIED to explain to you, this is essentially 6 different tournaments. Small schools are not at a disadvantage because they don't play those big schools in the tournament. Are there a few byes in almost every class? Yes. Is this completely fair? No. But you have byes in every IHSAA team sport tournament (which impact pitchers' availability in baseball!)-- it's almost impossible to avoid those without making some schools travel crazy distances in Sectionals.
  4. Good point-- the IHSAA tried it out that way but this way works better. Plus, with more than 34 teams in 5A this year (& 33 next year), there were two 5A games last Friday which mandated a bye week for the rest. You guys wouldn't be pitching a fit if nobody got a bye week like it was back in the days when every class had the same number of teams. Does this mean DT & his followers are SOCIALIST??? (i.e. Everybody deserves to be treated exactly the same...if you have something, I should get it too.)
  5. LOL. Oops. Well, I didn't say it was a perfect, well-thought-out idea...kind of like DT's ideas. Or we could have 5 games on Friday & 5 games on Saturday. LOS would need 2 shifts of employees.
  6. They can play at home on Sunday. HS games would be Thurs-Fri-Sat.
  7. DT's superpower is roping us into these conversations with his ideas to fix things that aren't broken. The only teams who could be at a disadvantage are the 5A schools in 5-team sectionals. When the IHSAA decided to split out 6A for competitive balance purposes, I believe that the plan was to have exactly 32 teams each in 5A & 6A. Not sure why they didn't do that for this 2-year cycle-- maybe due to the Elkhart consolidation or general logistics/travel issues in certain areas of the state. But I don't want to be blasted for disagreeing with DT without offering up my own idea. So here goes-- 320 schools with football = 10 classes, 32 teams each. No change needed to schedule at all-- 9 regular season games, BYE WEEK FOR ALL, 32-team/5-week tournament for each class, 3 day State Finals extravaganza at LOS.
  8. Same here. This never happens to Harrell. Could it be a surprise contraction???
  9. Beech Grove was 5-4. You were thinking of 9-0 Boone Grove up north.
  10. Forgive me if this has been discussed or is in this thread-- does the Mercy Rule apply the same way in the tournament? If so, it could even come into play in some late November games.
  11. Shelbyville returned the opening kickoff of the season for a TD & then didn't score again until game #9??? Oh man, that's tough.
  12. Do any states have this kind of rule? My guess is that the National Federation would have to weigh in as well. Your points are not without merit but this type of rule could backfire if a lot of kids decide to choose 1 sport even though they have the ability to play 2 or 3 sports. Many small schools rely on those multi-sport studs to carry their sports programs.
  13. The coaching staff went to those extraordinary lengths in order to win a season opener against an out-of-state opponent??? Wow. And why was the AD & staff asleep at the wheel too? Edit-- In a follow-up article, I read that the long-time AD decided it was time to retire right now.

  15. Shout out to former Slicer HC Dave Sharpe who is the D-coordinator at HSE now.
  16. Excellent! I am glad to help. Thanks again for running the show!
  17. I will grade any of the small classes. 1A, 2A or 3A. You choose.
  18. Carmel at #4 seems high to me. Here is their path to LOS. I don't see a clearcut favorite in the 6A North this season. Opener at HSE, solid & improving team. #7 Fishers or Westfield in Sectional final. #3 Homestead or #11 Snider in Regional. #2 Laf Jeff, #7 Merrillville or #12 Warsaw in Semi State.
  19. You know that the DEFENDING CHAMP is in! Temptation -- If you need some help, I will volunteer to check 1 or 2 classes.
  20. Maybe the conference can implement a Success Factor of some sort. 😉
  21. Indiana seems to have the right amount of teams & a relatively small geographic area in order to have ALL-IN high school postseason tournaments in every team sport. States like OH, IL, CA have too many schools. If you change the football tournament so that teams must "qualify" for the postseason tournament, then (in my opinion) it's only fair to do that in every other team sport. There's no way the IHSAA will ever do that. So I will never understand why so many Indiana high school football supporters want to take away something good from Indiana high school football players.
  22. Why am I not allowed to point out the STUPIDITY of trying to bring back the Cluster system which was a total ClusterF*** 40 years ago??? The Cluster system is like Ronald Reagan...both belong to the 80s & both are long gone. Let them both Rest In Peace.
  23. So you want the entire field seeded? I'm sure that wouldn't cause controversy. Plus, you would have long travel for early round games. I'm sure no one would bitch about that-- both because the road team would have to sit on a bus for 2-3 hours & only their fans diehard would be make the trip (which means lower attendance). ARE ANY OF THESE BRILLIANT IDEAS EVEN ON THE IHSAA RADAR OR IS IT JUST AN ANNUAL GID FORUM WASTE OF TIME???
