  1. It was an awful bad very horrible night for the MIC. Great night for the HCC. Maybe the best night in conference football history, overall.
  2. Ben Franklin and the alleged lightning strikes the key on the kite string is the genesis of this nickname. Martinsville Artesians
  3. Depends on when the travel is happening. I know BD has traveled before out of state, but I can't imagine traveling across the country. Given the 300 mile rule, it's not an issue in Indiana, and I kind of side with the IHSAA on it.
  4. Not exactly true. BD's non-conference opponents are both ranked in the top 10 in 6A. While Carmel and Warren play national powerhouse Trinity in one non-conference game, they both have teams that don't rank in the top 10 as their other non-conference opponent. Center Grove plays Cathedral and New Pal (both tough teams but not in 6A), LC has HSE and Lafayette Jeff, LN has Perry Meridian and Marion, Pike has Zionsville and Fishers. North Central takes on Fishers and HSE. They're all tough...but BD has the most 6A ranked opponents.
  5. I guess I'm just getting old and forgot that this was going on here in Indiana. Just ignore me. I'm losing it.
  6. There is already a thread on this somewhere.
  7. How do you think the new play clock rules are going to work this year? Which teams will benefit?
  8. Based on the preseason Coaches Poll, Ben Davis will play... #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #7, #13, #15 and Pike. That's a schedule.
  9. I'll take Center Grove in this one in a low-scoring slobberknocker.
  10. I love this conference. It's always interesting. Quality coaching and quality play.
  11. BD's a great place. The challenges are different, and the rewards are great.
  12. I don't want people to read anything into what I am writing. There is no subtext to Mike. He says exactly what he means. He's no nonsense, honest and direct. He left because he thought it was time to do something else. He wanted a bit of a different pace. He wasn't looking when Mt. Vernon found him. As Kyle Neddenriep wrote: "But Kirschner said himself that this move was more about needing a change of pace than it was about moving up the coaching ladder. Coaching at Ben Davis is time-consuming job. There are more than 200 kids in the program and it is a year-round commitment. Kirschner, at age 56, was not ready to give up coaching, but was ready to see it from a different angle." Mike worked incredibly hard. It was a 24 hour job for him year around, and his family is a football family. Mama Kirsch is all in. I will always love and respect Coach Kirschner for the man he is and the job he did getting the Giants back to Championship level football. I have nothing to say bad about him, ever. Coach Simmons is not wholly unfamiliar to BD. He was an assistant under Tom and Mike and was an Assistant AD before he left to go to Noblesville. He knows the rigors of the job.
  13. It's my opinion. Others may have different opinions. I believe Temptation's prediction is not that far off of mine, given the competiton. With Brownsburg and Avon up first, we'll see what the picture looks like. You win both of those, then we're looking at a team that's probably pretty good. As far as Kirschner's departure goes, he was burnt out at BD and ready for another challenge. I know that's hard for people to accept, but that's what happened. I have a lot of respect for Jason. He took his lumps last year, and he's now had a full offseason to coach 'em up. People won't reboot their expectations, so it's going to be important to show progress from year one to two. I don't think he'd disagree with that.
  14. Glad that Coach Simmons has had a full offseason under his belt. The Giants seem focused in for 2019. I think we'll know pretty fast how they're going to be with Brownsburg and Avon in the first two weeks. I think the Giants need to win one of those first two games or at least be very competitive in both. 13 returning starters is great plus lots of experience. Critical year for the BD program, IMO. BD has to re-establish itself in the upper tier of the MIC, and that won't be easy with NC moving up into that level last year and LC and LN bidding for that this year.
  15. These are the kinds of comments written by someone who doesn't understand the MIC. It is a curious pickup for Warren, but they're always going to be searching for a game at that time with the way their schedule is constructed, and it probably won't be anyone in a major conference since they're mostly all wrapping up that week.
  16. It's not much of a rivalry yet, but Ben Davis and Brownsburg has the potential to be a very good one. The Giants actually lead this series, 5-0. Year Giants Score Bulldogs Score TIE/OT Location 1980 Ben Davis 35 Brownsburg 7 Brownsburg 1981 Ben Davis 15 Brownsburg 7 BD 2007 Ben Davis 35 Brownsburg 13 BD 2008 Ben Davis 45 Brownsburg 10 Brownsburg 2011 Ben Davis 38 Brownsburg 31 (2OT) BD 2016 Ben Davis 49 Brownsburg 13 Brownsburg
  17. Ben Davis has to be happy with its Sectional draw. Southport is always tough, but Tech and Perry have been struggling mightily. The way the rest of the tourney is structured means that you'll only get either Center Grove or Warren at Semi-State.
  18. So, I'd have to think BD is pretty happy with its draw after the last few years of what it had in Sectional and Regional. It's only a good draw though if you win, and Regional is pretty tough!
