  1. Game 1 - This was a pretty "Ugly" game for the most part . Jasper led 14-11 @ the half . Despite committing around 30 turnovers for the game , Jasper built a double figure lead in the 4th . The Jeeps tried to make it interesting in the 4th but it was too little , too late & they fell to the Wildcats 54-48 . Game 2 - Southridge committed 8 turnovers in the 1st quarter & fell behind early 23-8 . FP led 36-18 @ the half & won going away 68-49 . Hayes led the Raiders with 11 . Colson Montgomery & Joe LaGrange chipped in with 10 apiece respectively . Sam Englert paced FP with 22 & Trever Zink scored 17 . Daniel Lusk chipped in with 8 & Isaac Uebelhor came off the bench & played well for the Rangers also scoring 8 . Curt Hopf got into major foul trouble only scoring 5 as did Collin Hochgesang . Braydon Voegerl rounded out the scoring with 3 . Consolation game - This was never really close . Southridge bounced back & got a big lead early against the Jeeps & was never in any trouble & won going away 60-34 . Colson Montgomery led Southridge with 21 points . Championship game - The Rangers trailed early 10-2 @ the 5:03 mark but this reminded me of the FP/Tell City game where the Rangers outscored the Marksmen 50-10 in the last 3 quarters . In the last 29:03 of the game , FP outscored Jasper 53-24 . FP held a slim 14-13 lead after 1 & held a 21-18 lead @ the half . FP extended the lead to 10 after 3 outscoring Jasper 17-10 to lead 38-28 . The Rangers outscored the Wildcats 17-6 in the 4th to win easily 55-34 . The Rangers had 4 players in double figures . Sam Englert , the Rangers leading scorer coming in , struggled finishing around the basket & only ended up with 4 points . The Freshman , Curt Hopf had a nice bounce back game & led the Rangers with 15 . Daniel Lusk chipped in with 12 & as usual had a great all-around performance . He played well offensively & defensively . Trever Zink & Collin Hochgesang added 10 apiece respectively for FP . Isaac Uebelhor & Elliott Rothgerber rounded out the scoring for FP with 2 each . Sam Englert was named the Tourney MVP . Not taking anything away from Sam because he's the Rangers leading scorer on the season for a reason but on this day , it could have easily been Trever Zink or Daniel Lusk & probably should have been . Both were consistent . Jasper cut it to 30-28 in the 3rd & FP ripped off 8 in a row starting with a big 3 from Zink . Zink played well for the most part offensively & Daniel had a nice day in both games on both ends . They should have been CO-MVPS . The Rangers move to 6-0 on the young season despite playing without their top defensive player from a year ago in guard, Noah Fleck . He is out with an injury & could possibly be back sometime towards the end of January . The Rangers should be well rested as they are off until Dec.28th-29th when they host their own 8-team tourney . FP will play 3 games in that ( 2 on Thursday & 1 on Friday) . FP opens with Eastern(Pekin) (3-4) @ 10 AM. Christian Academy (3-2) plays Tecumseh (4-3) in the other game of that bracket . The other bracket features Lanesville (4-2) vs. Milan (5-2) . The other game in that bracket will pit Salem (6-1) vs. Southridge (2-3) . Hopefully , the Rangers can continue their success & win their own tourney . They have a ways to go on offense or IMO they should get better offensively & I think that will come . They have played some stingy defense throughout the season only allowing 39.3 PPG . If the offense continues to improve & they continue to hold teams down , they will have a successful season & shouldn't lose no more then 4 in the regular season if that & they could make some noise in the postseason which they can't take for granted with some potential strong teams in their Sectional & what appears to be a very strong Paoli Regional .

    Tell City @ Forest Park

Not sure but whatever they were doing , it wasn't working . I just think they were in panic mode when FP came back & really looked nervous once FP put pressure on them . I think if your physical with Tell City the Marksmen are trouble & if you can contain Beard & Arnold , they don't have enough other guys that are going to beat a good team . When Tell City got down , they couldn't even hit free throws it was bothering them so much . I guess they are fine when they have a lead but look pretty shaky otherwise .

    Tell City @ Forest Park

Beard played last night for Tell City & looked to be 100% ! He just took some ill-advised shots in my opinion & he was getting frustrated with the good defensive pressure FP put on him & the entire Marksmen team in the last 3 quarters .
  4. For the 2nd time in as many games , the Rangers got off to a slow start trailing Tell City 10-0 . FP Senior , Sam Englert , picked up his 2nd foul with just a little over 4 minutes to play in the 1st quarter & had to sit the rest of the half . Freshman Curt Hopf scored the 1st FP point with a little over 3 minutes to play in the 1st & he ended up scoring all 5 of the Rangers points trailing 12-5 after 1 . Despite Englert's foul troubles in the 1st half , with the offensive attack from Hopf ( 7 in the 2nd quarter) combined with a great defensive effort FP was able to outscore the Marksmen 19-4 in the quarter to take a 24-16 lead @ the break . The great defensive effort continued to begin the 3rd & Sam Englert got involved on the offensive end to help the Rangers go on a 12-0 run to actually make it a 31-4 run sandwiched between the 2nd & 3rd quarters . The onslaught continued in the 4th as Tell City was getting frustrated turning the ball over & FP defenders in their face . The Rangers outscore the Marksmen 50-10 after the 1st & win going away 55-22 ! The Rangers had a balanced offensive attack as Hopf led the way with 14 . Englert ended up with 13 despite playing about 1/2 of the game . Daniel Lusk scored 8 & was a huge part of FP's defensive effort & Trever Zink scored 7 . It was a nice win for FP after the slow start to pickup a huge PAC win early in the year against a TC team that should end up being pretty decent & be among the top tier in the conference . Beard played his 1st game for TC since sitting out with (Appendix) . He was active but IMO , he forced a lot of shots & you could tell he was getting frustrated . Not sure what he ended up with ? Trent Arnold is a nice player but he was a non-factor for TC in the loss . With the win , FP moves to 2-0 on the season & they have a double weekend next week playing @ home on Friday against Loogootee & traveling to Washington to do battle with the Hatchets on Saturday , which should be a pretty decent game . FP usually struggles @ Washington so I guess will see what happens ?
  5. Played @ Bloomington South in front of a packed house , #1 ranked New Albany got off to a quick start leading 13-2 behind 9 points from Romeo Langford but this was a game of runs. The Panthers closed the quarter with a 9-4 run to cut the Dogs lead to 17-11 . Bloomington South scored the 1st 12 points of the 2nd quarter to actually make it a 21-4 run & lead 23-17 before NA scored again . The Panthers built their lead to as many as 7 @ 28-21 late in the quarter before NA went on a little 5-0 spurt to cut Bloomington South's lead to 28-26 @ the half . 6'6" Sophomore Trey Hourigan opened the 3rd with a 3 to give the Dogs a 29-28 advantage , their 1st lead since early in the 2nd when the score was tied 17 apiece . A Panther 3 by Anthony Leal on the next trip down the floor gave South a 31-29 lead. NA scored the next 4 leading 33-31 followed by a 5-0 spurt by South for a 36-33 advantage . New Albany would then score the next 13 to take a 46-36 lead . South cut it to 49-41 @ the end of 3 . NA scored the 1st basket to begin the 4th to build a double figure lead & had an 11 point advantage 55-44 early in the 4th . South wouldn't go away though as they went on a 9-2 run to cut the advantage to 57-53 midway through the 4th but they would get no closer as the Dogs went on a 13-5 run to end the game giving them a 12 point win , their biggest margin of the game . Bloomington South Senior , Chance Coyle , who is a USI commit went 14-17 from the field & had a game high 38 points . Graham came off the bench for South getting 13 (all in the 1st 3 quarters) but only 3 other South players scored & had a combined 7 points . The difference in the game which featured 2 ties & 6 lead changes was the help that Romeo received from his teammates . Romeo was doubled & triple teamed all night long & instead of forcing the issue , the team player that he is , took what the defense gave him & his teammates came through in a big way ! Romeo did lead the Dogs in scoring with 24 points , 10 rebounds . Sean East who only had 2 @ the half , ended with 20 including 13 in the 4th . 6'3" Sophomore Julien Hunter had another double double with 10 points , 10 boards . Derrick Stevenson , a 6-2 Jr. , scored 9 & had 7 big points in the 3rd quarter & Trey Hourigan , a 6'6" Sophomore finished with 7 in his 2nd career start . New Albany outscored a top quality opponent in Bloomington South in the 4th 21-17 without a field goal from Romeo (2 points from the line) . Romeo will see that defense all year long against great teams & it was a great quality win against a top 10 team on the road winning by double figures & getting help from his teammates . NA has a challenging schedule early & that is what it's going to take not only early but through the course of the season & postseason if NA wants to have a chance to win another State title . NA won't go undefeated this year but it certainly helps when Romeo can depend on his teammates a little bit . On the season , in 2 games , Romeo is Avg . 36 PPG & 10 rebounds . He now has 2,151 points moving him up to 21st on the scoring list passing Kemp , Macy , Rowan , Lewis , Mount , & Makenzie . I believe he would pass former Pike Star , Chris Thomas , in his next game on Dec. 2nd @ home vs. Evansville Harrison . Note : On the season , in addition to Romeo's 36 PPG , 10 RPG Avg. , Sean East is having a fine season Avg. 21 PPG , Julien Hunter is Avg. 10 PPG , 10 RPG , Derrick Stevenson is Avg. 8.5 PPG , Trey Hourigan is Avg. 7 PPG & Darin Starks another Sophomore is Avg. 3.5 PPG & I believe he will just get better as the season progresses .

Good Games in SW Indiana on Jan 12th?

Probably don't mean much because it was a scrimmage but Forest Park beat Bloomfield Saturday night 75-40 . I heard that Bloomfield got a foreign exchange student about 6-7 or 6-8 & I saw a kid that looked about that size on the bench but he didn't play because the rumor is he has been sick . FP was without one of their top if not their top perimeter defensive player . Originally Noah Fleck was suppose to be out around 4-6 weeks but just heard today that he has to get a screw inserted in his foot & will have surgery next week & the earliest he will be back will be late January .

    PAC Conference 2017-2018

I'll go ahead & make my predictions for the conference records in the PAC , someone has to ! I believe I remember most of the impact players coming back for the teams . Included in my predictions (Records) are the Freshman in the conference that I think could be impact players & also where teams play each other . FP may have a starter , Noah Fleck , out for the start of the season but I'm not sure ? He may have a cracked bone in his foot but that's just what I heard . Forest Park 7-1 Heritage Hills , North Posey , Gibson Southern 6-2 Tell City , Southridge 4-4 Pike Central 2-6 South Spencer 1-7 Tecumseh 0-8

Dave , do you know when the preview for all the boys & girls teams are going to be in the Evansville courier ?

    Romeo cuts list to 7

To be honest with you , I think one of the reasons that he doesn't have Purdue on the list anymore is I believe Painter may have showed less interest for whatever reason ? I think he saw how many other big name schools were on Romeo's list & maybe didn't think he had a very good chance to get him , so instead of concentrating on Romeo a lot like some others are doing , he may be concentrating on players that he thinks he may have a better chance of getting . I'm pretty sure if Crean was still @ IU , Romeo wouldn't have them on his list very high either but every since Archie took over , he made it clear that Romeo was their #1 option . I figured Phinesee would end up @ Purdue . I was kind of surprised when he committed to IU . Maybe it's an Archie thing , who knows ?

    Romeo cuts list to 7

Yeah , it wouldn't shock me at all if he chooses Vanderbilt . I've read several different articles on many occasions where Romeo was very high on Bryce Drew's coaching style there . He said he has the program heading into the right direction & he gets his players ready for the next level . He also made it very clear that they have a great academic program & he wants to go to school for engineering . So it would make a lot of sense for him to attend Vanderbilt & it's not real far from home . I just hate for him to leave the State of Indiana !

    Romeo cuts list to 7

I've talked to Romeo a few times during his high school career & he is a good kid . Everyone has their opinions on where he might go including myself & everyone hears the rumors . I believe the 3 teams that he is interested in the most as of now are IU , Vandy , & Kansas & many believe Kansas is the frontrunner but he's not suppose to make a decision until the Spring so things could change a lot between now & then . I also know that he is really close to his family so I have a hard time believing he will end up @ Kansas unless his family moves but I could be totally wrong on that aspect . By the time it's all said & done , Romeo will make a decision that best fits him . No matter where he goes , he has a bright future ahead of him Whether he plays 1 year of college or more . I'm probably one of the few who thinks he will attend college more then 1 year but it really depends on the situation ? Romeo not only has a chance to make it to the next level after his college days but I believe he has a chance to be an impact player @ the next level ! Will see what happens ?

    PAC Conference 2017-2018

Yeah , I was neighbors with Colson's dad when we were in high school @ Forest Park . TJ was a very good high school player & I talk to him every so often . Looking forward to watching Colson play some this year when I'm not watching Forest Park & New Albany play . May dads from New Albany & I have several relatives still in the area & lived there myself for around 2 years . Been following them for a really long time but I just love high school basketball in general . Can't wait for the season to start !

    PAC Conference 2017-2018

The conference should be much stronger this upcoming season IMO . I expect Heritage Hills , Forest Park , Tell City , North Posey , & Gibson Southern all to have really good years & expect Southridge to be much improved ! Anxious to see how the Freshman from Forest Park , Heritage Hills , & Southridge adapt to the varsity level & how much of an impact they will make ? I believe South Spencer also has a Freshman that may be able to contribute @ the Varsity level right away . I think it may be Kelley's brother ?

    Prep Hoops freshman showcase.

I'm surprised Colsen Montgomery wasn't listed ? I think he will make a huge impact for Southridge this season .
