Ah. Guess that works. Our schedule seems to be getting changed alot this year. Looks like adding Rock Creek over Farmersburg...CC at 8 means we dropped Washington after 1 year (rather play Washington). Maybe we can get Providence down the road too

Washington wanted out. I believe something to do with their conference and conference schedule. If CC is in the PLAC then we have to play them or we have no chance of being a conference champion or getting player all conference accolades.

  2. After 20 years as an assistant coach at WW and 1 year as the interim head coach, I am excited to say that the future of the program is under the lead of another great man and mentor for young people.

I thrilled to officially announce that the Coach Jeremy Lowery was recommended and approved by the West Washington School Board at last night's meeting. With his family on hand Coach Lowery was welcomed with open arms into the Senator Family.

In the link below you will find a press conference from the this morning. Our digital media students that participate in our school's internet radio station (WWSR) organized and produced the press conference.

West Washington Varsity Football Head Coach-

West Washington is a 1A south program that plays in the Patoka Lake Athletic Conference. West Washington is a community with deep pride in their football program. The program has had a lot of success in the past.

Our story is pretty well known. With the passing of our head coach Phillip Bowsman during the 2019 season, the 2020 season brought a lot of challenges emotionally. Despite the challenges, the 2020 season was a success. The board decided that the navigation of the season should be steered by a coach familiar with the players, specifically the senior class. Therefore, I was the asked to be the Interim Head Coach.

With the conclusion of the 2020 season, the board and community are ready to turn the page on this chapter and move forward.

  5. Coach Gaddis obviously has had an amazing career and the victories speak for themself.

I will remember Coach Gaddis as one of the greatest ambassadors for the sport of football. He is a leader amongst coaches. What he has done for the IFCA and the coaching fraternity will have an impact that lasts forever.

For our staff at West Washington, he graciously hosted us for an afternoon to talk about all things football. We shared film and he shared film with us. He helped us install some of the fundamental elements of the offense that we have run for the past 4 seasons.

I will always be grateful for how much he mentored other coaches and for his leadership in the IFCA and Region 10.

  6. "IHSAA football games on Friday, Nov. 20, may continue utilizing IHSAA guidance that requires local health departments and communities to determine stadium capacity. The IHSAA will work with the Marion County health department on a limited spectator plan for state championship games at Lucas Oil Stadium."

I see both sides of the coin. Schools are losing gate revenue so they are doing the PPV. For someone like you who has a family of 4 and pays $20 at the gate but $10 online you are saving money. For others that are a lone person who would be attending a game they would be losing money $10 vs $5. I get it though and don't complain.

What I found to be a bigger issue was the news release I saw on Twitter from Mooresville. After their game against Danville was cancelled and they picked up Leo changing from a home game to an away. It stated that only one parent per player was allowed to attend the game. That was a little surprising. I figured they would give it for 2 parents. Thankfully for the Mooresville fans it says they made a deal with Leo to be able to stream the game with their broadcast team and it was on IHSAATV for free. I just can't imagine being the parents of a Senior and only 1 of you can go.

The away team is at the mercy of the number of tickets that the home team gives them. And each school is at the mercy of their local health department and the size of the crowd they allow. One per player seems low.

Schools and athletic departments do not like this, but we are playing a season and that is the most important thing.

JV West Washington beat Clarksville 16-6.

Thank you to West Washington for traveling to Clarksville.

It was a good physical JV football game. Our kids had fun and the sportsmanship shown between the players was great. It was a longer bus ride than normal for a JV game, but the kids were just thrilled to play.

Crawford is listed as needing a game this Friday. Guess WW is a no go for friday

West Washington is GOOD TO GO. Crawford will not play due to WW being virtual this week related to a positive Covid-19 case within the HS. No one on the team or coaching staff was affecting by the contact tracing and everyone is cleared to play. WW is NOT quarantined.

Now we search for an opponent....

Not that I care what you do but I'm curious. Why wouldn't you accept head coaching pay? You are doing the work and putting the time in. I know you're not doing it for the money. Most coaches don't but I know a few that do. It just seems fair to me that you get paid.

Mainly because it clears up SOME conflict questions. The pay will go back into the program and used to purchase things for the team and players that may not be able to afford practice packs, cleats, etc.

It is a HUGE understatement to say that this is less than an ideal situation for dozens of reasons. The obvious, we would all prefer to be standing beside and led by our dear friend Coach Bowsman.

Secondly, the Superintendent being the head coach is obviously problematic. I have been fortunate to be allowed to work as a unpaid assistant/offensive coordinator while being the Superintendent for the last 5 years. I have coached for 20 as a varsity assistant all at WW, 19 with Phillip and 13 years as OC. It is my hobby, a passion and a chance to be close with kids and have a group of peers (coaching staff). It is my full intention to do this for one season only. For this team and these seniors.

This team is special for a lot of reasons. One, they are good. BUT more importantly, they are extremely close and have been coached by Coach Bowsman since 3rd grade. The events of the last 5 months has only made them closer. Holden, Phillip's son and Quarterback/Captain will be a senior leading this team on the field. For all of them continuity was the #1 consideration.

Honestly, this is putting my neck out professionally because it is controversial and already has some people spitting vitriol words, but this is about this team, these seniors and next season.  And I would do anything for them.

In writing this I did fail to mention a few things.

    1) This is an interim title and will be for the 2020 season only.

    2) I will NOT accept pay for this position or the summer stipend that is a part of the HC's pay.

  13. I know that soliciting is probably frowned upon on this site and I do apologize.

    Iam asking a few things-

Have the tough coversation about mortality with your spouse.

Reach out to a financial adviser to ensure you are properly insured. Most people have coverage (including Coach Bowsman), but few have enough.

    Please consider-

The last 10 days have been devastating. The remaining weeks and months we will get to our new "normal". For the family there will be many first that make the grieving process particularly difficult. The first basketball game without Phillip in the stands, the first holiday get together, etc.

Adding stress to their new "normal" are the enormous expenses that have already begun to roll in associated with coaches care during his hospital stay. In addition to that the ability to maintain and survive without the majority of a household income in the future is a stress that should be furthest from the families mind.

Many of you have already reached out with support of hugs, tears and stories. I ask that you please consider donating to this family. The Bowsman's have always been the family that did the giving. Providing for the needs of players past and present, leading coaches families to do their own "angel" program (providing a wonderful Christmas to players and their families), and so much more. I now ask you to pour into this family, a family that for so long has been doing the pouring into others.

For those that are local, I ask that you donate directly at the First Harrison Bank in Salem (Bowsman Family Fund). For those of you that are not local, cannot make it directly to the branch or that are not a part of our community but touched by this story....PLEASE donate here!

  14. I have had questions after the news coverage and the previous announcement of Coach Bowsman's passing. I hope this clarifies. Thank you all for your outpouring of support.

An Honor Walk is for people that have chosen to do a total organ transplant. In most cases the family is there and medical staff at the hospital step outside to honor the donor. The family can invite others and Beth chose to include our community and team.

The hallway is lined and the donor is walked through the crowd to have their organs harvested.

Coach Bowsman was deemed medically deceased on Monday 1:19 PM. His body was maintained and yesterday they harvested his organs. 2 of his organs are already been matched to individuals for life saving organ transplants and can potentially save up to 8.

  15. As a tribute to Coach Bowsman, I had a cross fashioned that stands 6'3" tall (I thought he was more like 6'2", but he always said he was 6'3"). It is placed at the 50 yard line,on the home sideline just on the field of play (where Coach roamed, despite repeated warnings to "get back").

Community members, students, staff and former players and coaches have visited to share memories of coach and leave mementos and grieve the loss of a great man. We thank you all for your prayers and support.

Congrats! @senatorcoach72 I think the key to the game was that goal line defense that made them settle for a field goal instead of a touchdown at the end of the first half. That was huge!

Have never been to Lutheran, according to Google Maps it looks like home and visitor fans are on the same side of the field? Can anyone confirm?

When we played there in the past they did not, but I thought I saw some film where they did. No help here.

    Field conditions will be great.

  17. A PLAC team in the Final 4!

A team absent some top players; a D1 BIG10 scholarship player, our returning 2,400 yard rusher, our strongest D linemen, and their center/NT.

Most 1A teams would crumble under that, not this team.

Next week will be a HUGE challenge,  but our kids do NOT back down.

  18. In the PLAC, conference selection is based on how you finished in the conference and the team's coach places their players in the positions they want them (if available). First place gets 8 players, second place 7 players, etc. A player may only fill one position. The exception is kicking and punting, decided by all coaches and supported by stats. By getting Holden on as a punter our team was able to have 9 players, it was something that was discussed by the WW staff and discussed with our QB. His response was exactly what we have come to expect, "get the extra player on".

    Sectional 48:

Two teams again who met in the season, with a dominant win by the Senators 44-19 in week 7.  Philip Bowsman has coached W.Washington to 93 wins in his 13th year,  earning top 10 rankings in 1A to close the season.  Their only defeat came at the hands of 3A 6-4 Salem 22-6 in the last week of regular season.  They have rolled through 2019 with wins of 34-30 over 6-5 2A Paoli, and a 50-22 decisive win over 7-4 North Daviess last week.   They’ve also beaten 4-6 Springs Valley twice along the way.  After a few down years, the Commodores have come on strong under Coach Greg Gibson, having won 4 in a row, incluing a 42-12 win over North Central (2-9) last week.  The problem for Perry is they are 0-4 against winning teams with losses to 5-5 2a Tell City 12-6, 6-5 2a Forest Park 30-20 to start the year, then a 28-6 loss to Paoli along with the loss to the Senators.  Their biggest wins would have to be 28-22 over 4-6 Springs Valley and 29-14 over 4-6 2A Mitchell.  Both of these teams have solid post-season creds with Perry Central making two runs to State Finals (2001 lost to Southern Wells 30-7, 1999 losing to LCC 59-7).  PC hasn’t been in a sectional final since a loss to Linton in 2013 42-9, but they did win many times- 2010 over Linton 2817, 2006 over Springs Valley 41-0, 2005 over WWash 26-7. Those last two years were tough as they reached Semi-States both times losing each by a single point (21-20 to Ritter,  22-21 to Knightstown).  They have 4 more Sectional titles to total 7 over the years.  The Senators have 4 sectional titles to their resume… a 14-6 win over North Daviess most recent in 2015 where they lost the Regional to Linton 35-13.  They got another in 2012 with a 24-7 win over Milan, losing again to Linton 28-0 in Regional.  But WW has been close several times with 8 games for a shot at the sectional crown since 2000.

Awesome write up. Just for clarification, WW beat N. Decatur 14-6 in 2015 Sectional Championship.

That is a powerful story, I don't have to tell you. You lived it. I have always been impressed by the grit and effort of your teams. Character is revealed in the toughest of times, your kids are examples of that. You have done a great job considering the circumstances.
