In the 1st half, Jasper and North had a some costly mistakes, but the cats, down 21-7, cleaned theirs up and the scored scored late in the 2nd quarter to tie.  The cats D came up big the 2nd half, and North continued to make some costly mistakes. North, balancing the run with passing, ran over the cats the 1st quarter, despite a turnover. After the cats D figured out the North passing game, they also slowed their run game, and was able to put a lot of pressure on the QB. Cats D 2nd half was outstanding. Best 3 quarters cats played in a long time.

Believe it or not? Cats had 2 passing TDs.

Anyone at the Jasper/Bosse game have a summary?    Was it close at all?  What about Memorial/MD?   How in the heck did MD keep it so close when they literally couldn’t stop Castle’s offense if they would have at 15 players on the field?

Jasper/Bosse both scored 1st possession, Jasper D stiffened up, and offense scored 3 unanswered TDs, 28-6 at halftime.  They pretty much traded TDs the rest of the game. Wagner must had 300 yards!

    300 yards rushing!

  4. 2nd game of the season the tailback/back up QB muffed the pitch back. Tailback pursues the ball backwards. As the tailback is leaning over the cover up the ball, defender pushes him in the back, slamming him to the turf, resulting in a season ending shoulder injury. I understand this is not a violation, should it be in high school?

I agree, at one point both teams were down double digit starters this season and still faces it too

Jasper can win if they can control the Tigers passing game, notice I didn’t say stop. But everybody knows that. Had one one significant contributor out (not coming back) for the Alice’s.  Who knows tonite, have seen players seem healthy at the end of a game, only to see them in street clothes the next few games.

Can’t talk about Vincennes/Jasper without posting Gunner Wyman’s hilarious headstone:

The  Jasper/Tell City rivalry intensified when Gunner was at Tell City back in the early 60s, he had some very competitive teams and was highly respected. I thought that rivalry was probably more intense in football than in basketball. Some time after Gunner went to Vincennes, that rivalry intensified, and it peaked after the controversial baseball sectional final, (2005?) went to 14 innings, Jasper winning. The Tell City rivalry waned eventually, and the Vincennes rivalry isn't what it used to be. I miss the Tell City rivalry the most, it was mutual respect after the game, not so much for Vincennes. I was lucky enough to participate in and witness some amazing events. There was also an interesting story regarding the name "Gunner" came about.

Yes I do hope we keep our non-conference games with the SIAC. The no brainer is the the opener with Bosse. That was a non-con game even before joining the conference in 2020. Hoping to add another Evansville opponent similar in size to VL. The Alices will return nearly their entire starting roster from 2021 so a contract with a strong opponent would be beneficial.

And of course..the VL/Jasper rivalry MUST stay intact at all costs…which is probably my biggest qualm with leaving the conference.  I know it’s been really one sided towards the Cats the last few years in both major sports, but traditionally these schools are back and forth cyclically. As I recall, the Salters led  2017 and 2018 Lincoln teams were a big reason why Tony Ahrens was ousted and Lewis was hired…lest we forget. And there was a point not that long ago that Jasper simply could not beat Lincoln in a meaningful basketball games.. so I’m begging that AD’s from both schools figure this out for football. Basketball less of a schedule problem.

Ahrens was not ousted and "reason why Tony Ahrens was ousted' is laughable.

One TO was a Hail Mary at the end of the half.  Did not really affect the game.

Another was on the goal line.  Jasper held NV, got the ball in good field position and scored on that short field drive, so that really did not affect them.

NV also fumbled on the goal line.

So the two TOs in the second half are the ones that mattered.

I watched the game on the replay and the TO factor was not as important at the fact that NV just outplayed Jasper.

Espcially when they were on offense.  Jasper did not tackle well and the NV WRs were running around open all  night.

"I will say there was a lot of missed holding calls from the refs, but that is still no excuse"  When you say that in your post, you are using it as an excuse.

Jasper had been giving up big plays to bad teams like VL, Bosse and Harrison all season.

NV was very well coached and executed very well.  Jasper overlooked them.

4-5 turnovers were a huge factor, which gave NV more scoring opportunities, more TOP,  and Jasper fewer. Also #32 did not dress, so he could not not spell #30, playing both ways. Don't know if we overlooked them, not a mind reader,  but they played an outstanding game, deserved to win, and came out more aggressive from the start and we did not match it. It was similar to the Evansville North game, which we survived, 20-13,  due to fewer turnovers, despite #32 not being available for nearly the entire game. The Huskies came out very aggressive, and I felt outplayed us most of the game.  The missed holding calls were a factor, especially a "tackle" in one 50-60 yard play, and the 3-4 starters in street clothes, but good teams know these things happen to everybody and must overcome those challenges. Losing an onside kick was also significant. Giving up big plays haunted us most of the season, but we overcame them before this game.  You can call all of these excuses, or simply identify the multiple factors that affected the outcome of the game and need to be improved.  Going undefeated in the conference exceeded my expectations. Our coaches and players will learn from this setback, and with the freshman and JV losing only one conference game combined, I expect to compete for a conference title again soon and advance deeper in to the playoffs. Expectations are always high here.

Correct. It was 14-7 at half and 28-21 with 4 minutes left in the game. Seems like it was much closer than the score indicates. At the end of the first half, Reitz recovered a fumble in the end zone that was miscalled as down and didn’t come away with points to end the half. Then obviously the two pick-sixes proved costly for the Panthers. They seem to be much improved this season though. Hard to say who the best SIAC team is this early, but would not be shocked at all if it’s Jasper. Will be very interested in the Jasper-Castle and Jasper-MD game.

Panthers are for real. Their running back went down 2nd quarter and never came back. He was tearing us up until that point. Would have been a different game with him in there. Gave us all we all we could handle and more. Other than the 2 pick 6s, passing game was outstanding. If they stay healthy, they will contend for the conference championship.

  10. Ugly scene. Traveled to Tell City, best rivalry ever,  back in the mid seventys, for a football game with a carload of friends. One guy had  way too much to drink. The game was a bitter battle, lots of penalties, the lead changing hands. We ended up losing a close game, and immediatly after the game the band come on the field, presumably to celebrate as we were walking out. My inebriated friend went out on the field and was pushing the drum major around during the performence. Two guys rushed out on the field and gave him a proper beatdown.

A word on Sagarin.  After last night, Northview is still higher than Jasper...  Having seen Northview and Jasper, there is absolutely no comparison.  Northview might win 2 games in the SIAC, maybe.  Sagarin is still way off. We were 21 point underdogs last night per Sagarin.

Has anyone else noticed that the Sagarin  ratings have changed midweek on at least 2 occasions?
