Perhaps....I have pretty certain in the case of CG, administration didn't seek individual's opinions on turf fields on GID before deciding on turf for football, soccer, baseball, etc.  They certainly would have done their research, but just don't think they consider opinions of fans on GID.  But, perhaps they are in the minority......

Now, do coaches visit GID and share opinions of various members?  I can get my arms around that.....

I would hope they don't. I think turf fields are less about common opinion and more about dollars and sense. I'll advocate for turf fields all day. I think studies show that they are more cost effective in the long run? And even if they aren't, I think it's a service to young people to give them turf instead of mud. It isn't just about high school football. You have youth football, the occasional middle school game, the band, track and field, and maybe soccer..............other countless activities as well.

Do you think Administrators seek out GID as a viable source to help them with decision-making?  That was my point.

If they do, well, I just learned something.

I'm not sure if they do or don't. All I know is that this forum gets a hell of a lot more views than what's coming from just the members. I think the GID offers a lot of good information and insight on important topics. Enough so that I think you'd be surprised at who really views many of these threads. I'm willing to bet that 90% of all head coaches check in, at least on occasion, to see what's being discussed. If that's the case wouldn't some administrators be curious once in awhile as well? Maybe I'm giving the GID too much credit, but I doubt it.

Muda...you went dark on me.  I not a reporting kind of guy and why put you on ignore?  You put out some good stuff.

I just find it surprising that you feel a need to sway others to your views.  Be confident my man in your own views, and resist feeling the need for validation through conversion of others.  As I said, even if you convert a person or 2, nothing will come from it on this site.  Not the tree to bark up....

Got to be honest...i did get a slight chuckle that you thinking if you complain long enough, you will change the minds of various high school administrators around the state from investing in turf fields....do you truly believe they would see you both as a desired and credible source in their decision-making process?

I think administrators can be swayed, but I agree, not on this topic. There are way too many benefits to all involved.

  4. "Unique," lol.

"The blind draw gives teams with poor records a chance to play somebody they could possibly beat in the first round. "

Didn't that ship leave the port when Team A spent more time weight training in the off-season than Team B? I know this for certain even though I'm over 100 miles away. Those Brownsburg seniors busted their tails for four years for their shot at the state title. This wonderful idea the IHSAA came up with (something 49 other states scratch their heads at), sent those kids packing after one game. Shame on the IHSAA.

Then you are welcome to pay my taxes for me.   How many more tax burdens are you willing to take on?

Your first sentence leads one way and your second sentence leads the other. You must be an independent.

Seriously. I do think there's a correlation between taxes and quality of life. Sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. But I'll never skimp when it comes to our high schools. Professional sports take take a hike.

Once again, I haven’t kept up. Are the right wingers for or against seeding?

I can't imagine it's a right or left thing. If I were to guess, I would say a higher percentage of left wingers would be in favor of the blind draw and a higher percentage of right wingers in favor of seeding. Still waiting for Komets to clarify that one. My first thought is that he messed his post up and meant to say left wingers. Stay tuned.

<insert deity here> forbid that teams would have to adapt to differing field conditions.

It's fun to watch as a fan, but the best team doesn't always win in that scenario. I'll take the turf.

As a taxpayer, I'm all for anything that improves the high school experience for young people. If that means the band gets to perform on a 1.5 million turf field instead of the mud, then I'm all in. The reason many people gripe about taxes is because it takes away from things like their  $150 North Face jacket when they could buy an off brand for $40 that's probably just as good in quality. God forbid if you can't afford to go out and enjoy dinner for two for $100. Go to Applebee's instead. Sure it's less trendy and you're not going to impress your peers while they are out at St. Elmo's, but at least you'll have more money in your pocket for things that are a bit more important.

No they wouldn't.  The Texas post-season system while not all-in, does nothing at all to "seed" teams outside of, in the past, putting the two largest of the four "winningest" teams in district in the Division I and the two smallest of the four "winningest" teams in district in the Division II.  They then square off with the next district numerically ... The top two largest teams of the top four "winningest" teams in District 1 square off against the top two  largest teams of the top four "winningest" teams in District 2.  If that produces #1 vs. #2 in the first game, called bi-district, then so be it.  Just the way it is.  You play who you play.  No lunacy, no whining, no nothing ... you just go out and play.

Certainly easier to justify when "not all-in."

Moving forward, let's replace Texas with Alabama.

Man, I despise politics with a passion, but the right wing, extremist, attitude of the IHSAA is very troubling and reeks of the good old boy network. How many out of touch old fools does it take to use just a tad bit of  common sense and seed a tournament?

PM me. Educate me on the IHSAA having a right wing extremist attitude.

I too was surprised that 79% of AD's voted against. I would have guessed closer to 50/50. But if we really dig deep, 79% of the programs probably know they're not making a run to state anyway. So maybe the blind draw is a better opportunity for those schools to advance as far as they can.

  10. IHSAA calls it "unique," which is laughable. There's a reason only one state does it this way, because it's really kind of stupid. If the Brownsburg/Ben Davis game didn't open eyes, than nothing will. What would Texas, California, Georgia, or Ohio say if they were told, "by the way, the two best teams in the state are going to meet in the first round." They'd declare lunacy. Would these same people who voted against seeding vote for a blind draw for the college football playoff? We all know the answer to that. Kudos to Bob Gaddis for his politically correct response.

The lack of energy and excitement from the players is what worries me.

They need to get their swagger back. "We are Penn. We have 5 state titles. And we have the best record in all of Indiana spanning four decades. Come one come all." If they can do it at Center Grove, they sure as hell can do it at Penn.

Well let's just say....I am no longer optimistic..

Penn was thinking oh we will get a Marcus Freeman type reaction....they got...clapping. Watch this video....it is cringe and bad.

Thanks for sharing. I didn't think it was as bad as you made it out to be. Maybe the kids weren't as surprised about the outcome as the Notre Dame kids were. My only advice to Penn fans would be: Give this guy a shot! I like the youth in him. Hiring from within the program tells me that there's still passion from within the program.

Ready to get this season started! 6A North: Crown Point, Penn, Snider, & Carroll. Let's see if  "True North" can make it three in a row. Note that I put Penn in there and not Homestead (although always a threat). I think most fans still consider Penn a perennial contender regardless of their outcome a year prior. That's says something about the program.

I’ve found the people that complain about such things don’t come from the good programs fan bases, they come from big school fans who are annoyed they routinely get knocked out of the tourney early while smaller schools get to make deeper runs. What they really often want is the chance to beat up some schools 1/4 of their size and make the third round of an all in tourney and thump their chests about coming in 124th in the state, rather than 17th in their class.

Why would anyone from Carmel, Ben Davis, Warren Central, or Center Grove complain? They win all the championships. Three of them happen to be the three largest schools in the state. I mean, the three largest schools owning most of the state championships isn't just coincidence.  I'd say that at least half the teams in 6A have a legitimate gripe. Is what it is.......6A has been and always will be an unlevel playing field.

    why?

there are some years where you can speculate some about a few of the larger class champions (mainly 4/5 being able to compete in a one off with the champion of 6a)

unless ur putting all classes together for a gigantic tournament to find out who the real champion is i don't see the point in making one team of high schoolers state champions and everyone else class champions based on where they grew up

I would also add that it would be a disservice to the 6A champion to label them as such. They'd get the reputation as the kid wrestling heavyweight beating down the kid wrestling at 135, then thumping his chest claiming he's the best. In it's current format, in most cases, a program can hold it's head high knowing they are the best among other schools with resources similar to their own. I could sit here all day and say "what if" Adams Central had 3000 kids. "What if" Merrillville had 3500 kids. In the meantime, let's just not diminish what the other schools accomplished in their weight class.

I have felt this is true for years

It's absolutely true. The problem is that you can't compare Center Grove to Adams Central. The chances of a program from 1A-3A being recognized as the best is somewhere around 500,000 to 1. They just don't have the resources in an unfair playing field, hence having classes. If a school wants recognition as being the best team in the state, the only way to do that is to voluntarily bump up to 6A. In the meantime, any claims coming from 4A and 5A is just pretend.
