I would add Penn for sure and Elkhart and Warsaw to that statement as well.

Absolutely! No disrespect to those programs, I was stating that Fort Wayne needs representation.

I fully expect Homestead to reach that level of play sooner than later. They owned the NHC. After being in the SAC for a few years, they achieved the top of the mountain a couple of times and are widely considered along with Snider and Dwenger as one of the top teams in the conference. After a few years of slugging it out with the likes of Carmel and Noblesville, I think the Spartans will achieve yet another level of play from their program.

I'm still undecided as to where Carroll sits as a program. I think we all know they have a passionate coach who is above average in his field of work. They're just not at Homestead's level in my opinion. Maybe another strong year from the Chargers will change that perception, but they have some pretty big holes to fill this year. Won't be easy.

When's the last time Luers was ranked that low in pre-season?

Take it within a grain of salt. They will be Top 5 in 2a no matter what their record turns out to be in the SAC.

If Dwenger could surge to the top of 5A, we could have the 6 class P/P hegemony opportunity that Muda has dreamed about for years now.

Don't rule it out. Jason Garrett is a very good coach at a very good program.

    Interesting to say the least.

Snider, generally, improves mightily as the season moves on.  Other teams, well, don't.  🙂

The 2020 North Side team was decimated with injuries throughout the remainder of the season from what I recall. Being a neighboring district, North Side and Snider were once fierce rivals. To this day, the Legends always come out swinging when they play the Panthers. And with the information that we are gathering about North Side during this off season, Week 1 could turn into a war with huge SAC title implications.

    I wouldn’t count out A&M.

I'm not sure why Moore would want to compete with Carr at Notre Dame, too big of a risk in my opinion. Why not go somewhere where your playing time is a little more cut and dry.

With the new season upon us, here are some questions going into the Ft Wayne area conferences title hunts.

#1.  Is this the year a new face enters the SAC race?  since the "new" SAC formed in 2015, the top of the conference has primarily consisted of the usual suspects in Snider, Dwenger, Homestead and Carroll.  Wayne (2018) and Concordia (2016) and Luers (2021) have made some noise in the past few years, does NorthSide add their name to the list as a conference contender in 2022?  Loads of talent and transfers....another subject....can the coaching put it all together?

#2. Transfer news has been hot this off-season with known names in new places.  Is this a trend or the new norm in the SAC?

#3. Is this the year a new face sits atop the NE8?  NE8 conference talk has always centered around Leo and East Noble but is this the year Norwell usurps BOTH teams to claim the title?  Loads of talent returns while the 2 normal powers lose loads of talent.....all the stars may be aligning down in Ossian.

#4. ALOT of Lineman talent has been developing in the 260 the last few years (Livingston, Moore, Allen, Tippman, Wigington, etc).  Who, along with Bolyn (Norwell) are big men to pay attention to this season?

#5. Does anyone pose a threat to the Blazers in the NECC?  Laban Davis is gone but ALOT returns for Coach Mason's Eastside team.  Can ANYONE give them a challenge before another inevitable date with Luers in the playoffs?

#6.  Is it time to rename the ACAC (Allen County Athletic Conference) to the Adams County Athletic Conference?  Adams Central and South Adams has had a stranglehold on the conference recently and looks to again this year.  Who will be the program to rise and break up this top 2 ruling party?  Is Heritage close to making that happen?

#7. More turf fields this year.  If I'm not mistaken, Dekalb, Huntington North and Angola will break in new turf fields this year.  Who else is on the horizon?

#8. New QB's on the scene.  Becker (Carroll), Williams (New Haven), Davis (Eastside), Clark (Luers) are gone.  ALOT of yds and TD's have graduated, who becomes the new signal callers to pay attention to?  Dickerson (BD to North) has to be one along with Haupert's (Snider) progression.

#9. Are run first/power running offenses becoming extinct?  ALOT of talk about Leo changing staffs and people looking forward to Leo throwing the ball this upcoming year.  When did throwing the ball become more important than grounding out physical wins?  Is exciting offense more important than winning to the fans/parents?

#10.  The AP Traction/OPS effect in the city.  Alot of opinions on this.  Two great training organizations that have gone head to head the last few years with OPS gaining ALOT of ground.  Has also spurred alot of controversy in Topic #2.  Kids recruiting each other to play together at different schools.  How far does this go??

    1.   It's really been the Snider, Dwenger, Homestead show since 2015. Carroll hasn't done anymore than Bishop Luers since joining the conference. That's not a jab at the Chargers, just the truth. All eyes are on North Side this year, but I've got to see it to believe it. Until then, the conference still belongs to the forementioned three teams.

    2.   If North Side can do it then so can we? Or do we commit to the kids who have been in the program from the beginning? I believe in the latter, even if it's at the expense of a few victories. Good question, just don't know the answer.

    3.   So you're going with Norwell?

    4.   It's very rare that the SAC doesn't have at least one linemen ranked among the states best. I think this is one of those years.

    5.   Eastside.........Luers worst nightmare. They've been a matchup problem for the Knights as of late.

    6.   Adams Central and South Adams own that conference. Plain and simple.

Wasn’t that the case when Warren was one of 6 MIC members to unanimously vote out Carmel and Center Grove???

Of course they’re shying away from competition.

I understand the overall picture. Suburban schools always have and always will dominate country club sports. It's an unfair fight. It's a complicated issue. But from a football standpoint? Warren could still schedule CG if they wanted to, but it's pretty clear they don't want to. So is it political or is it competition? The million dollar question.

You mention North Side has best player in state and one of the best WR's. Are they two in the same or do they have two studs? Yes, I also wonder what is going on off of State Street with other players heading there? Seems a bit odd, but if they have two of the states' best, good usually attracts good.

    One player, same guy.

  8. The SAC is turning into a yearly crapshoot. What used to be the Snider/Dwenger show has suddenly turned into the Snider/Dwenger/Homestead/Carroll show with a bit of Luers mixed in. And it looks like it might be another one of those years for the Knights. Then you have the new "magnet" school in North Side. Things could get interesting in the SAC, especially 5A sectionals.

    Alphabetically

Carroll: Have the Chargers finally turned the corner? This year will be a good test after losing a D1 caliber, three year starter at the quarterback position. Some of Dinan's teams have severely struggled since joining the SAC in 2015, but they've been no slouch over the past three years. They have the facilities, community support, and student population to become one of the better programs in Northern Indiana. Time will tell how this years team measures up.

Concordia: Tim Mannigel is back after a one year absence. His teams were known for giving the upper half of the SAC fits, especially Bishop Luers. He has a victory over Carroll to his credit and a couple of close battles with Homestead. His return only makes the SAC stronger. Look for an increase in production this year after a lackluster 2-8 season a year ago.

Dwenger: Poor Dwenger. Dwenger is down. Dwenger lost this guy and that guy. Dwenger didn't lose Jason Garrett. And Dwenger still has a program that continues to reload. Oh, and a D1 transfer from Northrop. Garrett's teams play great defense and are as tough as nails on the whole. And they proved that they are capable of post season success even on a "down" year (last season.) It would be foolish to write these Saints off.

Homestead: Homestead's success goes back all the way to the mid-90's. Sometimes they are NHC good, sometimes SAC good, and sometimes state-wide good. But they are always good. I expect that they will reload as usual and plug in a QB that will be among the best in NE Indiana. Count on the Spartans to compete for the SAC title, but don't expect too much when they meet up with Indy........they may still be a few years away from that level of play. But consider this, Homestead is 5-1 against Snider and Dwenger over the last three years. If they run the table on the Panthers and Saints this year, then they'll be the official kingpin of the SAC.

Luers:  It's my understanding that Luers returns many key elements to a team that should be defending their 2A title. Yes, they were upset in the post season last year........plain and simple. They could have beaten 1/4 of 6A teams last year and 1/2 of 5A. How good will they be this year? I'll leave that to some of the Luers insiders. But then again, most those guys have Lou Holtz Syndrome.

North Side: Is this Fort Wayne's new magnet school? They already feature the best player in Indiana and one of the best wide receivers in the country. Now we are hearing of transfers from Dwenger and Luers. This doesn't happen in Fort Wayne. Dwenger and Luers kids don't transfer to North Side. Sorry, they just don't. So how is Ben Johnson getting it done? If he's as good of a coach as he is a recruiter, then the SAC better be on high alert. Last season, Coach Johnson's first at North Side, was pretty rough with only 2 wins. But he only lost to Snider and Dwenger by a combined 5 points. The Legends could be dangerous.

Northrop: I've been saying "potential" for years now. I thought the Doerffler's would turn the Bruins into an SAC contender, but that never happened. Why is that? That's a question that may be a little too deep for me to answer. There is talent in the halls at Northrop, just as there is at every other FWCS. But what's it going to take to get them over the hump? Maybe a guy who's been in the Snider system for a couple of decades...........bring in Quenton Bowen. Imagine that....from black/gold to orange/brown. That's comparable to moving from Ohio State to Michigan. Good luck to him. A better Northrop means a better SAC.

Snider: The panthers seemingly pulled out of their slump last season and found themselves once again at the top of the SAC. The post season wasn't so kind to them. They squeaked by a 3 win Northrop team, then got waxed by Dwenger after beating them by two touchdowns a few weeks prior. I think the Panthers had their sights set on the likes of Zionsville and Cathedral..........hopefully they don't make that same mistake again this season. They should be in a pretty good position this season with the return of many key positions from last seasons SAC championship run. Look for much of the same this year with a possible deep playoff run.

South Side: I'm not sure where to begin here. Again, another school that is rich with talent in the hallway. Bring back Matt Land? Had he stuck around, South Side would have hoisted a couple of state title trophies. They've struggled ever since. Let's hope that Guy Lee is the one to bring this program back to respectability.

Wayne: Sherwood Haydock won when he was at Harding and he won when he was at Woodlan. He can win at Wayne too. Others have done it before him, and he will too. Look for the Generals to make a run in 4A regardless of their win/loss record in the SAC.

Heard DWenger lost a bunch of kids to transfer to caroll?? Anyone know if this is true? But fw can’t be underestimated but I think Mishawaka takes them out

Not sure about the kids transferring to Carroll. Dwenger's quarterback jumped ship to join forces with one of the country's best wide receivers at North Side. But in return, they got a stud D1 transfer from Northrop who plays on both sides of the ball.
