Probably unfair comment about Stanford.  While challenges the last 4-5 seasons, they went 102-32 from 2009-18 under Harbaugh and David Shaw.  They made appearances in the Orange, Fiesta, and Rose Bowls (3 times) along with Alamo and Sun Bowls repeatedly.  IU and Purdue could only dream of that journey.

They had a great run but are about to be relegated to the levels at which they were pre-Harbaugh. The new transfer phenomenon and NIL have killed that program.

If they don’t get OSU this year…

They're on the road so who knows. I still think the Big 3 all hold serve at home when all said and done pitting a 3 way tie at the top of the East division creating some post-Thanksgiving chaos. No clue how the tiebreakers would unfold in that scenario.

    Good call.  Had completely forgotten.

Indiana has a better record and an identical conference record as Illinois (with a 2-0 H2H advantage) since Allen took over but still, Indiana is bottom of the barrel P5. Illinois has made a Rose Bowl in my lifetime.

Folks also like to dump on Harbaugh’s bowl record which I guess is valid though I’ll debate that outside of the playoff, bowl games are largely irrelevant now.

Franklin’s bowl record on the other hand (particularly NY6 bowls) is also a misnomer as he matched up against MEMPHIS and caught an Utah team minus Cam Rising for most of the game in last year’s Rose Bowl.

    Guy is a phony.

Franklin did win 9 games twice at Vanderbilt. That's impressive. He's made some awful coaching decisions (QB read with McSorely on 4th and 6 against Ohio State) that get extra magnified, but he's been pretty solid there. They are extremely talented this year (and young) and they get a banged up Ohio State with inconsistent QB play at the right time. Wouldn't be shocked to see them spring the upset in Columbus Saturday gaining an inside track to the East championship.

I’m not even sure Indiana is deserving to be listed in this group of P5 teams…every other team on this list has had at least minimal success that was not during a Covid shortened season.

    I get your point though.

Indiana won 8 games the year prior to COVID

Just a note on the level of talent at Chatard. Two years ago their punter was recruited by Oklahoma (he is no longer there). Last year they had two kids go to Dayton. This year Dayton has offered one of their kids and their best athlete is awaiting an offer to a particular D1 school. As is normal, most of their kids who continue playing end up at DePauw or Wabash. They have a receiver from a few years ago who walked on at Perdue and plays but, other than that I think the Martin boys were the last Power 5 recruits that came out of the school.

Their success is based on numbers (which allows them to start very few kids both ways), coaching and being incrementally better than their opponent at enough positions to tilt the scales in the majority of their games. The whole is much better than the parts. That’s what is preached and that is how they play.

There are a lot of kids on the team that will never see meaningful Friday night snaps but being a part of the team is important in the school culture.

Interesting Note: Chatard’s QB from 2 years ago is at Alma and leads all college football (all levels) in passing efficiency. Caleb Williams is #2

Godlovske was a Rimington award finalist a few years back no? Miami OH and then ended at Oklahoma State.

I'm just wondering why he's still the tight ends coach after four years. Is he just waiting his turn in line? Certainly he has more to offer a program than coaching the tight ends. Maybe he's content with low stress, good pay? I'm not promoting him as the next coach at IU, I just think he's probably smarter than the guy he works for.

He's still likely getting a nice $200-300k salary a year coaching TE's. I really don't know what he does at IU. The guy before him recruited both Ian Thomas and Peyton Hendershot (both NFL) and after inheriting Hendershot for his senior year, the TE room has been awful under Wright's direction. 2/3 top TE's this year are walk-ons with one being a lacrosse player from Chicago who came to IU without ever playing a down of football in high school.

Can't compare the two. One was successful everywhere he went. The Tulsa catastrophe doesn't count. Whereas the other couldn't win with the most resources in the state.

Neither should be coaching a B10 program.

If they fire Allen just to promote Kevin Wright, well I'm done lol.

It's a better option than Allen. Can we agree that the chances of rebuilding the IU program with the tight ends coach is a better option than Tom Allen?

Both are high school coaches for a reason.

Agree completely.  I want to go back down the rabbit hole of “ad nauseam private school” talk selfishly because I want to see @Footballking16’s head explode.

“Cathedral not only has few ADVANTAGES, they have many DISADVANTAGES and superior coaching and culture is the reason for their long term success.”

You're forgetting vastly superior youth and feeder league support which I have always maintained is Cathedral's biggest strength.

Can't go down the rabbit hole with you if you're aren't even willing to put your head in it. Nice Try though!

They won't spend the $$, but they need a name coach to rip the program inside out and rebuild it....also to generate fan interest.

Maybe Michigan's DC Jesse Minter or Brian Hartline (OC) from OSU.  I also wonder if Washington State or Oregon State's HC's with some cash would be willing to bail and jump to a Power 5 team like Indiana??  It would take some serious cash, but they are running tremendous programs at their schools.

I'd be all-in on Hartline. Kane Wommack is quietly having a great start to his career at South Alabama after a good stint as Indiana's DC a few years back. You could convince me 64 year old Willie Fritz at Tulane as a 4-5 year band aid solution is a better option.

The difference in buy-out between the end of this season and the end of next season is $12million. And while that may seem like a lot, especially if they fire him after this year with his $20million buyout, it's paid over the course of his remaining contract shelf life (5 years). Indiana is about to see a major media revenue boost to start next season when these PAC12 teams are set to join. Current deal is around ~$60 million and figures estimate the new deal to be around ~$90mil a year.

Indiana can "afford" to fire Tom Allen after this year. The real question is, does Indiana actually want to invest in the program. I'm talking a brand new practice/indoor facility. A weight room that is exclusive to the football team (they share with other sports). And just an overall salary pool increase to not only attract, but keep quality assistants. You can fire Tom Allen and the next guy might be better, but nothing is going to last until the latter happens. And it may never happen.

  12. Chatard's win over Cincinnati Elder Friday. And not just any win, but a statement, blowout win 34-7. Elder at 5-3 has losses to Ohio D1 #1 St. Edward (1 point) and D1 #2 Pickerington North (4 points) before getting roughed up by Moeller last week. Still have wins over both St. Xavier's and a team solid team from Philly. No clue what kind of shape Elder was in last week but I also think Chatard was without their starting QB.

Impressive win by Chatard to end the regular season as they look to run the table for an undefeated season and state championship.

Both teams need some work in that area...although the pass D's were facing outstanding QB's and receivers.  CG needs focus on special teams.  A fumbled KO return along with 2 Cathedral recovered onside kicks lead to a bunch of Irish points due to extremely short fields. (17 pts I believe)  Heck, Cathedral would have recovered a 3rd onside kick had they not been offsides.  Those miscues by CG absolutely made it a much closer game that it should have been.  CG had a 3 TD lead with about 6 minutes left to go in the game and almost let the game get away.

They actually had a 3 TD with with under 2 min to play. CG picked up a first down with about 2:30 left and Cathedral didn’t call a TO basically conceding the game down 2 scores. CG for whatever reason didn’t kneel it out and scored on the next play with just under 2 minutes left and then all the fireworks happened.
