Kentland (or A. J. Kent) High School consolidated into South Newton in the 1960s.  They were the Blue Devils and played Lowell frequently.

    really?

HC's about to get a big reality check...

Lowell vs. West Lafayette is Week 3 per Harrell. Am I sensing some South Lake County anamosity towards the upstart Hanover Central?

  2. This class being QB heavy in the Top 5 worked out well for the Bears. I would hope they take Ault if he's still there at 9, but that's highly unlikely. Still, could be left choosing between Odunze or Verse.

Like to think not, but also would think Bears draft board also had CW right on top just like everyone has had for last 2 years.

Agreed. Everything I heard is the Bears were sold on him from a physical standpoint a long time ago. They've spent most of their time vetting who he is as a person.

    fair statement.....

Who knows as one angy Chicago radio caller just said, Caleb could be the Black Baker Mayfield. My fear on this miss doesn't come from Daniels or Maye. Between those 2, I would take Maye. Here's me being picky: I don't like how smiley Daniel's is when losing. And I think he's benefitted greatly from Brian Kelley's offense and the WR's he has. Maybe I'm wrong and he's like Burrow was and is playing at an NFL level himself with NFL WR's.

My fear is McCarthy becomes the best QB in this draft. He just strikes me as a Tom Brady guy that can lead a team of men, get excellence from his teammates and never be afraid of a challenge. I rewatched that Rose Bowl game during some down time over the weekend. That kid is loved by his teammates.

I am an older guy....I am thinking well before 1999 when he took over the helm.  Unless one believes Bob Avellini was an all pro....  😉  Jim McMahon was the last Bears QB I've been excited about, and I wouldn't have called him great.

Awesome you have your faith in Caleb Williams.  The way I saw him perform in big games this season, including crying to his parents in a big game that went bad for him, doesn't have me full of confidence.  But, I have been wrong plenty of times...may be pleasantly surprised.

I have faith in Poles and Warren. For any knock we can find in Williams we can also find issues with Daniels, Penix, Maye, etc. None of these guys are perfect. I can remember a time when people thought the Colts should take Leaf because Peyton could never beat Florida and lead Tennessee to a National Title.

Love your faith....I just tend to look at historical trends.....its been a while since the organization has knocked it out of the park with a QB.

Hey, I am a big Cubs fan....perhaps this is the year.

Before Warren, the President of the Bears was Ted Phillips. From a football standpoint, you and I had the same qualifications for the job as he did. 24 years and 6 playoff berths later the Bears realized that promoting the CFO who had no football knowledge and was a career Accountant to President of football operatiosn wasn't the wisest of decisions.

  7. The combo of Ryan Poles as GM and Kevin Warren as President of the Bears have drafted the same amount of QB's for the Bears as you and I have: ZERO.

Poles was promoted within the Kansas City Chief's organization everytime a new GM was brought in. Warren built the Vikings new stadium before running the Big Ten. I have faith in both of them that they are nothing like the old regime (aka. CPA Ted Phillips and whichever McCaskey son you want to name)

So did the Bears perform a detailed evaluation of any other college QB in the draft? What about Mr. Maye, Mr. Penix, Mr. Mccarthy, etc.?

Also I have heard reports that Mr. Williams is really barely 6 feet tall.

The Chicago radio station I listed to while working was joking yesterday about the amount of rumors surrounding him that continue to be untrue. Bad teammate, terrible attitute, helicopter dad that's too involved, etc. Here's a new one. He measured at barely under 6'1 at his Pro Day.

The Bears started vetting Williams as far back as when they were interviewing for the OC position. My guess is they know who they want and won't be wasting the time of guys they won't be drafting,

I wasn’t impressed with Getsy myself, but the question that needs to be raised is how much he was handicapped in his play calling by Fields’ shortcomings as a passer.

Great point. I'll be interested in seeing if the Oakland offense puts up better numbers next year than the Bears did in games Fields started. Getsy isn't exactly walking into a great QB situation. He has the miracle story walk on turned starter at Purdue or Gardner Minshew. Regardless of who wins that job, bot have proven they can sling the ball around the field. We'll see how they do with Getsy.

  10. 56 minutes ago, Bobref said:

Don’t tell that to @Coach Nowlin. He was the President of the “We Can’t Get Luke Getsy Out Of Town Fast Enough Club.”

And the Radiers seem to have a legit HC now in Pierce. I too was pleased to see Getsy go. Though the turnaround in which he landed another NFL OC position has me doubting what I thought of him.

The whole Fields discourse has really brought out the fact that most people watching do not actually know anything about football.

He ran the same offense for two years in a row and did not improve even slightly (in the QB-friendly Shanahan system, I might add). The OL discourse is mute because sacks are mostly a QB stat (something most people just can’t seem to wrap their head around), driven home even more so by the fact that Bagent had about half the sack rate in 5 games playing behind the exact same OL. Pretty telling that Nagy and Getsy also both got jobs immediately after they left. All advanced passing stats say that he was a bottom 5 QB in the NFL this year.

A lot of solid points in there. Getsy really caught my eye. We're not talkign about a demotion to QB Coach or down to College. He immediately landed an NFL OC position.

  12. I don't understand how Fields has turned into a martyr. 3 years of film exists. And for 3 years experts who view the all 22 will tell you he can't see open WR's, holds the ball too long and is incapable of throwing WR's open. Seems like all of this is swept under the rug because it's the Bears and they're an easy punching bag. Yes, he dealt with injuries in the OL that created inconsistency and he dealt with rotating coaches. You can't give him a free pass on skills you need from your QB just because the infrastructure surrounding the QB is going to get better. Especially when you have a solid QB class in front of you and a chance to restart the clock on the QB payscale.

This is just interesting as heck … from the Steelers’ side. How does anyone think Russel Wilson is going to feel about this? I foresee a world class pout from diva Russ. I also predict Fields will be the starter by Week 6, if not before.

Ryan Poles has now officially pushed all his chips to the center of the table.

The Steelers have made it clear that Wilson is the starter and there will not be a QB competition. I have to wonder if that was done to soothe Wilson's ego. I believe the compensation turns into a 4th Round pick if Fields plays 51% of the snaps next year.

Did someone forget about the offensive line? The first thing a rookie QB needs is a little extra time to process all the information.  I know they have recently signed several guys to 1 yr. deals. I never heard of any of them. Looks like they’re just shuffling the deck. I’m sure they’ll make up for it in the draft. Otherwise, these highly-touted receivers will be useless. And I like the Swift signing, but again, who is going to block for him?

I think Coleman Shelton is a pretty solid pickup. He'll fill the biggest weakness from last year (Center) and he played in Shane Waldron's system in LA. That should take some pressure off of Caleb to have a Center in there who completely understands the system from the minute he walks into Halas Hall. Pryor will just be a backup. Bates likely a backup at Center.

    Currently, we're looking looking at:

    LT: Braxton Jones

    LG: Tevin Jenkins

    C : Coleman Shelton

    RG: Nate Davis

    RT: Darnell Wriight

Davis actually had a decent year after he got through some emotional distractions. Jenkins has LG locked up. Wright is a future Pro Bowler. My guess is Jones will get replaced via the draft and they might look to replace Davis as well.

A lot here to respond to:

    5. Andrean, Mt Carmel and Marian Catholic have always poached and will continue to poach.

I could understand another South Side Catholic other than Mt. Carmel poaching Tri-Town if you told me Chicago St. Rita or Brother Rice or even Joliet Catholic. But, Marian Catholic, they poach Lake Central kids? That's surprising to me. They're not exactly a power in HS football. Though they are closer to Tri-Town than the aforementioned schools. At that point why not just go to Andrean?

I can’t figure out LC football program. Large enrollment, growing community, great facilities, good in all other boys and girls sports, well established youth football program and three large feeder middle schools. It would seem everything is in place to be really successful.

they have had some competent coaches come through over the years.

What is stopping them from winning at high level?

Great Question! Thought I do think some of the areas of St. John that are rapidally growing on the south end are in the Hanover Central district. Another question would be are they losing good talent to the following schools:

    1. Andrean
    2. Chicago Mt. Carmel

Nothing specific, but I am betting the high school hits 3000+ by either next year or 2026.

I think it'll happen. Town and Ditch are getting developed from 146th all the way up to 32. Spring Mill and Oak Ridge are pretty much "there" and any open land is getting developed.

North of 32, there are developments scattered around Ditch, Spring Mill, Grand Park, and up to Chatham Hills Golf Club. NE of the HS there's a lot of developments going in around 191st street over to the Noblesville border. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up capping out around 3,500 in the future.

  18. He could have stopped writing the article after penning "it turns out most NFL teams don't want to trade a day 2 pick for a flawed QB and extend him his fifth year option." Is he expecting Poles to just come out and say that nobody in the market for a QB1 was interested in him so we'll hold him until the market opens backup again?

Not really a surprise to the locals here. Coach Gilbert ran for Westfield mayor last year, but lost to current mayor Scott Willis in the May Republican primary. With Coach Miracle taking over, a long time Gilbert assistant, the program is in good hands.

Any chance you know where Westfield's future enrollment is projected? I'm seeing a lot of the rural areas in the western portion of their district (north and south of 32) rapidly being developed.

Swift I think is a interesting signing for Bears, reasonable price, but not stupid price, essentially a 2 year contract.

Love the Safety Byrad signing and especially the price also.

Now with all the QB movements that have occurred:  What is logically known?

    Vikings (just signed Sam Darnold)

    Pats (Just signed Jacoby Brisett)

    Commanders. (Still has Sam Howell)

    11th, 3rd, 2nd picks

    How bout this scenario:

    Vikings send:  Justin Jefferson, 11th overall, 4th/5th in 2024:  1st and 3rd in 2025: 2nd in 2026

    For

    1st overall Pick in 2024:  4th in 25:  3rd in 26.

    Extend JJ right away.

    Draft J.J. at 9

Draft best EDGE/BOARD PLAYER at 11.

Fields plays next 2 years with JJ and behind him.  Give Bears a chance to see if this Coach can unlock talent of Fields, if he does and he turns out to be that guy, then you have trade capitol of JJ

    LETS GO!!!

At this point there is zero interest Fields from anyone in need of a QB. I think that's pretty telling of who the Bears have at QB and putting him out there for 2 more years would be a disaster.

Hmm, who thinks this new stadium will actually be built, now that it appears the Arlington Heights plan is a bust?

And just say NO to a dome.

I don't. Building a stadium South of the current spot just to stay close to Lake Michigan and the skyline is a mistake. The location sucks. Very limiited parking and not easy to walk to from the South Loop and/or the train stations near the stadium because of Lake Shore Drive and the train lines. More importantly, publically funding in the City means they likely won't own the stadium again and the Chicago Parks Department will continue to own where the Bears play.

Feels to me that Warren is politicking and trying to get the 3 school districts in that area to drop their argument that the property is undervalued. My money is still on them building in Arlington Heights.
