Or ... perhaps the thought process goes something like this:

In order to return IU to the top tier of NCAA teams, you’ve got to recruit players who are potential NBA players. Woodson’s entire 25 yrs. of coaching experience is in the NBA. He knows how to prepare kids for the next level. That could be an attractive selling point to recruits. His past glory at IU will earn him the necessary grace period with the alums and boosters so that he can rebuild the program.

That’s one way to explain it.

I just read an article that said IU is also hiring Thad Matta.   He can help with the recruiting since Woodson has no experience with that part of being a college coach.   Matta's position will be an assistant athletic director and will be responsible for hiring Woodson's coaching staff and also with recruiting.   Should make for an interesting "duo" at IU in the near future.  Matta played college ball at Butler and he still lives in Indianapolis so he has some ties to Indiana.  Interesting.....

  2. Woodson?  Looks like IU is hoping to have the same success with Woodson as Michigan has had with Howard.  I don't see it, but I don't make the decisions at IU.  He'll  be gone in 3 years if they don't make the tournament in that time.  IU has been crap since Glass ran Bobby out of Bloomington.

Not many upsets in day 2. Day 1 though....3 lower seeds win in Baylor's bracket.

I had a perfect day going today on my ESPN bracket until Ohio U won.

Funny that 5 B1G teams get games at Mackey (none at IU though).....thought that would be an advantage since they all play there once a year, but that did not work out so well for Michigan State or Ohio State.

To this point, Jaden Ivey is the most dynamic player I have seen in this tournament; and he is just a freshman.

So far I have been impressed with Cameron Krutwig.   He's the big man for Loyola.  Illinois had no answer for this guy.  19 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals.

  4. For the second consecutive year, the Lady Miners of Linton take home a state championship.  Last year the final score was 70 - 28.  The 28 points was a tournament record in a state final as was the 43 point win in a state final.  This year (defensively) they were even better by the score of 63 - 25.   I said last year I was impressed with the Miners defense but this year I think it was even better.  They had 18 steals in the game tonight.  They only lost 1 game all year to 4A Bedford North Lawrence so they set a school record for wins and losses.  These past 2 years have been a great ride with these ladies.  I wish them the best in their futures and thank them for the  pleasure it's been to watch them play.  I think this is the best team defense I've ever seen at any level, men or women.  They were a machine.

Yep. It is still a “Hoosiers” experience for those small southern Indiana schools like Washington, Barr-Reeve and Linton-Stockton, although the Miners do it in football as well!

I hate to tell you this but Linton is a football town and has been for decades.  Barr Reeve doesn't have a football team.  There are 5 schools in Greene County where Linton is located.  Linton is the only one with a football team.

Looks Like Linton vs. Crown Point has been cancelled.

CP is playing Lake Station (8-2) on Jan. 9 while Linton is hosting 3A No.  1 Evansville Memorial.(11-0)...

CP vs 3A No. 3 Andrean (11-0) has been bumped to Jan. 23..

    So many schedule changes...

And Linton won against 3A #1 Memorial in overtime.

  7. When I made my comment, CP was #5.  It's a little bit different now that they are #1.  Still it's for bragging rights and not much more than that.  It will benefit Linton more if they win.  For a 2A team, they are very, very good.  It will be a good test but I don't see it any more than that.

  8. The game with Crown Point is actually meaningless.  Nothing more than bragging rights.  With this Lady Miner team it's deja vu.   It's a no brainer they are #1 since they are the defending champs and had no seniors on the team last year.  They'll sweep through 2A like a wildfire when the tournament starts and repeat.

  9. I'm watching The Badgers and the Wildcats.  Entertaining game   Rooting for the Wildcats  IU's game today was lost in the second quarter.  Penix with 495 yards passing and 5 Td's and 1 pick.   Unfortunately that pick 6 was the difference in the game in the end.  They aren't going to drop too far in the polls. They'll stay top 15 for sure.

Agree coach.  Robinson's speed will be missed. Kind of reminds me of Danny Gregorich's broken leg suffered in semi-state against Southwood a couple of years ago.

Then we had trouble containing Tyler Meuer from Linton-Stockton in the state final. He was a very shifty qb but we were gassed from chasing him around all game.

Meurer gassed a LOT of defenses in his career.  The kid was a human highlight reel waiting to happen every time he touched the ball.  I've seen him do some amazing things on a football field.  Thanks for the shoutout to one of Linton's greatest players, Tyler Meurer.

  11. Back in the day most of Ohio State's games were at noon.   Once in a while they would have one at 3:30.  But that was before cable.  I am a Buckeye fan, born and raised and will always be a Buckeye fan.  This game sucks because I also root for the Hoosiers these days.   While I think (like most years) the Buckeyes have too much firepower for IU to keep up with, I will not be shocked if the Hoosiers win this game.  They have played Ohio State close a few years now.  I seem to recall a game that was in the 50's for both teams not all that long ago.  The big difference I see this year is that IU has a defense and they play VERY well.   It's a shame about Tom Allen (the son).  Season ending surgery.

  12. I saw that IU is ranked #9 in the AP poll this morning, but still 10th in the coaches.  Not that it really matters but it will allow the media to advertise the game as 2 top ten teams playing each other.

  13. Another quality butt whoopin, I mean win for IU.  Next week is THE game in the Big Ten this season.  Wisconsin won't be a factor.  Northwestern?  They won't either.  It's Ohio State or IU this year,

I agree.  I truly believe that if we had our normal 3500+ fans in the Enlow grandstand last week that we would be the team playing Mooresville this week instead of Central.  But c'est la vie.   Aside from that, not having the weekly tailgates and seeing friends and family at games has been a true bummer this season.   Good luck to you guys tomorrow.

Take heart.   I hear that vaccines are on the way.   Next year things should be more normal.
