  1. A couple of more thoughts on the game:

I  like football players with emotion.  I thought Mahones was almost sleepwalking during the first half, but he got the juices flowing in the 2nd half and OT for sure.  Kelce the same, he played better when the game was really on the line.

I thought the 49er offensive line was terrific the whole game.  The Chiefs barely laid a hand on Purdy all game, and the ground game from McCaffrey was exceptional.  They just had some penalty and turnovers that cut their drives short.  Also the Chief defense came up with some timely plays.

My wife watched the entire game!  It was a first for her in a long time.  She used to attend games with me when we were younger, but not for many years now.  I had a relative call from Florida, that lives on a busy street, and he said the traffic was as light as he'd seen it in his 10 years of living down there.  I did have one female technician at the eye clinic that confessed she hadn't watched the game, but she was in the vast minority, or so it seemed.

I suffer with AMD and take the injections as well! I'll never forget the first "shot"! Whew, who know you could literally take a needle to the eye?? Quite an experience!

    Best wishes today!

Yeah, it ain't much fun but very necessary.  It takes me a day or so to get over the shot.  I actually received a stronger shot yesterday, but my reaction is not as bad as the last one.  Yesterday was my 4th one.

  3. It was an outstanding football game.  Much better than most Super Bowls.  The biggest play, as it turned out, was the blocked extra point that would have given the Niners a four point lead. The miss enable the Chiefs to just kick a tying field goal to tie the game.  Lots of long field goals and big plays in the 2nd half.  None bigger than the 4th down conversion by the Chiefs on the game winning drive.

I'm off to the eye clinic to get a shot for my AMD.  I have wet AMD in my right eye and have been getting shots for the last few months.  My eyesight is improving slowly.  Luckily I had cataract surgery at the end of 2022 and my left eye is clear enough for me to see quite well, except for some distortion.  Anyway, it's just part of being old.

  4. I heard you can bet on the color of Gatorade used to douse the winning coach.

The KC red zone fumble may be a killer.

The RFK Jr. blurb was totally out of place and shouldn't have been shown.

I hope the 2nd half is a bit more open.

Tranquil was originally committed to Purdue and was heavily involved in recruiting players to join him. But, he backed out of that committment when Notre Dame finally thought he was good enough for them.

He'll always be a Judas to me.

And he was good enough to play for Notre Dame!

  6. What does anyone think about the games instead of a game?  I understand that the players don't want to take a chance on injury, but this was a waste of time for me, and I didn't watch much of it.

OK, it’s not football. But the event was big enough to warrant mention here.

50 years ago today, the invincible UCLA Bruins basketball team came into South Bend, riding an NCAA record 88 game winning streak. Just 20 days after the Irish football team upset mighty Alabama in the Sugar Bowl to win the national championship, the basketball team took down the 7-time defending champs 71-70, scoring the last 11 pts. of the game. I was there in person at both games. I can still see The Iceman, Dwight Clay, rising on the right baseline for the game winner. When we got up the next morning (OK, it might have been afternoon), the Irish were national champs in football and ranked #1 in basketball. Those were the days …

Little known fact: before that game in 1974, the Bruins had not lost a game since the 1970-71 season … when Austin Carr and the Irish took down Sidney Wicks, Curtis Rowe, Henry Bibby, etc. I was at that one, too.

I remember that game like it was yesterday!😊

His helmet didn't come completely off, but went half way up his head.  (doesn't show in this video)  Looked impressive with his bloody lip.  I stand corrected as the play does not look late...but it was a clear blow to his head.  Given that Purdy was in the concussion protocol earlier this season, would hope there would be focus on this type of hit.  Can't tell from the video where the official was...perhaps none could see, especially the referee.

Not sure about the officiating....a few years back hung up the coaching whistle, but still stay involved with the running of youth leagues.  Definitely still involved with the game.  But you've given me something to think about for sure.

That's targeting if there ever was targeting.  I guess it's not that important enough to be called anymore.

Couple of Indiana HS kids playing, Chiefs DE George Karaloftis (west Lafayette HS) and Drue Tranquill (FW Carroll) so I’ll be rooting for those guys to make plays along with my squares to hit. Any other Indiana high school players I’m missing? (Think I spelled names correct and have their right high schools)

Purdue and Notre Dame players also.

You've got to admire a guy who is willing to accept a challenge like that. The $10+ million a year probably doesn’t hurt, either. Washington will always be a red-headed stepchild in the B1G. Now he’s at the marquee school in the marquee conference. Guy’s definitely got some big ones!

Just out of curiosity, I checked John Harrell....last season they ranked 24th in 6A and 33rd overall.  Not a whole lot of room to drop unfortunaltely.  As a Northern Indiana guy I feel Indiana HS football is better when Penn is relavent.

If I'm Penn, I'd try and schedule 3-4 of these teams each year

Snider, Carroll, Homestead, Crown Point, Carmel, Cathedral, Chicago power, Ohio power, Michigan power.

Penn has played Cathedral the last four seasons.  I don't know the schedule for next season so I don't know if the contract is up.

Oft-maligned Offensive Coordinator, Gerard Parker, is reportedly leaving to take the HFC job at Troy.

Maybe he left because Audric Estime is now in the portal. Nah, I realize all coaches dream to be the HC!

Because he is 18/19 playing against MEN who are 21 +.  it's a VERY LARGE JUMP from Cathedral to beating B10 Defensive Backs who many will be playing in NFL as a Freshman Wideout.

You have watched a 100+ if not more Cathedral games, think of it this way, You have all these skill kids at Cathedral and O'Neil, but their Offensive line is as good as like the 320th ranked 1a Offensive Line here in Indiana.   How good would that offense be then?   Now you see why Purdue struggled so much.  Literally could barely get WR down field and OPEN before CARD was running for his life.    You had 1 good OL, that was Hartwig, that was it imo.

    @PHJIrish

Horse feathers!  He was a man among boys at the high school level.  He was quite mature on and off the field.  As for my attendance at Cathedral football games, it's somewhere in the hundreds.  I saw my first one in 1955 And I've seen a lot of 'em since. I wish I would have kept a journal all these years, but I probably didn't expect to live this long.

just a few older guys ahead of him was my understanding, but with Sheffield bolting before Bucket game, it looks like he got some more run and had a nice day Saturday.

Some real tough moments in this transition year, Harrell had some real bright spots, then some real WTF spots......

A lot of young exciting players that Walters was able to hold onto from Brohm class, obviously potential Freshman All American in Thienman was an absolute STUD in Walters system.  TE Burhnam (sp) also showed a lot in bucket game with Tibbs.

    GOT TO FIND OFFENSIVE LINEMAN

    Big Big Off Season

If there were a lot of receivers ahead of him, why did the Boilers have such a bad season?  I watched Jaron play for three years and that young man can get open and catch the football, albeit at the high school level.  I wish him well, and it would be nice if Danny O'Neil signed with Purdue and hooked up with Jaron again.
